Thank god we are only a few hours away from being a free and independent and a global outlooking country! Happy VEU day everyone!!
Let's all join together, enjoy and celebrate our victory over antidemocracy and enjoy our new found and hard fought freedom!!

I've not taken anything away. I voted remain.
And yes, some of the vitriol I've seen levelled at people is bullying in my eyes.

ThePlantsitter · 31/01/2020 18:10

You're lucky that you're not feeling this rage at half country quite honestly SueEllenMischke. Sadly being told to join in and put up with being stolen from without any reason to do so is not cooling it.

SilverySurfer · 31/01/2020 18:10

The bottom line is it's a happy day for Leavers and it would have been great to have just one thread for us to celebrate. Obviously that was asking for too much, but despite this thread being overrun by remainers, they are really irrelevant as we raise a glass of bubbly to a day which has been too long coming.

Happy brexit day
Cinammoncake · 31/01/2020 18:14

It's like if someone burned my house down and then suggested I should be happy about living in a caravan with them, that it would be better, and then tried to have a little party waving a tiny flag and then got annoyed with me for not 'pulling together'

DappledThings · 31/01/2020 18:15

Cinammoncake This is a very good analogy. Even though it has made me even sadder.

KizzyWayfarer · 31/01/2020 18:17

Has anyone yet given one way in which Brexit will be of practical benefit to anyone? Let alone a benefit that is so great it will outweigh the many billions it will cost and the negative impacts on individuals and families that have been frequently explained here and elsewhere...

GiveHerHellFromUs · 31/01/2020 18:21

@BritneyPeedOnALadybug sorry if I confused you. I agreed with @SueEllenMishke that we can't and shouldn't label Leave voters as stupid or racist but I think if someone posts "what you're posting isn't correct because my husband voted Leave for reasons that weren't racist" they should then be willing to share what those reasons are.

This is the problem we're having. Some Remainers are frustrated that Leave voters insist their reasons weren't racially motivated but then decline to actually discuss what their reasons were.
It's much easier to accept someone's decision if they can justify it, even if you don't particularly agree with it yourself.

OK KizzyWayfarer - one small thing.

I've been paying the tampon tax all my adult ( and teenage!) life as it is EU rules that they have to carry VAT. There is now no excuse for our Govt not to be able to exempt them. It's getting a bit late now for me but I could still benefit for a few more years.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 31/01/2020 18:30

@GiveHerHellFromUs
Thanks for the clarification. I was a bit unsure of the point being raised.

Do you blame them? The post in which this conversation stemmed from asked the other user to get their DH to come on here and explain mansplain their decision and in the same sentence said that he wouldn’t because whatever his reason is would be a ridiculous one. What’s the point?

Cinammoncake · 31/01/2020 18:32

Germany has scrapped its tampon tax. Just sayin

dwum · 31/01/2020 18:32

Rumour has it that Nissan Europe will be closing its doors in the not too distant future...

And the EU country I live in is not at all jealous. Bemused, aghast and curious is more fitting.

Anyway, happy willingly giving up a fuck ton of human rights day.

I do genuinely hope that all of the Leavers will remain this happy with their decision over the next 5 years.

nonsensicalmess · 31/01/2020 18:32

But why has it been too long coming, @SilverySurfer ? Seriously, maybe if those of us who feel anger and frustration at what's happened could understand the reasons why - actual, tangible reasons that make sense - maybe we wouldn't have as much to say? But all I can see is flag waving and the same shite about independence and unelected bureaucrats, so of course we're going to remain aggrieved at losing the benefits we enjoy as an EU member.

Cinammoncake · 31/01/2020 18:33

Do you blame them?

Yes people do blame them and want them to explain their reasons and what the benefits will be. Which they won't and can't do.

KidLorneRoll · 31/01/2020 18:34

I have no problem thinking leavers are stupid. They voted to be worse off, to lose rights and they cannot articulate a single positive benefit.

That's pretty fucking stupid.

nonsensicalmess · 31/01/2020 18:34

I think this may already have been pointed out, but while not all leave voters are thick and racist, if a person is thick and racist, they will have voted leave. It's fairly simple.

Good point.

silenceofthemams · 31/01/2020 18:38

I heard Katie Hopkins was barred from Twitter. Did she wander over here...?

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 31/01/2020 18:38

I knew someone who was vehemently anti Brexit who was a UKIP voter. Make of that what you will. (And if you make something of it, let me know, because I’m still trying to get my head around it).

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 31/01/2020 18:41

Did you read my post? The one that I was referencing said that whatever reason the DH would provide would be ridiculous, without even hearing it. So yeah, what’s the point of entering into a discussion when the other person has already stated they won’t accept the persons point of view without knowing what it is?

TeddyIsaHe · 31/01/2020 18:42

That’s because every single reason for Brexit has been ridiculous so far. Still waiting for anyone to make a reasoned argument for this.

They can’t!

ChazP · 31/01/2020 18:42

14 pages into this thread and still not one tangible benefit outlined by a single person “celebrating”.
And so still we wait for a single positive to be outlined.....

EverythingChanges321 · 31/01/2020 18:43

Happy Brexit day yourself.

I'm looking forward to a united Ireland and getting my Scottish European passport. Smile

DappledThings · 31/01/2020 18:43

The EU once issued a directive that said we all had to start referring to milk as "liquid bovine product".

In a world of utter bollocks and stupidity that remains the most ridiculous pronouncement I ever heard.

TeddyIsaHe · 31/01/2020 18:43

And that unfortunately is why leavers have been branded thick. Because if you passionately believe in something, surely you are able to back that up in a discussion with facts and reasonings? Not random things they’ve read in the S*n.

Cinammoncake · 31/01/2020 18:45

Fair enough britneypeedonaladybug but I for one would like to know the reasons phd husband has got. Anything really, to offer some sort of consolation or justification for everything that has been lost. But what's obvious is that it doesn't exist.
