To ask how many clothing washes do you do a day?

Starting to think my family are manky 🙈
Have just put on my first wash in 6 days. As a family of 5, its built up (I've not been well enough)
But I've only got another load and some towels and sheets to do. So another 2 washes.

Speaking to a friend who does 3 a day Blush I'm wondering how she has the time?!

I should add that our washing machine is 9kg so fits more than usual and towels get reused if it's just been the kids that use them or they were only used for drying hair.

Am I really that unusual?

I sometimes do none and other days do 3 loads. Dh plays football and goes to the gym. I go to the gym 4 days. Ds plays football and rugby. No matter how many loads I do my baskets are never empty.

JonnyPocketRocket · 03/02/2020 12:50

2 adults and a baby here; we do 2-3 loads a week in an 8kg machine.
@ILoveTimeTravelling don't start that debate or we'll be here all week Grin

TreeClimbingCat · 03/02/2020 12:52

I think this comes down to the size of the clothing.

I have two teenage sons and they are in adult sized clothing. So 4 adults in the house effectively. Add into that Dh at 6'3" and that takes up a lot of room in an 8kg washing machine.

I do 2 loads a day Monday - Friday. I wash whites separately, bedding for the children is one load, as is their bathroom towels, bedding for me and Dh's superking bed is also one load, then our bathroom towels. Add tea towels and dish cloths as a load that get washed weekly, then normal clothes. We all have a worn it once drawer as the children both get changed into joggers once they are home.

So I don't think that it is excessive.

Sunnyjac · 03/02/2020 12:53

But she also showers daily, 2 towels.
Plus baths DC another 2 towels.
Her partner showers daily there's another 2 more.

6 towels changed every day and she’s ironing everything too?! She’s bonkers

doubleshotespresso · 03/02/2020 12:54

3 sometimes 4.
We are a family of 3....

CakeandCustard28 · 03/02/2020 12:54

About 2-3 loads a day. Family of four. I have no idea where it all comes from just appears.🤣

PonderTweek · 03/02/2020 12:55

Depends on how many days I'm working that week, as if I'm home I will happily wear the same jeans and hoodie for days. Grin But I generally do 2-3 washes a week. More like 2 unless we're doing the sheets. We're a family of 3.

ByeFeliciaa · 03/02/2020 12:55

She has even said, she HAS to iron pjs because what if there was some catastrophic event and her children had to go to hospital
The horror of un ironed pjs would be too much for her to cope with

We do 5, 6 or 7 loads a week for a family of 4 including 2 adult sized teenagers. Your friend is nuts and environmentally reckless.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 03/02/2020 12:56

Two of us and I do a load a day. Sometimes I do think that wasn't really worth it but if I leave it gets too much.

2019bride · 03/02/2020 12:58

Family of 3 and we only do 3 loads each week! 1 load mid week for clothing and then at the weekend 1 load for bedding and towels the other for clothing. We have a large 9kg washing machine but we make sure the machine is full before we put it on. The only time we might do an extra load is either in the summer or if we have a bunch of white clothes to wash.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 03/02/2020 12:59

I do a dark load every week, a whites load every two weeks. And the bedding when it annoys me — which it is doing at the minute as I've dribbled some hot chocolate onto it Blush

HopeYouStepOnALego · 03/02/2020 13:00

Family of four here, with two adult DDs (21 and 18) who can get through half a wardrobe a day if they really try Grin. I usually do two loads a day (one dark, one light) and occasional extra ones throughout the week when I'm washing towels or changing beds.

MapMyMum · 03/02/2020 13:02

We do about 2 washes per week for clothes. One for towels and one for bed sheets. We all have our own towels, they get hung up between showers to dry fully and we're not dirty or smelly, but there is no need to wash towels for every single wash.

If you're dirty enough after a shower to need to clean the towel then you're not showering very well, are you?

Selfsettling3 · 03/02/2020 13:02

2 adults, 3 yr old and a weaning baby. 3 year old likes messy play. Normal a load a day sometimes more. Towels and bedding (1 x king, 2 x double) washed once a week.

Sexnotgender · 03/02/2020 13:03

I do one clothing wash per day, alternating lights and darks. I try and hang it all to dry and if I leave it longer I have too much for my horse.
Less of an issue in summer.
Also probably do one other wash per day, either nappies, towels or bedding depending what needs done.
There are 4 of us, 2 adults a teenager and a baby.

greenlavender · 03/02/2020 13:04

Two adults, do it at the weekend. Usually about 7 washes, including one or two mini ones for delicates.

Sherloidbaisherloid · 03/02/2020 13:04

I do a couple of loads on my day off mid week then a couple at the weekend. Don’t have a need to do washings every day!

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 03/02/2020 13:05

So in theory I need to do about 10 loads a week.
No wonder I'm always behind.

5 x clothes washes (Inc. 2 lots of uniform)
1 or 2 bedding
2 x sports washes
1 x towels

Sunnyjac · 03/02/2020 13:05

She has even said, she HAS to iron pjs
because what if there was some
catastrophic event and her children had to
go to hospital
The horror of un ironed pjs would be too
much for her to cope with

Go on, you’re making this up Grin

PeacefulInTheDeep · 03/02/2020 13:06

Two adults and one toddler in cloth nappies here and I do about 5-6 loads a week. The nappies actually make things easier as I can chuck a handful of kids clothes or adult underwear in with the nappies and keep on top of things. So besides the nappy wash every other day there's a load of adult clothes and then either towels or bedding each week (changed fortnightly on alternating weeks).

I used to have to do a white wash every few weeks for about half a dozen items but can now put whites in with nappies which again makes things easier.

elQuintoConyo · 03/02/2020 13:07

5 loads a week. 2 adults, one child.

onemouseplace · 03/02/2020 13:07

Family of 5 here and I do probably 10 loads over a week.

I actually do less in summer as I can get a whole load dry at once, whereas in the winter when I'm drying inside (no tumble drier) I need to do 1.5 loads on a few days as that is what will fit on my airers otherwise we start to get a backlog.

Sheets and towels washed once a week.

goodwinter · 03/02/2020 13:08

2 adult household, generally 2 washes a week - one clothes, one towels/bedding.

DecemberSnow · 03/02/2020 13:09

I do about 6 a week....
