To ask how many clothing washes do you do a day?

Starting to think my family are manky 🙈
Have just put on my first wash in 6 days. As a family of 5, its built up (I've not been well enough)
But I've only got another load and some towels and sheets to do. So another 2 washes.

Speaking to a friend who does 3 a day Blush I'm wondering how she has the time?!

I should add that our washing machine is 9kg so fits more than usual and towels get reused if it's just been the kids that use them or they were only used for drying hair.

Am I really that unusual?

How do people get towels and bedding into one wash?

Even with a 8kg washing machine my sheets take up the whole thing. 3 bath towels a week is another wash, and often one for hand towels/tea towels. Confused

Serendipity79 · 03/02/2020 13:11

I do around 12 loads a week. Me, adult daughter and 3 younger kids.

floatygoat · 03/02/2020 13:11

2 adults, 2 dc, one baby. On average at least once a day.

notanotherjigsawpiece · 03/02/2020 13:11

5-6 loads a week - 2 adults and a teen. We change bedding every fortnight and probably should wash towels more often, but I find it a nightmare getting stuff dry.

TheJoxter · 03/02/2020 13:12

Usually one every other day, don’t have space to dry any more than that in winter when we can’t use our outdoor line!

Thesearmsofmine · 03/02/2020 13:12

Family of 5 and I tend to do one a day with a couple of extra at the weekend with bedding/towels. One ds plays rugby and gets filthy and DH gets mucky at work.

Yika · 03/02/2020 13:12

Why on earth does she wash the towels after each use? That is so wasteful. We use our towels for a week.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 03/02/2020 13:13

We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 pre-teens) and we do 4 -5 washes per week. 1-2 dark, 1 light, 1 towels, 1 bedding.

Cath2907 · 03/02/2020 13:15

It’s just me, a 9 year old and a small dog.

Per week:
1 lights, 2 darks, 1 people towels, 1 bath mats, 1 tea towels and tablecloths, 1 dog towels, 2 bedding, 2 chair covers.

I also do coats, cushion covers, spare bedding etc. When needed.

DragonMamma · 03/02/2020 13:16

I do anywhere between 10-12 a week so it’s on most days although the weekend bears the brunt of it

DH’s workwear
Kids uniform (1 white, 1 dark)
My work wear (1 lights, 1 dark, sometimes 2)
Miscellaneous clothes - usually stuff worn after work or at the weekend
PE kit is a full wash as DHs football kit is rank Hmm
A load for tea towels
Towels and bath mats

Then bedding on top for the weeks I do it - that’s 2 loads. Changed every other week in the winter and weekly in summer.

And don’t get me started on washing cushion covers and throws from the sofa....

MiniMum97 · 03/02/2020 13:18

There's only two if us but I do at least a load a day. I do separate out lots of things and my DH goes through a lot of sportswear. I am often behind in washing. It doesn't seem any different now my DS no longer lives wit us.

I do the following loads:
Knitwear separated into similar colours
Darks
Lights
Brights
Mixed colour/whites
Whites
White towels (want to get rid of these when we get a new bathroom and replace all the manky towels)
Coloured towels
Bedsheets
Tea towels and cleaning cloths
Then there the things like waterproofs, sleeping bags etc etc

I definitely split our into too many washes!

stophuggingme · 03/02/2020 13:18

At least two 9kg loads a day during the week and probably three a day over the weekend
Me and three young children plus a dog that is a mucky so and so
I wash a dark load and a light load every day
Towels every other day and strip all four beds on the weekend as well as the dog bed
Once a month wash all my Cushion covers and throws too if not more due to smeary little hands

Seashellsandbuttons · 03/02/2020 13:19

I used to do it at the weekend. Just 3 loads a week (family of 3).

But our GP advised us to wash school uniform daily which can help keep norovirus (and similar) away. My DC is immunocompromised so I have been washing school uniform every evening and doing no washing at all on the weekends.

5 smaller loads instead of 3 big loads seems to be working well. But once it's sunny I'll be going back to 3 big loads at the weekend Smile

Who knew that laundry was so complicated and varied Grin

Justgorgeous · 03/02/2020 13:22

I do a wash every day. 4 adults in the house and 1 child + 6 rugby matches/training per week.

Eeeeek2 · 03/02/2020 13:24

1xsuperking bedding (try to do weekly but more like 10 days)
1xsingle + cot bedding (try to do weekly but more like 10 days)
1xtowels (4 bath towels + 2 hand towels) + 2 more hand towels that get chucked in with dark wash
2/3x nappy (every 3 days)
2 dark loads
1 light load
So a load a day but only whilst we still have nappy washes

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 03/02/2020 13:26

I usually do 2 loads of clothes washing a week and then towels and sheets.

VanGoghsDog · 03/02/2020 13:27

Doing laundry doesn't take up much time as such, the machine part is the time and you don't have to deal with it while it's on.

I do three or four loads a week (just me): towels (yes, I use them for a whole week before washing them), bedding which is one load every other week and two loads every other week (one week I change the bottom sheet and pillow cases, the other week I change it all. I have two sheets. But as it's a king size bed the duvet cover takes up the whole washing machine when I do it), plus flannels go in with whatever. And one load of clothes normally. If I've been away I might have two loads of clothes to do.

All my wash cycles have an eco or a quick mode, so I always choose the quick mode. Clothes go on the thirty minutes wash and bedding and towels get an hour. I have no idea how people get it all fine when they choose cycles that take over two and a half hours.
I always double spin to help stuff dry more quickly. Towels and bedding get tumble dried so as not to be hanging around the house for days on end. Plus I have one favourite duvet set so I need to wash it and put it back on the same day.

IslandTulip · 03/02/2020 13:30

7 kg washer. About 7 loads a week

TeaAndCake321 · 03/02/2020 13:30

1 a day of clothes then bedding, towels, throws etc on top, averages about 2 a day, but I do bedding, towels and throws etc at the weekend so it's going all weekend usually. It's not a very big drum though compared to the newer machines. There's 2 adults and 2 children 2 and 4.

theneverendinglaundry · 03/02/2020 13:32

Family of 5 here. Machine is an ancient one that only takes 5kg.

I separate into dark, coloured and white...so every time I empty the laundry basket I have 3 loads. I'd say the laundry basket needs emptying 3 times a week. So that's 9 loads a week on clothes.

I change bedlinen once a week, that's 2 loads.

I do 2-3 loads a week on towels, flannels and cleaning cloths.

Shmithecat2 · 03/02/2020 13:34

Me, DH and DS. Usually 1 or 2 a day, during the week. DH and DS wear clean clothes every day. I might make mine stretch two days. Towels go on to wash and dry overnight Saturday. Bedding goes on Sunday morning.

Welshwabbit · 03/02/2020 13:36

Family of 4, about 5 per week on average. Usually two coloured clothes loads, a towels wash, and then one or two of whites, delicates or bedding. Do towels once a week and bedding every fortnight.

Lolly35 · 03/02/2020 13:36

As a Family of 5 and a dog, I do minimum one wash a day (gym kit & uniforms) then at least 3/4 at the weekends for bedding and towels etc.

Lana1234 · 03/02/2020 13:37

One a day usually, sometimes skip a day. 2 adults, a toddler and 2 cats. DP is a chef so his manky whites always need washing. Toddler has just started nursery so he is permanently filthy now too. I have a bit of a pile at the moment too cos of being sick 🤒

Gammeldragz · 03/02/2020 13:38

Family of 5. Wash most at weekends (3-5 loads depends on if I'm doing bedding) and one wash midweek.
