To ask those who work FT, what time do you get home everyday?

And what time do you leave in the morning?

I leave for the day at 7:20am and arrive home at 6:30pm. Working hours are 9-5. A lot of my time is spent waiting for public transport (trains mostly).

I feel like by the time I’ve got home I have no time to do anything! I’d love to leave be home earlier each day, but I wonder whether it’s ever possible (I work in the city) and what the norm is for other FT workers on here.

I leave at 7.40 and usually home (after picking up dc) between 5 and 5.30.

Fifthtimelucky · 28/01/2020 16:06

I used to leave the house at 6.45 am and get home anytime between 7.30pm - 8.30pm. Got fed up of it last year and took early retirement!

irregularegular · 28/01/2020 16:08

Normally 6pm. And normally leave at 7.40am.

It can be later eg tomorrow I have a work dinner so won't be home until late. It's not quite real work, but it's not my choice either. Occasionally earlier if there is something specific I need to get home for, but that is rare. I normally work at home 1-2 days per week. I'd get a bit fed up of it if not.

Having said that, I consider 6pm to be on the early side. There is still 5 hours of evening left! One night I play in a band, another yoga, another Spanish classes. There is plenty of time...

Butterflyflower1234 · 28/01/2020 16:10

I can leave/arrive at two times. If I leave home at 7:30am, I will be home by 5:30pm and if I leave at 8:00am, I'm home by 6:00pm.

LittleTopic · 28/01/2020 16:14

I leave at 7.15 to drop DD at her childminder. Work a rotation of 8-4.30 or 8.30-5, so home by 5.30 or 6 depending which shift I work.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/01/2020 16:15

When I worked I left the house at 6:45 and got home anytime after 7pm ( usually nearer 8pm and often 9pm ) .

My hours were supposed to be 9-5 but anyone who tried to work only within those times would be managed out very quickly for not being team players.

DH leaves at 6:45 and he's lucky to be home before 9pm.

This is working in London and commuting 30 miles by train.

2000lightyearsaway123 · 28/01/2020 16:18

I leave the house at 7.10am and I get home about 7.20pm. I work from home 2 days a week though.

godivaqueen · 28/01/2020 16:20

When I worked ft I used to leave house 7:45 return 8/9pm depending on what was on. Stayed that way until dd went to school and school admin did my head in so thankfully now very much pt.

godivaqueen · 28/01/2020 16:23

@MaryShelley1818 I worked in 'The City' which is also known as the square mile in London and is a real place I promise ha! I think I'd refer to a particular city ie Birmingham rather than the city if I didn't mean the square mile, not sure if that's what others in here are doing though

cormorantyes · 28/01/2020 16:24

I work ft hours but very flexible as to when and where, can choose to work at home any time so usually do 2 or 3 days 8.15 leave house return 6pm and 2 or 3 days leave house 7.30 back by 2.30 and work at home and around for when kids back from school.

OhNoMyCheds · 28/01/2020 16:25

Leave the house 6:45am to get to the office for 8, home at 5pm work in London.

V1Rotate · 28/01/2020 16:25

Leave home at 05:30, get home at about 15:45.

Apirateslifeforme · 28/01/2020 16:29

I've often left home at 6am, got back by 7:30pm.
Same place and hours as my husband was working.
We both found that it wasnt working out for us like that.
DH in particular didnt do well with it. Hes taken a fairly large pay cut to be closer to home. It means hes often leaving the house at 6:30 and tends to arrive home by about 5pm which allows for him to send a decent amount of time at home and were all far happier for it.

BrokenWing · 28/01/2020 16:37

I work roughly Mo-Th 7:00-15:45, then Friday 7:00-12:00. Which is 38hrs.

Mo-Th I leave home 6:15ish to meet my carsharers, 21 mile journey into Glasgow over the bridge and I'm back home at 16:20ish. Friday I WFH.

Going in early and home early by car, missing peak traffic, drastically reduces my commute time, but appreciate I'm lucky to have on site parking.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 28/01/2020 18:13

Lucky enough to work from home, so switch on at 9 ish and switch off at 5 ish, although I'll work earlier or later if I have a lot on or am travelling.

MaryShelley1818 · 28/01/2020 18:14

@godivaqueen thank you for the explanation, that makes sense :)

Lazypuppy · 28/01/2020 18:16

Leave at 7:15
Work 7:30-4:30 most days
Home by 5

Sometimes work till 5 or 6 if i wat to build up flexi

JustMarriedBecca · 28/01/2020 18:19

Out 7-7 three days a week, two days WFH 9-3pm so I can do the school run hence the two longer days. I live for the shorter days.

When I worked in the city I'd do 8am-10pm. Not conducive to life with kids hence moving out. Anyone who worked their contracted hours would be managed out or told they wouldn't be promoted.

Mikethenight2good · 28/01/2020 18:20

I used to leave at 7.30/8 and be home between 7.30/8. Again long commute.
I recently changed to a local role and is has made a huge difference!! Leave at 8/8.30, home by 5.30/6. Much more time to spend with the kids.

fedup21 · 28/01/2020 18:20

I leave at 7.20 and home by 6.30.

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/01/2020 18:21

The perks of a city job is flexible working. I and my DH work from home and find it works really well with pick ups and drop offs. On the days I work in the city I come home approx 7pm. Leave at 6am.

plominoagain · 28/01/2020 18:21

Leave at 4 , start at 7 . 100 mile each way commute and a 12 hour shift in between . Work full time , usually 6 shifts on and 4 days off .

KatherineJaneway · 28/01/2020 18:22

Leave 7:35 - 7:40am and get home about 5:25pm. Hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm (my choice).

LouisaJenny · 28/01/2020 18:22

I leave at 7:15 to start at 8. Its about a 20 min drive, but I like to arrive early to eat breakfast before I start.

I’m home by 4:30pm.

HicDraconis · 28/01/2020 18:22

Before we moved - I’d leave at 6.30 to be at work for 8, then leave work somewhere around 6 and be at home for 8pm depending on traffic.

Since we moved I leave at 7.45 to be in for 8 and if I go straight home, I’m back in by 6.10. A couple of days a week I have karate after work so I head there for 6.30-8.30 and home by 8.45.

Two half days a week I work from home (bliss). One day every couple of weeks I work 24h straight through but then I get the next day off.

It’s one of the reasons we moved.
