Hairdresser ruined my jumper

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:23

As the thread title really, had a full head of foils at the hairdressers and I’ve discovered that the back of my jumper has a rather large bleach stain at the neckline the following day when I’ve picked it up to put in the washing. What’s annoyed me more is at the end of the haircut, the hairdresser said ‘oh x has wet your jumper too!’ And stood blow drying the back for a minute or so. No mention of bleach damage.

It’s a brand new jumper that I bought last week, not particularly expensive just annoying, particularly when I know think when was aware of it at the time and didn’t comment. What should I do?

OP posts:
AveEldon · 05/02/2020 12:43

I've had this happen twice - both times they've not rinsed all the bleach out of my hair properly and the back of the top has been ruined

Still annoying even when you are wearing an old top

leckford · 05/02/2020 12:47

I always something older when I have my hair cut, not latest purchase!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 05/02/2020 12:49

I don’t deliberately go scruffy to the hairdressers but I don’t tend to wear jumpers... plain t shirts that I wouldn’t be gutted if they got ruined. No idea why, as nothing has ever happened to my clothes and I’d be surprised if it did!

I’d probably mention the bleaching to them; but if it was a new and expensive jumper, I wouldn’t necessarily expect them to cover the full cost. Perhaps they’ll give you your touch up appointment for free, or something.

TeaForTara · 05/02/2020 12:50

Do you like the hairdresser and do you want to keep going there? If I complained about something like this and asked for compensation, I'd feel that I couldn't go there again.

incognitomum · 05/02/2020 12:51

Even if you're not going back message and tell them. Am sure they'll have a Facebook page?

MrsStrangerThing · 05/02/2020 12:51

To all of the people that turn up at the salon looking like bag ladies, your hair stylists are judging you

I love how not wearing a brand new jumper turned into dressing like a 'bag lady'. And honestly, I really couldn't care less if a hairdresser wants to judge me for not wearing brand new clothes. I can't say I have ever saw one looking too glam in the salon either.

OP I don't think yabu for being annoyed, but personally I would let it go.

Mlou32 · 05/02/2020 12:56

I am also of the opinion not to wear good clothes to the hairdressers

MaggieFS · 05/02/2020 12:56

Happened to me once, so I now always wear that same stained top to the hairdresser. I mentioned this to my new hair dresser and she said their policy was to reimburse without quibble. It shouldn't happen but it does.

You should take it back to them and explain what's happened. Given them a chance to put it right.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/02/2020 12:59

I think I’m going to cancel my touch up appointment and find a new hairdressers No don't do that! Pick up the phone and tell them what happened. Trainees make mistakes, they can't learn from them if they don't know about them!

At the moment you are going to punish a presumably good hairdresser for something she didn't do, doesn't know about and has no opportunity to make right!

Tell them!

starfishmummy · 05/02/2020 13:01

Ive had similar happen. Years ago when I was younger - I was gowned and towelled and sitting at the mirror, drying was about to start and some sort of setting lotion was used on my hair. I felt it go down my back and when the garment was washed there was a big bleached out area. I didnt care about going back there as it was a stupid try out for being a bridesmaid so I rang and told them. But according to them the product used didnt contain bleach and it must have been me bleaching it during laundering!! But it certainly had bleached my clothes!! (I never used bleach for laundry purposes).

Who gives a fuck.

ukgift2016 · 05/02/2020 13:02

I have never heard of wearing old clothes to the hairdressers :/ I also never had my top bleached. T
It is a mistake on their part.

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 05/02/2020 13:05

Once at a beauty salon, after my treatment, I went to the loo there. Got home and found there were bleach stains on my trousers. It was a suit I wearing. I told them and the owner called me up. I told her I could give her a receipt for the suit (I keep these things) and she sent me a cheque for the full amount.
Their cleaner hadn't properly wiped the bathroom floor after having cleaned it with bleach

Rosebel · 05/02/2020 13:12

I doubt my hairdresser gives two shits what I wear but she's not young and hip so that's probably why.
If you generally like the salon I'd let it go but if not then I'd complain. I'd feel arkward if I complained but kept going there.

Sonichu · 05/02/2020 13:12

"Oh well, lesson learned. I think I’m going to cancel my touch up appointment and find a new hairdressers"

I hate to be the bearer of bad news OP but there's no guarantee that a different human might not accidentally drip something that is wet onto your clothes.

Minai · 05/02/2020 13:14

I’m really surprised at people saying don’t wear new clothes at a hair appointment. I’ve had my hair highlighted every 2 months for the last 15 years and I’ve never once had hair bleach on my clothes. It’s just not something that I would think might happen as they are so careful with putting a towel then a gown and another towel over.

2beautifulbabs · 05/02/2020 13:16

Sorry OP I would say lesson learnt most people having hair coloured tend to wear tops/clothes they don't mind getting damaged it can happen at times

I would just chalk it up and next time wear something older or keep that top for hair appointments only

BillieEilish · 05/02/2020 13:16

eggsandwich that's awful!

It is entirely different with a coat Shock you're not wearing that when your hair is coloured!

And the wedding thing is just rude of her.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 05/02/2020 13:17

It's never occurred to me to wear old clothes for hair colouring! I'd definitely go back and say something – I don't own any clothes I'd be happy getting ruined.

JoyTurner · 05/02/2020 13:19

Just ring up and politely explain what happened, they will most likely reimburse.
If you are happy usually with the service provided, why cut your nose off to spite your face and book elsewhere?!
It was hardly intentional.

katkit · 05/02/2020 13:20

I wouldn’t think to wear old clothes to a hair spot- the salon needs to tell customers to do so.

SynchroSwimmer · 05/02/2020 13:20

I would just find a matching coloured marker pen - and colour in the damaged bit 😉

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/02/2020 13:22

Take it in and show them and ask a replacement jumper. They should have been more careful. Next time wear something old.

NumbersStation · 05/02/2020 13:23

Judgey hairdressers?

I hate going at the best of times. I wish I could give no fucks but this has made me not want to go at all.

I am a fright but I go there to look more human/acceptable. Do they judge you for daring to be a munter with a shock of uncontrollable hair too? Sad

Chloemol · 05/02/2020 13:25

I would never wear a decent top to a hairdresser, especially if having foils. More fool you for wearing a decent jumper
