to ask what you’re supposed to put in wire baskets?

I bought an old gold coloured wire basket a few months ago thinking “ooh, that’s pretty storage.” Obviously I am a dickhead because ever since I’ve had it I can’t work out what I can actually put in it that looks nice whilst actually being functional. Any ideas?

It’s not big enough for blankets or towels. Small items fall out of the holes. Anything non-pretty looks shite as obviously you can see all the random crap because it’s just made of wire. I already have a fruit bowl so can’t use if for fruit. Does it have a purpose or am I forever destined to display a pointless empty basket?

We only have one wire basket and we put chips on it!

longcoffee · 30/01/2020 22:42

Surely the only obvious answer is another, smaller wire basket?

Repeat as required

After some extensive research on Pinterest, it seems that you put them on the shelf with nothing in them and they just look pretty.

MoonlightMistletoe · 30/01/2020 22:53

Fruit ?

justilou1 · 30/01/2020 22:54

Get a couple of pretty tea towels and line it with those, then whatever you want

Loyaultemelie · 30/01/2020 23:02

Ooh o now want a wanky wire basket to join the several wicker ones I don't know what to put in

SquishyLint · 30/01/2020 23:04

Now, this is why I joined Mumsnet!

Littleshortcake · 30/01/2020 23:08

I actually have a copper wire basket I have never used Grin good ideas

CilantroChili · 30/01/2020 23:12

Fruit! It’s meant to let the air circulate so the pieces at the bottom don’t rot

Smidge001 · 30/01/2020 23:24

@cilantroChili I'm guessing you didn't read the OP.

7Days · 30/01/2020 23:29

Not all your eggs, though

chocolateteapot20 · 30/01/2020 23:29

Teatowels, toiletries, household cleaners?

iabvvu · 30/01/2020 23:32

I use mine for hair tools/brushes, works well!

hannahbanana2007 · 30/01/2020 23:34

@milliefiori I read that as put an ALIEN napkin in it not a linen, I was curious as to how you had such a thing 😆

Grin at plant jail!

We gathered all the bottles of posh oil, chilli sauce and things that we can't resist in farm shops but never eat because we forget about them and out them in a nice box on the worktop. Now they are getting used up as we actually add them to soups and salads and things. Would it work for that?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/01/2020 07:36

Put all your purses/small bags/scarves in and put on top of the wardrobe.

BodenGate · 31/01/2020 07:36

I bought a wire basket for the sake of it recently and put books in it.

Wafflehouse · 31/01/2020 12:15

I bought three of these, little matt gold ones, they are wanky but I put them up open side facing out as shelves for tiny fake succulents. That probably makes me extra wanky.

windycuntryside · 31/01/2020 12:24

Fire basket in the garden.

windycuntryside · 31/01/2020 12:25

@Wafflehouse What are fake succulents?

Wafflehouse · 31/01/2020 12:28

Just little plastic ones in glass jars. I kill all plants, even ones that don’t need water so thought I’d be safe with fake ones. Smile

MutteringDarkly · 31/01/2020 12:32

Grin Grin at "pointless basket of light"

Wool, is probably what I'd end up with. Stunt wool (i.e. random balls I'd bought because they were soft and pretty but I have no idea what to make with them so they will never be used).

Onions?
