Not so much an AIBU, posting here for traffic! I’ve got to the age of 36 due to various medical conditions, I’ve never been to an actual music concert. I went to watch my daughter at the Manchester arena the other night ( young voices) it was brilliant! I looked up a few people playing, and was quite surprised at the price of tickets. Out of interest who did you watch, where and how much were your tickets? Thank you ;)

Meggie2008 - we also bought bsc tickets! Seen them four times now I can't wait to blame it on the boom boom 😂. Met them last summer at ramblin man I think they are a really great band

Welshmaenad · 02/02/2020 22:08

@MrsJBaptiste I won tickets to see Lionel a few years ago and took my Kate dad, as he taught me to love his music - he is SUCH a Showman! I'm taking the kids to see him at Cardiff Castle this summer and I'm so excited. They love him too!

OP do you claim any kind of disability benefit? My daughter and I are both disabled and receive the care element of PIP/DLA. Most ticket companies have a setup where you receive a free carer ticket with each disabled person buying a ticket - this when I took the kids to see Pink last summer it only cost us £200 odd for four of us (my sister came to help) rather than £400+. It's worth looking into what local venues offer. We also have Hynt cards as we are in wales which entitles is to a free carer ticket at all welsh theatres which often includes music concerts. Saw Hozier in Sept for a bargain!

gabsdot45 · 02/02/2020 22:08

Last year I spent 240 euro to see Hugh Jackman. Second row seat, totally worth it.

cousinboneless · 02/02/2020 22:09

Just over £100 for Rammstein per show. Well worth it. Saw them twice last year and have tickets for three shows this year. Worth every penny. Depends with other artists, no one put on a show quite like Rammstein.

TheLastQueenOfPop · 02/02/2020 22:10

I go to a lot of gigs, we go from pay as you feel (usually Chuck a tenner in the bucket) and my max is around £150 - although I paid about that for Elton John and was bored rigid.
I've done vip occasionally but I don't find it worth it mostly. With some shows, if you hold your nerve you can get vip seats super cheap on the day of the show - I've been front row at wwe shows more times than I can count doing this.

Robstersgirl · 02/02/2020 22:12

Go to festivals! Might seem like a lot but you’ll see so many bands and you’ll discover new acts. I’ve seen hundreds of bands and famous singers live and have a very eclectic music taste. I have Glasto tickets for this year but a surprise baby has put heed to it this year. You’re never too old!

NameChangeNugget · 02/02/2020 22:13

I’ve been going to concerts for over 40 years and think any gig or concert is 99% of the time, well worth the money.

A lot depends on who you are seeing and where. My Twin Atlantic tickets for Camden in March were only £24. I would never pay more than £250 for a ticket though and that would only be for a Pink Floyd or Smiths reunion neither of which will happen

MilkybarAndCookies · 02/02/2020 22:20

Best one was Lady Gaga meet & Greet and onstage seating and bar £760 (was so good I did it twice 😂)

The closest to that was a vip soundcheck tickets for a Little Mix gig at £200 each for me and my daughter. It was lovely

I paid £16 to see and meet Lewis Capaldi last year and get photos taken, two cassettes and a poster he signed . Madness 😂

realunicorn · 02/02/2020 22:20

Gigs have started to get expensive for us now ( thanks 10 year old DD!)

In the last year we've done muse ( figured it would be a quieter crowd and a good starting point), slipknot and a few smaller gigs. She's asked to do knotfest in MK but I haven't checked age limits yet. Metal and rock appear to be her favourite.

Most expensive was DH buying tickets for the Metallica concert in New Zealand ( we are in the UK) no idea how much the ticket was - I was busy pushing the baby out as he ordered them but the flights cost close to a thousand pound.

The tour got cancelled.

DH did have a lovely time in NZ though 😂

MilkybarAndCookies · 02/02/2020 22:25

BTW Don’t want to hijack the thread but is VIP worth it?

Depends what is included. Do you get front row or close to?
Some are just general admission and a gift pack full of stuff you might never touch.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/02/2020 22:26

Nooooooo to festivals, I don't do outside or portaloos.

londoncanyouwait · 02/02/2020 22:26

The most I've spent on one ticket was £120 quid for a gig at Wembley a few years ago. Other than that they've all been lower than 80 I think.
For local gigs I don't like to spend more than 35.

I bought some 2-4-1 in the O2 Black Friday sale.

I also go to festivals so spend up to 230 quid I guess with booking fees.

Gigs are one of the things I spend the most money on. I do find tickets expensive but don't mind spending the cash if I can afford it.

londoncanyouwait · 02/02/2020 22:28

I think there are 1 or two artists I'd pay VIP for. Most gigs I go to you're more likely to find the band on the merch stall after or having a pint.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/02/2020 22:30

I've never even though about VIP tickets, they are so expensive.
I couldn't do meet and greet, it was an option for someone I'm seeing next month but I'd just feel like a total dickhead!
Sorry to anyone who does it.

SecretMillionaire · 02/02/2020 22:30

I only occasionally go to concerts but my youngest daughter is a huge Queen fan and we have VIP tickets on the stage for the Queen and Adam Lambert Rhapsody tour. She has serious health problems so it will be worth the £1,800 we’ve spent to see her smile.

Bombaybunty · 02/02/2020 22:31

I've just paid £180 for two tickets to see Patti Smith.
I think that's the most I've ever paid.
I think some performances are seriously over priced.

Floralnomad · 02/02/2020 22:31

I also don’t do festivals , the closest I get is listening to Ramblin Man in my garden , and we don’t even live that close !

underneaththeash · 02/02/2020 22:32

I find music concerts a bit full on, I've been to a Madonna concert, Travis and Morrisey can didn't really enjoy any of them - too loud, too many people, difficult to get home etc.
I took DH to see last night of the proms a couple of Septembers ago and that was amazing....we paid a fortune to go - but I'd rather go there once every 20 years than a pop music concert every 6 months.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 02/02/2020 22:34

Varies really. Starting from a tenner, most of the time it's between 25-45 quid, Thursday I forked out £75 for MCR at Milton Keynes though. Don't know if I could ever pay meet and greet/VIP prices though, it just seems so much money (turning into my mother there Blush)

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/02/2020 22:34

My 18yr old goes to lots of free, up and coming band type things and enjoys it, but she still loves some big names, she was at Slipknot the other week and said they were brilliant, I'm terrified of masks!

LilyPinkNoah · 02/02/2020 22:38

I’ve just paid £344 for two tickets to see Queen and Adam Lambert! This includes 20 booking fee & facilities fee? So the ticket is £150

ohmyladygaga · 02/02/2020 22:39

For those discounting festivals. I get they're not for everyone but I've honestly seen some of the best gigs of my life at them and some huge artists for a fraction of the cost of a stadium gig and a much better atmosphere.

Beyoncé, The Killers, R.E.M., Bowie, Patti Smith all watched at festivals.

hoopdaloo · 02/02/2020 22:39

I've just got a ticket to see Alicia Keys £75ish.
Others has ranged from £12.50 (90s) to £50ish. £30 is probably the average but I tend to avoid big arenas and I'm not really a fan of the 'big stars'

BackforGood · 02/02/2020 22:40

Last year I spent 240 euro to see Hugh Jackman. Second row seat, totally worth it.

See, I saw Hugh Jackman last year - cost me £60 I think. It was a fantastic show, but not 240 Euros fantastic.

Go to festivals! Might seem like a lot but you’ll see so many bands and you’ll discover new acts.

Er - no thanks - I no longer camp and definitely don't do portaloos Grin

megletthesecond · 02/02/2020 22:42

I've spent £75 each for three Billie Eilish tickets this summer. We're up in the Gods.

My madonna blonde ambition tour tickets were sixteen quid each in 1990.

I'm sure gig tickets have rocketed like house prices.
