Boris certainly isn't afraid, he won a massive majority just over a month ago on promising to deliver Brexit, what an odd comment.

Coppersulphate · 31/01/2020 13:03

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY everyone.

This should have been happening months ago.
At last we have what we voted for.
Enjoy your day.
I am going to,settle down, listen to Boris (stocking majority 👏👏👏) and drink my English sparkling wine.

Havanananana · 31/01/2020 13:06

Well I've just check that @Havanananana and according to the BBC the Conservatives won 43.6% of votes. That's 3 million more votes than Labour.

Correct - which confirms what I wrote; 56% of those who voted did not vote for the Conservatives.

Labour were not the only other party standing. In Scotland the SNP wiped the floor with both the Conservatives and Labour.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 31/01/2020 13:07

Well nothing much changes after 11pm tonight so I'm not sure what exactly is being celebrated. The changes will come in January 2021. That is when you might get what you voted for. Whatever that is.

HomerSimpsonSmilingPolitely · 31/01/2020 13:08

I will celebrate when everyone stops talking about brexit. I don't think that's going to happen for quite a while. A lot of things are still up in the air.

amd4578 · 31/01/2020 13:10

Many of the remainers that are saying i hope you all admit it was a bad idea when everything goes wrong... Will you also happily admit if things improve? i doubt that very much. our economy could be flying and the NHS recovering from how bad it has been, but you would all still come on here and complain that your avocados are costing your 12p more now than they did before brexit and we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Lets just wait and see. No one can predict what will happen as its never happened before.

JassyRadlett · 31/01/2020 13:11

OP, I'm glad you're pleased about this and I sincerely hope this works out well for you and for others.

However, I would ask you to reflect on the use of 'VEU Day' which is fairly offensive, particularly in the context of anniversaries that took place this week and that will take place this year.

SilverySurfer · 31/01/2020 13:11

Either there is something more important than that to a country's prime minister. Or he's afraid.

You can dream. He's holding a Cabinet meeting up there.

madcatladyforever · 31/01/2020 13:15

I'm thrilled I can't wait. I've got my champagne on ice and will be up all night watching the celebrations. Best day of my life so far.
I've lived extensively in Europe when I was younger and people in France and Germany are just not happy with the EU at all, and it has destroyed their individual culture.

Havanananana · 31/01/2020 13:17

Many of the remainers that are saying i hope you all admit it was a bad idea when everything goes wrong... Will you also happily admit if things improve?

I will happily admit that I was wrong if things improve. I will eat a large slice of humble pie along with my Waitrose avocado and might even wash it down with a glass of Spitfire Ale.

But if those of us who believe that Brexit is the most damaging decision that the UK has ever made are proved right, what are Brexiters going to do (other than attempt to continue to put the blame on Remainers, doomsters and gloomsters, the EU and anyone else they can think of)?

Alsohuman · 31/01/2020 13:19

That is a clear democratic mandate to leave the EU

No it isn’t.

ethelfleda · 31/01/2020 13:20

Bore off OP

ethelfleda · 31/01/2020 13:21

Best day of my life so far

Just. Wow. Confused

InOtterNews · 31/01/2020 13:21

Trying really hard to not let it get to me as an EU citizen (with settled status). The dark cloud over me today is not just the weather though.

It's payday and it's the last day of dry January.

So I'm going to allow myself to finish the month technically a day early so I can be shitfaced by 11pm and probably commiserate

ThePlantsitter · 31/01/2020 13:23

If it works out that the UK is wealthier, employment and human rights laws are better, NHS is improved, places like Cornwall still have live humans living in them, peace in Europe is maintained along with peace in NI and I and my kids have the right to live, work, and trade across 27 other countries, YES, I will take it all back. I'll come on here and I'll grovel and say you were all right and you DID know what you were voting for after all.

ethelfleda · 31/01/2020 13:24

48 % didn’t vote to leave. You can not be surprised at the amount of people who are unhappy about today

This.
And rather than the 52% putting a collective arm around the rest of us and saying, “don’t worry, you might be anxious but I think it will a good thing”

They’re just gloating with their fucking stupid ‘we won get over it’ comments. I hate this country so much at the moment.

Villanomme · 31/01/2020 13:24

Many of the remainers that are saying i hope you all admit it was a bad idea when everything goes wrong... Will you also happily admit if things improve?

Of course I would. Will you if it's proven to be an unmitigating disaster?

KidLorneRoll · 31/01/2020 13:25

"Best day of my life so far".

That and the references to the war say it all really. Selfish arseholes who don't give a fuck that they've seriously damaged the prospects and privileges of the youth of the country - who didn't even get a say in the matter - in favour of a rose-tinted view of the past.

Motherclucker01 · 31/01/2020 13:26

Best day of my life so far

That’s actually really, really sad.

PortiaCastis · 31/01/2020 13:28

I just want to say Farage4PM my arse! The man cannot even win a seat let alone be a PM
Charlatan!!

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 31/01/2020 13:28

It's hardly unexpected that those who voted for something based on bigotry and lies are now being obnoxious twats.

TroubleNo1 · 31/01/2020 13:29

Wow it is crazy how bitter the Remainers are. The vitriol is astonishing.
A lot of their argument seems to be that Brexiteers are ignorant, arrogant and uneducated etc..... but judging by the language and tone that Remainers are using here it seems they should be looking in the mirror at who is ignorant, arrogant etc.

Havanananana · 31/01/2020 13:30

people in France and Germany are just not happy with the EU at all, and it has destroyed their individual culture

Which is strange, because all of the EU citizens that I speak to are very clear about the advantages of being members of a large political and trading bloc when negotiating with the US, Russia and China, and they recognise that although they have to make compromises, being in the EU is preferable and more beneficial to being out.

In my travels around Europe, where I currently spend about half of my working life, I have not noticed that any country has lost its individual culture. Where there have been changes, it has been due to the proliferation of American influences such as McDonalds and Coca-Cola, not some imaginary 'EU' influences.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 13:30

*Best day of my life so far

I agree mother thats really sad, but maybe they are young and haven’t had anything lovely happen to them

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 13:31
