To ask how many clothing washes do you do a day?

Starting to think my family are manky 🙈
Have just put on my first wash in 6 days. As a family of 5, its built up (I've not been well enough)
But I've only got another load and some towels and sheets to do. So another 2 washes.

Speaking to a friend who does 3 a day Blush I'm wondering how she has the time?!

I should add that our washing machine is 9kg so fits more than usual and towels get reused if it's just been the kids that use them or they were only used for drying hair.

Am I really that unusual?

2 adults, 1 older teen, 1 cat, 1 dog.

Beds are stripped weekly, so that’s 2 loads.

Towels are changed a couple of times during the week so that’s another load.

Then there’s generally a mixed colours and a darks wash for DH and I, so 2 loads.

Plus DD’s washing too, another load or so.

Plus tea towels and cleaning cloths. Another load.

Dog bedding and sofa blankets are done every week too, unless we have an even that means they need doing sooner. So another load.

So 8 in total for the week.

I do 2 a day, sometimes 3. Family of 4. Don't know how anyone manages with less?!?!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 03/02/2020 14:54

2adults 2 kids and 2 cats. 1 academy football player and other DC plays grassroots ⚽️

Washing at weekends only except for ⚽️ kits which washes in 30 mins and dries overnight in airing cupboard.

But we'll use towels a few times before replacing unlike some on here who will wash after breathing in the direction of a towel Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/02/2020 14:55

2 adults, 1 dc in adult / teen sized clothes, 2 dogs. Around 6 washes a week in a 9kg drum. To give you the amount we wash, dd wears her school jumper and skirt 2 days and a fresh blouse daily. Bath towels changed approx every 4 days, hand towels every 2, sheets every other week.

DeathByPuppy · 03/02/2020 14:55

An event that means they need doing sooner

CountFosco · 03/02/2020 14:55

Once a day (but sometimes miss a day) Darks every second day, a day for sheets, a day for towels, a day for all the other whites. Woollens every few weeks when has built up enough. More sheets if we have visitors.

Family of 5 with children who have been known to wear a pair of jeans for 3 hours and then put them in to wash (they get put back in their bedroom if I catch them). And lets not talk about DS's trail of socks around the house, I'm considering renaming him Hansel.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 03/02/2020 14:55

See we change bed sheets when we remember.......Blush

DeathByPuppy · 03/02/2020 14:58

Oh yes, forgot woollens/delicates. 9 for me then. That’s probably once a fortnight though, so make it 8.5 Wink

BumbleBeeFlower · 03/02/2020 15:00

We do all our washing on a Friday unless we need something cleaned specially during the week. We tend to do about 3 loads and that includes all clothes, bedding and towels for 2 adults. I'm sure it will increase once the baby joins us as we are planning to use cloth nappies.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/02/2020 15:02

But it's all about how many clothes, towels, bedding, etc that you have and the size of your washer.

I live in the US and have an extra-large capacity washer. When the DC were young I'd say I did 5 large loads a week. Clothes, towels, bedding. I had enough towels and clothing to last us a week. So 3 loads clothing, a load of towels, and bedding. Once the boys got older there was an additional load for PE clothes and sports kit.

Hagbeth · 03/02/2020 15:02

I usually do two loads a day. (Family of five).

KittenVsBox · 03/02/2020 15:03

Standard machine. Over a week:
1 load of towels
2 loads of bedding - our king size sheets full the machine. Kids beds make another load.
1 white load (school shirts)
1 coloured load
2 dark loads

So it averages as a load a say, but if its dry and windy, I will get a couple of loads through as I can dry it. Otherwise it's a load a day sk I can fit it on the airers.

2 adults, 2 kids (2 cats).

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 03/02/2020 15:20

Mostly just me and DS aged 10 at home these days. He's not a sweaty one yet (ie PE kit festers at school for 1/2 a term), I don't need to be smart for work. He plays football which can be muddy, and I do a lot of sport as well. No allergies, so we share towels and use more than once.

So, I sometimes struggle to get a load together if something "needs" washing (e.g. footie kit).
Large drum.

It's a different story when DS aged 20 is home!

MrsFezziwig · 03/02/2020 15:23

I dunno why people let it build up.

I have to let it build up otherwise the drum would be almost empty and my washer hates that!

Please, folk with households of only one or two people and no mucky toddlers, enlighten me as to how exactly you need to do a wash every day - I probably do the equivalent of one wash a week (though I tend to let it build up for reasons of efficiency as above). No-one has ever commented on my mingingness.

MadameJosephine · 03/02/2020 15:25

Usually 3 loads at the weekend. There’s only me and 7yo DD though.

JorisBonson · 03/02/2020 15:27

2 adults, 3 cats, 4 washes a week - darks, whites, colours, towels and bedding.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/02/2020 15:27

Two adults. We do one load per week and then one extra every second week. I'm wondering how we get away with this .... I've no idea about the washing machine's capacity but I do everything in together on an eco 30 degree wash.

MirandaWest · 03/02/2020 15:28

About 4 loads a week probably - two adults and two teenagers. Towels don't get washed each time they are used and some clothes are worn a few times. More likely to do several loads in one day then spread it out throughout the week.

Harleyisme · 03/02/2020 15:29

2 adults 3 dcs. One dc has contince issues both soiling and wetting. We have to do at least 2 loads a day but thats becuse of the contince issues.

CIT80 · 03/02/2020 15:29

Minimum 2 a day sometimes as much as 5 (family of 5 )

honeyloops · 03/02/2020 15:30

2-3 week, but there's only two of us. Sometimes just one wash of clothes, and the other is towels and bedding. Sometimes two washes of clothes if I'm running out of gym clothes.

3teens · 03/02/2020 15:30

7 of us, 11kg drum. At least 2 a day.

Yesterdayforgotten · 03/02/2020 15:31

I do 2 -3 loads a day on average 5 days a week but I have small toddler dc who go through alot of clothes as constantly getting grubby!

Deadringer · 03/02/2020 15:31

Family of 6, about 4 loads per week.

DeathByPuppy · 03/02/2020 15:31

MrsFezziwig, people have explained. They have broken down the type of washes they do.

For eg, I have to do my bedding washes per bed as they fill the machine. I have a larger capacity drum but I also have protectors on everything which also get washed weekly, adding to the load. Bigger bed sizes + protectors = full drum.
