To find SOME Brexiteer gloating embarrassing?

I have read threads saying that we have left and "nothing has happened, just like the millennium bug".

Well, that'll be because we are transition so the No Deal situation has been avoided - for now.

And the millennium bug didn't happen because loads of IT people worked their arses off for years to prevent it.

I have read a rant about us needing new passports for this summer costing £1000, due to remained MPs and civil servants wanting to "punish" leavers.

I am cringing at the level of gloating and "so nerr" posts on here, flinging about bollocks as facts, and celebrating something which noone seems to be able to demonstrate any positives for.

Just me?

Most of our traditions are being eroded. I could give a dozen examples. Have given a few above.

The EU is much more likely to protect them than Trump- which is what we've voted for.

malylis · 02/02/2020 13:40

Don't understand how the EU is to do with eroding traditions though.

There are a few examples given, but even those aren't gone everywhere. The May queen still exists in areas that have deep traditional links to it.

There are many reasons for some traditions none are to do with the EU.

Roussette · 02/02/2020 13:49

Since when did the EU ban May Queens?! Nonsense. Near me they have one.
And maypole dancing where I used to live not far away and still going on I hear.
And Morris dancers, they were jumping around outside our local pub in September.

If it's faded away where you live it's because no one can be arsed to organise it

ohhkay · 02/02/2020 13:52

I'm equally appalled by the characterisation of all leavers as thickos and bigots.

Said as a mixed-race remainer.

malylis · 02/02/2020 13:58

I actually see more people complaining about all leavers being characterised as thickos and bigots than I see it happening.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 02/02/2020 14:12

I don’t think all leavers are thickos. I think some are very smart and have set themselves up to do jolly well out of this. I think some know exactly what they were voting for. It doesn’t make me like them any better, in fact I like them even less.

madcatladyforever · 02/02/2020 14:16

Brexiteer gloating that's rich.
All I've heard for the last three years is remainers telling leavers that we are a piece of shit, that we are rascists and xenophobic, that we are too thick to know what we are talking about etc etc ad nauseam.
Piss off with your opinions, I've just about had it.

madcatladyforever · 02/02/2020 14:19

Oh yes and to add to that I've lived all over the world for years, including several EU countries, have friends of every race and nationality, am from a mixed race family and I really hate being told what I am and what I think by some twits who have never been off this island apart from 2 weeks holiday abroad.
Go and live abroad before you have an opinion.

Roussette · 02/02/2020 14:21

This sums it up for me... taken from elsewhere..

This is what's been thrown away:

The best deal & highest rebate of 27 nations.
No Schengen. No Euro. Full input.
Full veto. Seat at the table

759 trade treaties. Full FOM
Freedon to travel, live, work & retire freely.
Cost? £29/person per year.

There will be No coming together

ilovesooty · 02/02/2020 14:28

I have no wish to "come together" with people who thought it was a good idea for us to lose all those benefits.

malylis · 02/02/2020 14:39

I think some leavers are a little sensitive, its perfectly fine to criticise reasons for leaving as stupid or racist if they are.

It doesn't mean all leavers (as this title thread makes clear).

augustusglupe · 02/02/2020 14:44

madcatladyforever Here here!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

dimsum123 · 02/02/2020 14:54

@augustusglupe, I fully admit this is a cheap shot, but I think you mean 'Hear, hear'.

You make it very to not believe leavers are not particularly intelligent or educated....

CherryPavlova · 02/02/2020 14:55

Britain losing its heritage, its customs and traditions as the reason to drag us into obscurity?
Things like stopping Sunday opening, pubs closing at 11pm, smoking in confined public spaces, signs in hotels saying, "No blacks or Irish" , watching the minstrels or Love thy Neighbour's and Benny Hill on the tiny black.and white television, holidays at Pontins if you were lucky? Not yet convinced but maybe you mean older traditions like only men voting or children up chimneys?
Is it just the May Queen? Alive and well in many Catholic primary schools as May is the month of Mary. Lots of girls in white dresses and blossom.
Or Morris dancing. Visit the Isle of Wight lots there.
Local food, of course. Tripe and onions instead of spaghetti bolognese; liver and bacon instead of bouillabaisse. Not entirely sure about this but happy to purchase Sharpham cheeses, Tinwood, Ventnor bay crab or clotted cream. The EU hasn't prevented that though, has it?

Nope the notion of Britishness is in itself nationalistic and racist. Look to.1933.

dimsum123 · 02/02/2020 14:56

hard (typo not grammar before a leaver points out the mistake)

Ofthread · 02/02/2020 15:00

YANBU, that spectacle of flag waving, union jack tie and underpants wearing, shouting, hostile, intolerant, one-liner politics the other night is an embarrassment to this country.

CherryPavlova · 02/02/2020 15:00

So which heritage specifically are we talking about that was lost through EU membership? I remain confused.

Ofthread · 02/02/2020 15:02

CherryPavlova, I think it's Rule Britannia & the pants

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 02/02/2020 15:08

@mykingdom with respect when you've had your elderly father in tears because he's been told by so,e pathetic little racist to fuck, off back to his own country after spending over 40 years as a doctor in this country - then you can lecture me about racism.

My father's original country sent his family to the gas chambers.
He was then sent to another country that eventually threatened to arrest him and his family (my mother, brother. Sister, me) because my parents dared to resist communist dogma.

He is now being subjected to attacks in a third country because narrow minded, bigoted and yes, thick, uneducated and stupid people have decided that post Brexit he has no place here.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 02/02/2020 15:12

I have no wish to "come together" with people who thought it was a good idea for us to lose all those benefits

Me neither.

And My family have seen what happens when intolerance towards people who are a different religion and race is allowed to seep into national culture. I'm nit saying it isn't happening elsewhere, but to choose isolation now is dangerous.

CherryPavlova · 02/02/2020 15:13

Leighhalfpennysthigh that is incredibly sad, but I fear not uncommon. Anyone who believes that Britain is not enriched by people like your father are thick bigots.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 02/02/2020 15:16

@CherryPavlova thank you. And I agree with every word of your last post.

To far too many people "Britishness" means going back to the 1970's, instead of the welcoming, liberal, cosmopolitan country we had become.

Ofthread · 02/02/2020 15:21

Leighhalfpenny - I stand with you against this little by little creep of intolerance in our culture. Your father is always welcome here, along with anyone who has suffered from persecution, racism, intolerance, bigotry, discrimination, or indeed, anyone who can make us a better country, and fight with us against these bigots.

We've got racist threads on here about a virus in China. Viruses don't discriminate, humans discriminate. Wake up people.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 02/02/2020 15:24

(typo not grammar before a leaver points out the mistake)

The arrogance! My typo is just a mistake, but yours demonstrates stupidity and lack of intelligence! Hmm

SusanneLinder · 02/02/2020 15:25

Ardent remainer here, and apart from Twitter and certain newspaper sites and TV channels, I haven't seen any of my leaver friends gloating. Twitter is particularly vile at moment ( isn't it always?), so have stayed away from it. Just raises my blood pressure. Hmm.
I don't think all leavers are thick and racist, however the ones that have appeared on Twitter are.
Having said that, none of us know what is going to happen so the next 11 months will be interesting, politically.
Now we have gone, I expect the EU will play hardball with us in the "divorce" settlement. Interesting times.
