Not so much an AIBU, posting here for traffic! I’ve got to the age of 36 due to various medical conditions, I’ve never been to an actual music concert. I went to watch my daughter at the Manchester arena the other night ( young voices) it was brilliant! I looked up a few people playing, and was quite surprised at the price of tickets. Out of interest who did you watch, where and how much were your tickets? Thank you ;)

Most expensive was Pink, think they were about £80 each. Don’t mind though, as it had been a while since we saw her last.
Agree with a previous poster with regards to smaller album launch shows-took my daughter to see Twin Atlantic at King Tuts (Glasgow) last week- £17 a head and that included the CD.

Elbels · 03/02/2020 14:09

100ish probably?

I used to spend most of my money on tickets and travel associated with that. My partner is in the industry though so since meeting him my costs have gone way down as I get freebies.

IamPickleRick The joy of being single and no one to justify it to. It was 12 years ago now but feels like yesterday. I left Glasgow about lunchtime one day, 3 hour stop in Dubai and was in Perth at 6pm the next day. Booked into the airport hotel and crashed till lunchtime next day then left overnight bag in locker at the airport and taxi into city to the Subioco Stadium for the gig. Few drinks afterwards with a group I fell in with while leaving the stadium then taxi back out to the airport in the early hours for 7am flight back to Dubai/Glasgow. The crowd were amazing. AC/DC fans are the best anywhere in the world but out there t was a different level and I felt like I'd found my tribe at last. Never fitted in anywhere else before or since.
Still bouncing about it now reminiscing whilst I type. Good Times.

Tens of thousands over the years, I’m sure. I love live music and have seen so many great artists.

The priciest single event was £2000 for the Led Zeppelin one off reunion concert about ten years ago at the O2. There was a worldwide ballot for tickets and 20 million people applied!

Not proud, but I bought my ticket from an online ‘agency’!

I knew as soon as it was announced that I had to be there. They were phenomenal and it is easily in the top ten of my life experiences.

The atmosphere all day at the O2 was amazing, it was a truly global event and we met people from all over the world who were living a life long dream.

I’d pay it again in a heartbeat!

lollybee1 · 03/02/2020 18:47

Normally around £40 a ticket but £80ish for bigger bands. I never buy from resale sites and think very negatively about people that do.

ALongHardWinter · 03/02/2020 19:09

When I was 18,I went to see Thin Lizzy in 1981,at Hammersmith Odeon. The ticket cost me £4.50. 😂😂😂 In today's money, that would be about £18,so still a bargain!

Iamclearlyamug · 03/02/2020 19:34

I've recently paid 234 for 2 dua lipa tickets at the o2 in May. Excellent seats close to the front

Standrewsschool · 03/02/2020 19:38

Around £50, or cheaper for local bands. I refuse to pay more (can’t afford it).

ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia · 03/02/2020 19:49

@PersonalClown seeee you at MK 😆😆😆😆

brieandcrackers · 03/02/2020 19:50

Just paid £169 for a Queen & Adam Lambert ticket - painful now but will be completely worth it come the night of the show! It's the booking fee that hurts the most - £20 for the convenience of 6 site crashes during the processConfused

I used to refuse to pay anything more than £50 but sadly even the furthest seats at most arena shows tend to be £70+ these days.

ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia · 03/02/2020 19:52

In the past fortnight I have spent £220 on tickets to see My Chemical Romance (3 different shows) and I’m not even ashamed 😂

Paisleycountry1985 · 03/02/2020 20:08

£190 for 2 Guns n Roses tickets. You never know when it will be the last ever tour. Missed out on Freddie and Bowie and Prince! Will always find a way to get Gn'R tickets.
I had tickets for Nirvana but gig never happened😪

OldHarrysGameboy · 03/02/2020 20:17

There appears to be a misconception about classical music concerts which I am keen to correct. Operas including at covent garden only run for a limited time before the company moves on to another work.

And in the case of world class orchestras or soloists, they'll maybe play a handful of performances in Europe in any given year, sometimes not even that. So it absolutely is a unique event to watch, say, Lang Lang in London, because he'll be there twice in the summer and then not at all for 18 months and he won't be playing the same concerto there again for maybe another ten years. You go on that one night or you don't get to hear it at all, possibly ever.

And these concerts, where you have incredibly gifted musicians at the top of their game, are absolutely emotionally powerful. Ok so we might not sing along but the hushed couple of seconds followed by an almighty roar of people transported by music then back on earth standing, stamping, shouting, clapping, wiping tears from their eyes is an incredible thing to be part of.

Quail15 · 03/02/2020 20:30

Anything between £150 and £250 per ticket is normal for me. Have seen Queen with Adam Lambert ( will be going again in June), Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi ( have seen them so many times at various venues over the past 10 years), Isle of Wight festival (not camping) etc ...will always try and get hold circle tickets.

Brefugee · 03/02/2020 21:01

agree with OldHarrysGameboy that classical concerts and Opera can be incredible in the same way as seeing Bowie. Or Elton John do Love Lies Bleeding (I can die happy)

But I'm another who won't use touts or resale sites. It was galling trying to get Ed Sheeran tickets (for the DCs) and the site dropping all the time but knowing Viagogo and Stubhub had them already. (Reader - I got them in the end and got one for myself too, and it was a huge faff in the end due to reasons but he's also well worth it)

LemsipLemsipLemsip · 03/02/2020 21:27

£180ish per ticket to see Fleetwood Mac with my DD last year. Until then the most expensive individual ticket was about £90. We attend a mixture of venues from pubs to stadiums so the prices can really vary.

TheGhostOfYou · 03/02/2020 21:32

I've paid £172 for two standing tickets to see My Chemical Romance at Milton Keynes in June.

Floralnomad · 03/02/2020 21:34

I’ve been to a couple of operas , at the last one the old man next to me was snoring before the end of the first act - I’ve never had anybody fall asleep next to me at a rock / pop / folk concert .

augustusglupe · 03/02/2020 21:38

I’ve seen a lot of concerts over the past 40 years. Average spend for a face value ticket now would be about £90.
The most I have ever paid was £1000 for 3 Metallica tickets about 4 years ago and £600 ish for 2 tickets to see Prince at the 02 in 2007.
Worth every penny.
I don’t pay over the odds for anyone anymore though. Prince was my favourite act ever.
Metallica were fantastic at the MEN, saw then twice, better than in the open air.

RedRiverShore · 03/02/2020 21:49

Up to about £200 but now I am oldish I like to be seated and fairly near the front, also have more disposable income now for stuff like this, most expensive was the Rolling Stones at £200, average is £80-£150 a ticket. I go to quite a few concerts and have spent over £1000 this year for DH and I.

ItsAlwaysSunnyInPhiladelphia · 04/02/2020 14:20

@TheGhostOfYou hello fellow Killjoy, congrats on landing a ticket :D

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/02/2020 15:46

Vaguely adding up, for 6 gigs/shows, I've paid roughly £400 for this year.
That's from Feb until June.
No doubt will add more for later in the year.
I don't think anyone I'm desperate for is touring later in the year though so they'll be cheapies.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/02/2020 15:52

I've used Viaggogo twice, I won't lie.
No, I don't agree with it, but I wanted the tickets.
I use Twickets now.
I've have also touted a ticket which I bizarrely ended up with free after using Viaggogo, the girl I sold it to was so happy that I can't say I regret it.
It's easy to say you won't use it, but that or waiting another 2 years for the next tour, or longer/never, depending on who it is...

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/02/2020 16:02

I've never seen classical music or opera, my local cinema at the end of my street show live performances on the big screen and I keep meaning to go to see if I enjoy, but haven't yet.
I'm seeing Les Mis in Glasgow in June though and looking forward to that, it'll be my third time, but not seen it for 20 years.

MadamFlutterby · 04/02/2020 16:08

I recently saw Slipknot with my son, arlt the 02 - we had deck seats which included food and Beveridge. Expensive at £110 quid each, but this was the only way I would consider watching them I'm and old gimmerSmile
