to ask what you’re supposed to put in wire baskets?

I bought an old gold coloured wire basket a few months ago thinking “ooh, that’s pretty storage.” Obviously I am a dickhead because ever since I’ve had it I can’t work out what I can actually put in it that looks nice whilst actually being functional. Any ideas?

It’s not big enough for blankets or towels. Small items fall out of the holes. Anything non-pretty looks shite as obviously you can see all the random crap because it’s just made of wire. I already have a fruit bowl so can’t use if for fruit. Does it have a purpose or am I forever destined to display a pointless empty basket?

How big is it?

Can you post a picture of it, next to something to compare it to, your hand or something?

Smellbow · 30/01/2020 16:01

This is exactly the kind of thing I'd do - you've made me laugh!

Could you put in a nice bit of material to line it, then you could store whatever in it?

Lookedtwice · 30/01/2020 16:02

Can’t post a pic but having inspected it thoroughly I have discovered that it’s big enough to wear on my head like a jaunty hat, if that helps.

Vegetables, loo rolls, post/to-do paperwork

I can't think of anything else.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/01/2020 16:03

Magazines and books?

NeverForGood · 30/01/2020 16:03

How big are the holes?

Poing · 30/01/2020 16:04

I bought two rectangular ones a while back and faced a similar quandary.

Toilet rolls on the shelf above the loo and bits and bobs in the laundry. Otherwise, I wouldn't use em. Look nice but not really practical. Good luck!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/01/2020 16:05

I have one on my (wanky, hipster) towel rail made from vintage wooden ladders in my bathroom, with all my flannels rolled up in it.

Other than that, I've got nothing.

CSIblonde · 30/01/2020 16:06

Is it v small? If you watch You Tube decor hacks, they put 4 folded face cloths tied in ribbon in stuff like that (for display, not for use!) . I have tiny bathroom so nowhere to put stuff like that.

ZaZathecat · 30/01/2020 16:06

It's not meant to be an egg basket is it?

HollowTalk · 30/01/2020 16:06

I was going to say rolled up flannels, but @thenewaveragebear1983 beat me to it.

hipslikecinderella · 30/01/2020 16:06

Flannel, cotton wool balls

Lookedtwice · 30/01/2020 16:06

I’m going to have to roll up some fucking flannels aren’t I?

OP posts:
Lampan · 30/01/2020 16:07

Stand a plant pot in it?

Lookedtwice · 30/01/2020 16:07

Don’t think it’s meant to be an egg basket - unless most people have about 20 eggs stored in their kitchens at a time? Which they might. I am a bit of a loose cannon on the domestic front so have no idea if this is typical.

Lookedtwice · 30/01/2020 16:08

Ooh plant pot might work. Like a DOUBLE PLANT POT. Will investigate.

a Pineapple

GruciusMalfoy · 30/01/2020 16:10

Naice handwash and moisturiser etc? I'm no good at this stuff either, though. All function and no style.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/01/2020 16:16

Oooh oooh I've thought of another one!
Maybe put all your sauces in it in the fridge then you can get it out at mealtimes to put on the table?

Again, it's a bit wanky though, isn't it?

My flannel basket would be posh and stylish if my flannels were nice...

youngestisapsycho · 30/01/2020 16:21

I don’t own a flannel 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’d probably put socks in it! 😁

Settlersofcatan · 30/01/2020 16:25

I store the kids cuddly toys in one

mynameiscalypso · 30/01/2020 16:26

Napkins?

abstractzebra · 30/01/2020 16:28

I always say to my daughter 'don't buy storage boxes unless you've got something in mind to go in them!'
I've just rolled up my tea towels and put them in a basket that hangs under the kitchen cupboard because it's been sitting there empty for 2 years 😬

BlueJava · 30/01/2020 16:31

Fruit basket? Soaps, socks, makeup. If not just sell it or charrity shop it.

adaline · 30/01/2020 16:32

Fruit, magazines, books, toiletries, perfumes, make-up, soap, socks, shoes....

We have woven baskets and they're used for all sorts.
