And what time do you leave in the morning?

I leave for the day at 7:20am and arrive home at 6:30pm. Working hours are 9-5. A lot of my time is spent waiting for public transport (trains mostly).

I feel like by the time I’ve got home I have no time to do anything! I’d love to leave be home earlier each day, but I wonder whether it’s ever possible (I work in the city) and what the norm is for other FT workers on here.

I have always had a rule of leave at 8 home by 6 and these were the hours my nanny/childcare always worked.
Officially my working day is 8 hours and I do 830 to 1230 then 130 to 530 using my lunch break for errands and a change of scenery.

Depends on my hours for the day. But will usually be between 5.30-6.30

Leave at 8am, home normally between 4:30 and 6pm.

Leave the house just after 8, drop the kids at school. In work for 8.30. Leave work at 4.45, home around 5.

I wouldn’t want my day to be any longer. With a teen and tween the evenings are busy.

I drop the dc off at 7.30 get to work at 8am. Then leave work at 3.30, pick them up Alan’s get home at 4pm. I feel very blessed with my full time work hours and (minimal) commute.

BrokenWing · 29/01/2020 14:15

@plominoagain Leave at 4 , start at 7 . 100 mile each way commute and a 12 hour shift in between . Work full time , usually 6 shifts on and 4 days off .
And then finish at 7 , back by about 9.30

You couldn't pay me enough to work those hours.. Hope it is a job you love so much it is worth it.
Are you driving? That can't be safe.

Really not thought about it, but it is a long time spent commuting on public transport ..

Me : leave house at 7.20, bus then walk. Arrive at work 08:20, officially start time 08:45 so have time for a bit of breakfast.

After Work : leave at 16:45 - 17:00...walk then bust at 17:30, home for 18:00

So basically every week day I add on over two hours for a 9 - 5 job.

10 hours a week spent commuting

40 hours - One flipping week! - a MONTH commuting.

That is scary.

I leave at 6.45 (start at 7.30) and finish at 4, getting in at 4.45. I work a 9 day fortnight so the day off every two weeks really makes it worth it for me. I'm much more alert early in the morning and love finishing at 4 - in my old job I did 8-6 with an hour's commute either end. It was bad. I really think employers should contribute financially towards their employees' commutes. Used to really piss me off that I spent upwards of two hours a day of my free time commuting to and from work and I'd have to pay £250 a month for the privilege!
