Not so much an AIBU, posting here for traffic! I’ve got to the age of 36 due to various medical conditions, I’ve never been to an actual music concert. I went to watch my daughter at the Manchester arena the other night ( young voices) it was brilliant! I looked up a few people playing, and was quite surprised at the price of tickets. Out of interest who did you watch, where and how much were your tickets? Thank you ;)

Anywhere from free to £70 I think? Don’t think I’ve ever paid more than that, unless you count festivals!
Most gigs I go to are around £30 - £50. Some are £5 - £25.
I went to a live DJ night on friday, I think it was £22 each.
Otherwise, Foreign Beggars which I think was around £30 ish.
I’ve been to a few festivals in between which varied in price too (£70 - £140). Good value though.

Youcunnyfunt · 02/02/2020 23:58

Even Nitin Sawhney was something like £70 at the Royal Albert Hall, amazing experience.

😲 some of the prices you lot pay are incredible!

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/02/2020 00:06

The one I paid the most for, (Harry Styles), was one of the best nights I've ever had.

If people only want to spend £3 to go to a tiny venue that only holds 10 people, fine, but don't be sneery about large venues and mainstream acts.

Purpletigers · 03/02/2020 00:18

I wouldn’t pay more than about £50 to see a concert . Only ever been to two, as I don’t want to watch a singer on a screen from a distance . Most expensive ticket to a show is £65 for Riverdance .

Devilsadv0caat · 03/02/2020 00:21

£80 for Bon Jovi at O2 a few years ago (2010 maybe?).

I would never pay VIP prices. But most of the gigs we go to now don’t offer those packages as the bands respect their fans. People who do this see fans as $$$ and that’s it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/02/2020 00:25

DD saw Bon Jovi for free that year, friends took her and they got free tickets through a navy connection.

1Morewineplease · 03/02/2020 00:25

£330 for two tickets to see Ennio Morricone at the O2 about four years ago.
They were for my husband and son as they are enormous film addicts.

CrowleysBentley · 03/02/2020 00:29

I have been to hundreds of gigs over the years, lots of £10-15 metal bands at small venues with sticky floors, and bigger arenas and stadium bands for £50-70. The most expensive single ticket was Prince 21 nights in London, at the O2 in 2007. With champagne reception, canapés, early entry, seats right by the stage. They were an eye watering £230ish each. Worth it though.

I'm not including festivals there, I have paid more for those with arena tickets and camping. Concerts are rare for me these days, physically I'm not really up to it, my son now goes to most of the gigs I'd like to get to.

Purpletigers · 03/02/2020 00:31

My goodness but people waste a lot of money . £1500 to see a random singer is fecking nuts !

Gillian1980 · 03/02/2020 00:33

Most expensive I’ve paid have been around £150 I think.

Paid lots around the £70-£90 mark.... big names such as The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Rammstein.

Don’t go much these days due to finances, time and childcare. But if it was a band I love I’d pay a lot to have the experience.

OldHarrysGameboy · 03/02/2020 00:34

I didn't pay it but got given tickets to middle front row circle at the Opera House a few years back after a friend's rich parents bought them then couldn't go. They would have been £200 each but it was of course excellent. I quite often get freebies as friends know I like music and pass things on but that was exceptional even for me. Weird to think that it costs similar to see Britney Spears but I guess if you like something you like it and will spend on it.

ApocalypseMeow · 03/02/2020 00:35

Just bought 4 times £90 tickets to see MCR with my two daughters. Then husband bought four tickets to see MCR for around €45 each, only trouble is we need to pay for travel and accommodation as the gig is in Italy Shock oh well, should be a great trip!

user764329056 · 03/02/2020 00:41

Lucky enough to see George Michael at no cost as know someone in the biz
Back in the day went to gigs regularly, this thread has made me want to do more this year

OldHarrysGameboy · 03/02/2020 01:05

The most I've paid myself is £70 per ticket. That was for Tom Waits, kind of a cocktail evening, all little tables sort of vibe. It's a lot of money but I really like him, so ...

Mostly though £35 is my limit. I've seen plenty of world class orchestras for less than that. People think that classical music is expensive and yes it can be (eg those opera House seats) but often you can see eg the Berlin Philharmonic for a quarter of the price you'd pay for Take That. Although tbf the Berlin Philharmonic aren't sex symbols and don't do pelvic dancing etc.

AuntieMarys · 03/02/2020 07:02

I'd spend up to £250 a ticket. I would have spent thousands to see Bowie tour again but sadly that was not to be.
We go to 2 or 3 gigs a month.

bringonyourwreckingball · 03/02/2020 07:17

£500 for 4 of us, Springsteen, worth every penny.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/02/2020 07:19

I loved the good old days of £20-25 a ticket. In recent years it's been more like £45 - £75, I suppose.

The most I've spent is just over £100 for a 4th row seat in Berlin for Biffy Clyro Unplugged. It was well worth it!

LizziesTwin · 03/02/2020 07:27

£85 for U2 at Wembley when they did the 360 tour. Really disappointing, we were behind the stage and although it was supposed to be 360 it wasn’t. I paid £7 to see them at the old Wembley in the mid 80s.

TheCoolerQueen · 03/02/2020 07:38

Most I've paid (other than festivals) is £130 each for Roger Waters. We love going to gigs, do so regularly, and most of them have been worth every penny.
No one decent ever tours locally to us so as well as the ticket price we also have to pay travel and accommodation which bumps the price up.

OwlBeThere · 03/02/2020 07:48

Varies from £10 a tiny venue to £250 for back stage passes to see the red hot chilli peppers in an arena. Worth every penny to me, I’ll never forget that night.

ShatnersWig · 03/02/2020 07:55

I’ve got to the age of 36 due to various medical conditions, I’ve never been to an actual music concert

I've got to the age of being almost 46 and never been to a concert. I've never liked one artist or group sufficiently and have to say it shocks me what some people will pay for tickets.

On the flip side, I do like theatre and some tickets now can be well over £100 but I've never paid more than £40 in the West End and yet to have had a bad seat. I've paid less than that - OK rear stalls but everything perfectly visible and for some pretty big names. People say opera is expensive but you can go and see Welsh National in Cardiff and get seats for around £23 in the balcony (great view) and best seats for around £50 and for that you get a huge chorus and an orchestra of over 50 players.

Sceptre86 · 03/02/2020 07:59

Mostly up to £100 but I got resale tickets for my mum to see bon Jovi and paid out £400 for a ticket. It was extortionate. I took her the next time they came to Manchester and managed to get tickets from the actual sale for £80.

EggysMom · 03/02/2020 08:03

DH and I have a bucket list of people/bands to see before they cark it, and we'll spend up to £100/ticket for those on the list. Late 2018 we saw ELO; and this year we have tickets for Aerosmith (£85).

FrankRattlesnake · 03/02/2020 08:11

Spent around £100 ish per ticket in early Ely 00’s to see Cream at the RAH - amazing.

Most expensive was the Foo’s but that was travel to USA, the tickets themselves weren’t that expensive.

Cheapest (is my memory serves) was around £7.50 in the 90’s to see Sultans of PIng FC - supported by Radiohead. I’d pay double (or more!) that to see SoP now but not even half that for Radiohead!

Sweettruelies · 03/02/2020 08:19

The bigger the venue the pricier the ticket, but I find some of the stadiums impersonal and poor sound quality. They are built for sport, not music. However the bigger arenas like the 02 or Wembley can be great with the right artist.

The Pp who hadn’t been to a gig but compared it to theatre or the opera - frankly it’s not the same. Some artists will only tour every five years or more. I have been to many west end shows and the theatre can not compare to a gig. Thousands of people singing to the heavens and losing it to their favourite band is an experience everyone should have! Yes they cost too much money but people are prepared to pay it, I know I am
