to ask what you’re supposed to put in wire baskets?

I bought an old gold coloured wire basket a few months ago thinking “ooh, that’s pretty storage.” Obviously I am a dickhead because ever since I’ve had it I can’t work out what I can actually put in it that looks nice whilst actually being functional. Any ideas?

It’s not big enough for blankets or towels. Small items fall out of the holes. Anything non-pretty looks shite as obviously you can see all the random crap because it’s just made of wire. I already have a fruit bowl so can’t use if for fruit. Does it have a purpose or am I forever destined to display a pointless empty basket?

A selection of plastic succulents/cacti, if you want to use it as decor.

Otherwise, onions, shallots, garlic. Or indeed any veg that doesn’t need storing in the fridge. Potatoes, maybe. In a cupboard, as they like the dark. Which also solves the looking like shite problem.

Line it with a tea towel or napkin and use it as a bread basket.

Magazine holder.

Loo roll holder.

I’d probably use it to store my fabric cut offs.

I use them in cupboards. So all the little baking bits that get lost in drawers. Or my stick blender that breaks down into lots of bits. I have one with spices and spice mixes in too.

I have a miniature shopping trolley on my desk at work - I put an apple in it each day.

ScampiLady · 31/01/2020 19:24

Mine are two tier baskets, with a handle let me tell you Blush

Receipts go in the bottom section and my numerous reading glasses in the top. Seem to lose glasses so they need their own spot in each room, its an age thing.

BarbedBloom · 31/01/2020 19:27

I have one with flannels in and one tall one that stores my eyeshadow palettes. Oh and one that hooks over a cupboard door and has my hair tools in it

This thread has brightened my day! I am so glad it is not just me that guys random storage then can't decide what to put in it....

milliefiori · 01/02/2020 09:24

@hannahbanana2007 - you read right. We do have alien napkins. Only the chosen few read what I wrote and understand Wink. Bit of a schlep to go and buy them but they keep the bread so warm.

milliefiori · 01/02/2020 09:29

I've just realised I have one! My DSis gave it to me for Christmas three years ago. After living in th ebottom of my wardrobe for 2 1/2 years because I had no idea what to do with it, it now holds cleaning products in my bathroom. But it looks up at me really sulkily every time I go in, indicating it should be lined with moss and planted with spring bulbs.

woodhill · 01/02/2020 13:52

Yes definitely use plastic baskets for wool and those wicker lined ones.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/02/2020 14:01

I keep my washing liquid and lenor in one on the top of the machine.

Look on Instagram ,the people with grey houses will give you ideas Wink

HumansAreConsumable · 01/02/2020 14:04

Everything in my house is in a basket.

TitchyP · 01/02/2020 14:13

Toilet rolls is obvious one but you say it only fits two. How are you putting them in? Could you build a bog-roll pyramid?

We need a photo for scale.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/02/2020 14:13

And mine Humans but wicker not wire that way the clutter /mess stays hidden

topcat your shopping trolley and indeed your desk must eventually become completely buried in apples?

Squigean · 01/02/2020 14:31

Put an orchid in it. They are suppose to have light at the roots hence the plastic pots they tend to come in.

I suspect it's supposed to be a fruit bowel. So maybe have it as a banana isolation unit. They don't like other fruit really, so won't mind.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 01/02/2020 14:38

I have a wanky two-tier basket in the kitchen. Bottom tier is garlic and ginger root (and occasionally fresh turmeric for extra wank points). Top tier is lemons and limes and the occasional stunt pomegranate. At the moment there is an immortal satsuma in there; it's been there since Christmas and still looks perfect... I daren't move it!

MutteringDarkly · 01/02/2020 18:40

I read that as "immoral satsuma"
