To find SOME Brexiteer gloating embarrassing?

I have read threads saying that we have left and "nothing has happened, just like the millennium bug".

Well, that'll be because we are transition so the No Deal situation has been avoided - for now.

And the millennium bug didn't happen because loads of IT people worked their arses off for years to prevent it.

I have read a rant about us needing new passports for this summer costing £1000, due to remained MPs and civil servants wanting to "punish" leavers.

I am cringing at the level of gloating and "so nerr" posts on here, flinging about bollocks as facts, and celebrating something which noone seems to be able to demonstrate any positives for.

Just me?

Found this in the DM:

“It's the funniest thing, but this morning I feel that I can breathe more easily. As if my lungs can actually fill up with air again. Great Britain is a strong and proud land. We always have been, but we've been pulled into something which felt like a sickened marriage - we became 'under the thumb, and that's not a good feeling. But - we tried it. We gave it a really good try, and in the end, the majority said that we needed our freedom, in order to be the strong country we actually are. We just now have to pull together and make Great Britain GREAT again. C'mon folks - lets show the world how great we really are!”

😂😂😂😂

This is sums it up for me "Parliament Square was a knuckle-dragging carnival of irredeemable stupidity"

Roussette · 01/02/2020 11:03

The type of person who sees things as always being someone else's fault. Very keen to have their rights but far less keen on taking responsibility

So agree. When Leavers say "let's come together" they mean "take some of the responsibility for the mess I've created".

And this notice put up in some London flats. Brexit has brought out the very worst in people. So shocking.

To find SOME Brexiteer gloating embarrassing?
PhilSwagielka · 01/02/2020 11:09

How are we going to make Britain great, exactly? We can't get the Empire back and we've outsourced loads of industry, for a start.

Clavinova · 01/02/2020 11:14

And this notice put up in some London flats

If it's genuine - could easily be fabricated.

PlomBear · 01/02/2020 11:15

Reading the Daily Mail, one would think that people are running around the streets hugging each other and crying “it’s Brexit day we have our country back.”

Clavinova · 01/02/2020 11:20

I am NOT saying all leavers are thick. But I would bet that most thick people voted leave.

I expect most people of lower intelligence are in the group who didn't vote at all. In 2011 people in Glasgow were found to have the fewest academic qualifications of anywhere in Britain - the referendum turnout in Glasgow was only 56%.

Clavinova · 01/02/2020 11:23

Glasgow must be a 'leave leaning' city after all. Grin

happyandsingle · 01/02/2020 11:23

I'm a leave voter and I dont feel the need to apologise to any remain voter.
It was a Democratic vote leave won and I'm a glad I live in a country where the people have a right to vote freely.

happyandsingle · 01/02/2020 11:25

Sadly some remainers cannot accept the decision without hurling abuse and insults at leave voters but that just says everything about them as a person.

bingbangbing · 01/02/2020 11:26

There we go@happyandsingle

Victim mentality!

PlomBear · 01/02/2020 11:27

Daily Mail comments are the best today.

“I've just walked to Waitrose. All around me, people were running up to random strangers and hugging them, tears running down their faces. "We have our country back!" All around me I can hear Rule Britannia playing. In Waitrose, nobody was buying forrin food. People were stocking up with BRITISH food such as beef and roast potatoes. What a day to be alive!”

“ Thank you. Not usually prone to tears, I burst out weeping on the eleventh stroke of the eleventh hour on Jan 31 2020. Tears of joy at the thought of being unfettered again, to make our own laws, to be able to control our own Politicians as to whom holds power, unlke in the EU where we had only a tiny voice. The EU is frightened that we will rise again and become a hugely successful nation. It suited their purpose to have us under their thumb. Never a truer saying - the world is our oyster.”

redcarbluecar · 01/02/2020 11:29

The Waitrose comment is a piss take, surely, but I like the idea of people racing round stocking up with beef to the tune of Rule B.

happyandsingle · 01/02/2020 11:30

Oh I dont feel like a victim far from it.
Dont know where that gem came from.

bingbangbing · 01/02/2020 11:33

You shouldn't feel like a victim- though complaining that someone called you thick is a bit snowflake.

You won. No fucker knows what the price is exactly, but you won it!

Softskin88 · 01/02/2020 11:33

Last nights telly coverage of it was a bit embarrassing. It was as though they deliberately sought out the daftest sounding people to give their Pro-Brexit views.

happyandsingle · 01/02/2020 11:41

Constantly whining about something is my definition of a snowflake- hello remainers.

dreamingbohemian · 01/02/2020 11:42

Most leavers seem unaware that this British 'greatness' they want to get back was based almost entirely on having a global empire. Which no longer exists.

They think Brexit is 'done' when actually we're still in transition and the hardest part is yet to come.

So just on those two points alone, yes I think many leavers are clueless and any gloating is really embarrassing.

bingbangbing · 01/02/2020 11:45

Wonder how they did that? Hmmm

I've tried my best to be polite about Brexit for the last few years, I really have.

I haven't called anybody thick, racist or gammon (think that term is problematic itself). I've tried to listen to the arguments on the other side. I've tried to see that point of view.

Yet, all I see is flag waving drivel about getting our country back. I hate flags. I'd burn every single one of them. Union Jack, EU Flag, Stars and Stripes, all of them.

Patriotism is bollox. That has been proven time and time again.

Yet that is what leave and the celebrations were based on.

Fucking patriotism. A relic of the shittier elements of the past.

bingbangbing · 01/02/2020 11:47

@happyandsingle

You're moaning about remainers.

bingbangbing · 01/02/2020 11:49

And this whole stand alone as a country business

At what point in history have we successfully stood alone? When?

MrPickles73 · 01/02/2020 11:50

MN has been so remain focused it's untrue. The obsession with brexiteers being racist, stupid and northern was very patronising.
Hopefully we can all put it behind us now.

LolaSmiles · 01/02/2020 11:52

Constantly whining about something is my definition of a snowflake- hello remainers.
Remind me what UKIP, Farage and the Eurosceptic wing of the Conservatives have been doing for years because they wanted to leave... Hmm

It's this sort of stupid comment that highlight the problem with the debate: "I got what I wanted and now you should all shut up you silly snowflakes... Please don't hold the government to account or talk about the big issues affecting the country. Don't talk about the issues of funding and ethics of the brexit campaign period because if you comment on that then you're a remoaners and need to get over it. Don't remind people that prominent leave politicians stand to gain and are very much part of the elite so don't have any intention of looking after your average citizen, that's mean and moaning, Rees-Mogg totally is looking out for us and Boris is our anti-elite guru. Anyone who remains interested in politics and wants to discuss and debate the issues in the transition period is clearly just whining, we don't need a debate on anything regarding what happens next or the problems that arise because we won and got brexit so nerrrr"

BoneyBackJefferson · 01/02/2020 11:56

bingbangbing
Victim mentality!

Strange pretty much all of the "victim mentality" posts that I have seen have been from remainers.

As for embarrassing things said on threads there are enough from both sides.

and with burning flags, nazi salutes and racism. I agree that those doing this are idiots.

bingbangbing · 01/02/2020 11:56

Looking at all the Brexit celebrations, I think that a lot of them just wanted to be on the winning side for once.

Genuinely think that played a part in it.
