Not so much an AIBU, posting here for traffic! I’ve got to the age of 36 due to various medical conditions, I’ve never been to an actual music concert. I went to watch my daughter at the Manchester arena the other night ( young voices) it was brilliant! I looked up a few people playing, and was quite surprised at the price of tickets. Out of interest who did you watch, where and how much were your tickets? Thank you ;)

I go to loads of gigs but most of them smaller ones. I think the most I’ve ever paid was probably £85 each for Paul McCartney in 2015. Unless I’m absolutely desperate to see someone I won’t pay loads.I’ve paid £100+ for festival tickets but you get to see loads of bands for that.

OwlBeThere · 03/02/2020 08:45

Agree with @Sweettruelies, being front row listening to red hot chilli peppers sing under the bridge with thousands of people singing along knowing every word was truly spine tingling for me. They tour maybe every 5 years if you’re lucky.
I also love theatre but it’s not the same thing.

PooWillyBumBum · 03/02/2020 08:48

Same as @CoolCarrie the most I’ve spent was to see Kate Bush - VIP seats. My husband got them as a surprise and it was all he could get. Completely worth it and so special.

Otherwise I rarely see live music unless it’s local (so usually very cheap!)

grisen · 03/02/2020 08:49

Reading these feeling guilty because I have never spent more than about £25 for a ticket. Even if I really like the band.

cheninblanc · 03/02/2020 09:01

MovingBriskyOn - new kids on the block 💕🤭

OwlBeThere · 03/02/2020 09:28

@grisen no reason to feel guilty! We all prioritise different things in life, I don’t spend money on myself in any other way than gigs really. I don’t drink or smoke or buy expensive clothes etc It’s my one vice!

Floralnomad · 03/02/2020 09:32

Everyone has their ‘rules’ , I would never buy resale at higher than face value but then I’ve seen everybody I want to see that is still alive / touring so I’d never be that desperate for a ticket . Totally agree that theatre and opera is a totally different experience and atmosphere .

isseywith4vampirecats · 03/02/2020 09:35

on average around £75 - £90 each for bands like lynnard skynard, alice cooper, iron maiden, this year going to see joe Bonnamassa and whitesnake and both of these were in this price range, I refuse to pay £200 for crappy seats some bands are very overpriced for a night out

milliefiori · 03/02/2020 10:00

@ShatnersWig - agree that opera is brilliant value. It's cheaper to go to ENO than it is to go to our local Everyman cinema as a family (cinema £15pp, ENO £12pp for seats in the gods) so we go to opera. We often go to West End theatre previews too for about £25 a seat.

And at gigs, I prefer to stand anyway - the atmosphere is better, so that's usually around £35-40.

RhitaGawr · 03/02/2020 10:20

Just over £100 to see Stereophonics in June, that's for two tickets

Franticbutterfly · 03/02/2020 10:25

£900 when I was passed. We very much enjoyed the gig though. 😩😩😩

Franticbutterfly · 03/02/2020 10:25

Meant pissed

Ponoka7 · 03/02/2020 11:20

My ex got me into going to gigs. We were a bit bored with just going for a drink/something to eat, so started doing concerts instead. I went to see people I wasn't really into before seeing them live, such as Enrique (persuaded by my DD's) and Brian Adams. It's a completely different experience live.

I was star struck at Lionel Richie and put off Noel Gallagher, who I now regard as a arrogant prick. I've been to see Mark Knopfler (dire straits) a few times, he's well worth the ticket price.

I pay up to £90 a ticket, but usually grab a cheaper seat at around £45. It would have to be something extra special for me to pay more. I like the theatre so do both, but I cut down on other things to manage it.

Brefugee · 03/02/2020 11:27

just forked over €200 (including camping) for an early bird ticket to the Rock am Ring. I'm saving €50 because now the tickets are €200 and the camping €50.

But in general the most expensive have been things like €70 each for John Mellencamp in Berlin because there were train tickets and hotels. Or the €80 for Billy Joel in Hamburg for the same reason.

I have seen hundreds of bands and keep a spreadsheet. I wish I'd added ticket prices now so i can see if it's really true that i could have bought a Porsche if i hadn't done that...

CilantroChili · 03/02/2020 12:05

The most expensive tickets I have ever bought were to see the late, great George Michael on what was to be his last tour. Fully seated event.
He traveled with a full orchestra and the tickets cost an absolute bomb.
There were people from all over the world who’d come to Dublin for it.
My sis and I were stuck beside a bunch of women maybe 6 or 7 of themwho talked loudly when they didn’t like/know the song and shrieked at the stage during the quieter bits of some songs.
I was fucking livid, as were two guys who’d flown infrom Canada for the gig.
I asked them politely to be a little quieter and got dogs abuse for my troubles, as did others.

They almost ruined a very special event but these days, I’m just glad I got to hear him once. He was amazing ❤️

CilantroChili · 03/02/2020 12:06

(I didn’t go to a concert again for almost a year tho, I was so pissed off at the time)

DinaCaliente · 03/02/2020 12:08

I hate huge venues like Wembley and the O2 but I love festivals and do the IOW most years so have seen loads of bands there, also smaller festivals and Hyde Park.

IOW tickets are around £180.00 for the weekend.
Lionel Richie, Snow Patrol, Lewis Capaldi and Duran Duran are some of the acts on this year.

I've seen Britney Spears and Kylie for £15.00 each in recent years as they both played at Pride.

My cheapest I suppose was Catfish and the Bottlemen for £8.00

JeezyPeeps · 03/02/2020 12:11

Most recently, £7.50 plus booking fees to see KT Tunstall.

Most expensive, not sure, probably about £30.

Brefugee · 03/02/2020 12:44

I asked them politely to be a little quieter and got dogs abuse for my troubles, as did others.

Same happened to us at Billy Joel. Except the young pups who were talking got the same complaint from everyone around them, fucked off in the interval and thankfully didn't come back. Hanging is too good for twats like that.

TanteRose · 03/02/2020 12:47

Usually pay the equivalent of about £50 - 70.
Seeing Marc Almond in a couple of weeks, then A-ha, and Stormzy in March - Stormzy is still not so well known here so he's playing a small-ish club (capacity less than a 1000)

Most that I've paid for actual tickets was £100 for Duran Duran supported by Nile Rodgers

But most I've paid to get to see someone was Kate Bush - £60 for the ticket but then about £600 to fly to the UK to attend the gig! Totally worth it!

Festivals are of course more expensive for a three day ticket but I've seen some amazing acts - Björk, The Chemical Bros, The Cure, Tears for Fears, New Order, Billie Eilish (a coupe of years ago when she was about 15!) included

lastqueenofscotland · 03/02/2020 12:50

I go to loads of gigs (about once a week or more) but usually to see punk bands, who by default tend to play tiny venues and it’s rarely £20 usually a lot less.

HaudMaDug · 03/02/2020 12:53

I went all out just after splitting from my Fiance and blew £1200 including flights and 1 night hotel to see AC/DC in Perth, Australia. Amazing trip and the gig was crazy with Aussie fans. Best weekend ever and worth every penny.
About £18 I think for Eagles of Death Metal at O2 Academy Newcastle was an absolute bargain.

Jasmin82 · 03/02/2020 13:19

I think the most I paid for a concert ticket was about 129 euros in 2010 for a Jean Michel Jarre concert the following year. Normally, I wouldn't have paid that much, but it was a front row seat. At the time, the concert hadn't even been officially confirmed!

77wasmyyear · 03/02/2020 13:20

Most expensive was £300 to see the Rolling Stones- worth every penny

IamPickleRick · 03/02/2020 13:25

HaudMaDug you went to Australia for the WEEKEND?! Bloody hell!

I met some random Aussies at a Goldfrapp gig and they were such fun!!! Such a good night!
