Not so much an AIBU, posting here for traffic! I’ve got to the age of 36 due to various medical conditions, I’ve never been to an actual music concert. I went to watch my daughter at the Manchester arena the other night ( young voices) it was brilliant! I looked up a few people playing, and was quite surprised at the price of tickets. Out of interest who did you watch, where and how much were your tickets? Thank you ;)

I've paid thousands over the years for concert tickets. Most, not including festival tickets, was 75 each for acdc

Floralnomad · 02/02/2020 20:36

Personally I don’t think VIP is worth it , and I also wouldn’t pay for a meet and greet , we only had VIP for Cher because dsis wanted to be near the front .

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 02/02/2020 20:40

I'm not a concert goer at all, haven't been for more than 20 years but have paid over £300 for 2 tickets to see Queen and Adam Lambert this June.

I have been a lifelong Queen fan and it is a dream come true to be able to see them live.

trilbydoll · 02/02/2020 20:41

I'm seeing Barenaked Ladies at the Albert Hall in April and the tickets were about £60 which I think is my limit really. DH paid more for Muse at the Olympic Stadium but they were originally going to go abroad so it was still cheaper than that!

I went to see McFly in Brighton years ago for about £20 and they were brilliant Grin

Happy0 · 02/02/2020 20:41

Most expensive so far was Pink in London last summer; standing was £110 each and the cheapest ticket. I only paid that much because my friends all wanted to go so was a nice thing to look forward to. Was super dubious it wouldn't be value for money and it wasn't full value more like £65

StrumpersPlunkett · 02/02/2020 20:43

just been somewhere with tickets costing £250+ each
only tickets left, ViP meet and greet with food and drinks included.
definitely worth it, we will never forget such an incredible evening

Floralnomad · 02/02/2020 20:43

We saw Queen at Wembley in 1986 , I think that was the last concert that dh has attended !

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/02/2020 20:45

I paid £150 for Shawn Mendes but that's all they had left, it was on the floor very near the front, no regrets because he was amazing.
I generally choose the cheap seats, only get expensive ones if it's all they've got left.

sanityisamyth · 02/02/2020 20:48

Saw Pink last year but didn't buy the tickets. We were sat in the Gods at Wembley. It was amazing.

This year I've just paid for tickets for Kaiser Chiefs and Jessie J. They were both about £40-50 each. Could be worse!!

I've seen KC before last year and they were great. My DS6 wants to see them and they're in the town where I live this year (and he's only a fiver to get in).

SurferRona · 02/02/2020 20:52

Also Kate Bush 5 ish years ago, £125 x 2 for me and DH. Frankly, if I never see a live act ever again I will die happy as nothing will ever top Kate Smile

Prisonbreak · 02/02/2020 20:54

I go to loads of music events. Tickets range from £18 to £300.

stophuggingme · 02/02/2020 20:54

Barbra Streisand
Three tickets totalling £600
We got there and she hadn’t sold all the VIP seats as they were outrageous
We were moved to the fourth row from the front (which would have been ££££££ for nothing. I thought she was fantastic and it has always been a dream of mine. To see her live but the couple next to us paid something like £1500!fir their two seats which is beyond acceptable for anyone to me

Jiggles101 · 02/02/2020 20:58

My 13 year old and I are going to see Lana Del Rey (for me) and Billie Eilish (for her), costing £75 each so not cheap!

Paid about the same for Tom Petty at Hyde park a couple of years ago and thank god I did as he died soon after.

Have also seen fleetwood mac and Madonna which also weren't cheap.

For big names it's an expensive game!

crowsfeet57 · 02/02/2020 21:08

About £80 each night to see Queen and Adam Lambert for 6 of the 10 nights they are at the O2 this June. Plus hotels...

queenrollo · 02/02/2020 21:08

I generally have a £40 limit for one band shows, because factoring in travel and accomodation soon boosts the whole cost.
We have maybe two or three artists that we would pay silly money to see. I would have paid loads for a chance to see Bowie for example....

Have been going to gigs for years (and been part of the live music scene as a 'hanger on' too) and a lot of bands I used to love are touring again and playing small venues for about £15 -£20 a ticket. We're loving this!

MadisonAvenue · 02/02/2020 21:34

The most I've paid is £175 for a ticket to see Madonna on her Confessions Tour at Wembley Arena (think it was in 2007?) but it was front row at the end of the catwalk where she spent a lot of time.

I used to go to loads of gigs but I've cut back a lot as it's getting too expensive, prices seem to have rocketed over the last few years. Last I saw was Liam Gallagher in November and that was around £45 for a standing ticket which was pretty cheap, next up is Green Day in June and although there's also Fall Out Boy and Weezer on the bill (neither of whom I'm bothered about seeing) that's cost around £85 for standing.

I've done VIP on a couple of occasions and at one show there were only 8 of us, 3 were picked out for a meet and greet and it was quite deflating for the 5 of us who were left in the room. Another time, our front row tickets gave an obscured view as they were right at the end of the row and as an alternative we were offered the only available seats which were near the back.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/02/2020 21:40

1986 Quuen supported by Status Quo at Newcastle (cannot recall £ , it was a coach/ticket/hotel package)

£90 to see Justin Bieber in Hyde Park (do I win? )

I was forced by DD and her mate , they needed a Responsible Adult .

BackforGood · 02/02/2020 21:44

I've been to all sorts over the years - from huge gigs at the NEC, and football stadia to local pubs.
Open mic nights are usually free and you can hear some great musicians.
When I go to see anyone I always go in time to hear the support act- you will often see someone who is 'big' in the coming years.
Even though I am a bit more comfortable financially now than I've ever been, I can't bring myself to pay 3 figures for a single ticket though.
I looked up a couple of gigs happening later this year that I'd like to see, but they were just ridiculous prices for one single night out.

Meggie2008 · 02/02/2020 21:50

I spent £250 on Friday there on tickets and I hate myself 😂 £175 for two guns n roses tickets and £75 for two black stone cherry ones.

Floralnomad · 02/02/2020 21:53

I agree about seeing the support acts , we first saw Will Varley when he was the support act for The Proclaimers and we now go and see him in his own shows , same for Jack Lukeman ( also the proclaimers) .

LisBethSalander07 · 02/02/2020 21:57

We've happily spent around £100 per ticket on Coldplay, we saw them 3 times on their Head full of dreams tour - and it was worth every penny. They are amazing showmen and their concerts such a brilliant experience. Using the LED wristbands and clever lighting always means you feel part of the show.

Worst ever buy was £250 each to see Elton John. It was some bizarre orchestral tour, he didn't play one single song that we knew, and the atmosphere was so flat and awful. He chucked a hissy at one point because people weren't responding to any of it. I felt like shouting out we wanted our money back, it was so bad. We left after an hour, and found a good pub on the way home. We both sat shell shocked that we'd driven over 100 miles to watch such shite and paid £500. Robbing old bastard.

amazedmummy · 02/02/2020 21:59

The most I paid for a single ticket was £100 for muse. It's checked off the list now and I won't go again. I resented the cost considering most of it was probably to have the most convoluted stage set up I've ever seen. I paid £75 for a ticket to see My Chemical Romance in June which isn't too bad but add in the 1000 mile round trip and accommodation it'll be quite pricey.

midnightmisssuki · 02/02/2020 22:02

£200 plus each for U2. Same for George Michael.

milliefiori · 02/02/2020 22:03

Most I ever spent was nearly £300 for four tickets to Paul Simon so the whole family could go. I don't regret it. He is my musical god and I so wanted DC to see him live. he was amazing.

As I get older I feel more inclined to spend £££ on gigs. I'd rather have an experience than stuff. Most of my favourite artists are from USA. If they can be bothered to cart all their stuff and all their crew over to UK so I can see them play live at Brixton, I'll give them £50+ without a fuss.

milliefiori · 02/02/2020 22:07

£85 for standing @MadisonAvenue? That's extortionate.

I saw my favourite ever band at Portsmouth once and they put a call out at the end for someone to come back stage with weed as they didn't know how to score it here themselves. Only time in my life I've ever wished I smoked weed. I'd love to have had the excuse to go back stage and meet them, though they were probably inundated.
