To ask those who work FT, what time do you get home everyday?

And what time do you leave in the morning?

I leave for the day at 7:20am and arrive home at 6:30pm. Working hours are 9-5. A lot of my time is spent waiting for public transport (trains mostly).

I feel like by the time I’ve got home I have no time to do anything! I’d love to leave be home earlier each day, but I wonder whether it’s ever possible (I work in the city) and what the norm is for other FT workers on here.

Leave at 8 most mornings.

Home around 6;45 on a good day. It can be much later. Last night it was 9:15. Once so far this year it has been 1am.

Settlersofcatan · 28/01/2020 08:16

My DH and I alternate drop offs and pick ups - so some days I leave at 7:30 and am home for 5pm, some days 8ish and home 7ish.

MangoM · 28/01/2020 08:17

I'm on maternity leave now, but when I was working I did

6.30 leave home
7.15 start work
30 minutes lunch break
3.45 finish work
4.30 back home

Standard office hours are 9-5 but my company is very accommodating of flexible working so I agreed early hours with my manager as that's what I prefer. Funny thing is, the rest of my team like to start and finish late (sometimes not arriving until 11!) so I'll get a good 3-4ish hours of quiet undisturbed time every morning.

Biancadelrioisback · 28/01/2020 08:18

Leave at 7:30am and home by 6

ch3rrycola · 28/01/2020 08:18

Leave 1.20pm start at 2pm
Home 10.20pm finish at 10pm
I cycle to and from work

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 28/01/2020 08:20

I don’t do full time but the 4 days I work are full days. I leave the the house at 745 and am home for 530pm

The travel takes about an hour each way. It would only be 35 mins if I didn’t have to drop DS off and pick him up from school, which is in opposite direction to station

I do this 3 days but work at home on the fourth. Hoping they are going to introduce more home working soon

WhatWouldPennyDo · 28/01/2020 08:20

I commute into the City and my ‘contracted hours’ are 9.30 - 5.30 with an hour for lunch.

Generally I leave at about 7.30am, 90 min commute (includes a walk when I get to London so I get 3.5k steps in each way, and I either deal with emails from colleagues on different time zones or do ‘life admin’). Have c30 mins when I get in to get ready for the day, have breakfast etc.

Generally leave at 6ish, home by 7.45, unless I run back from the station which adds 20 mins. Use the commute for emails to family and friends, Facebook, shopping online or just reading.

Always WFH at least once a week. Sometimes need to log on in the evening and weekends. Once a week leave early for a sports class, but fit in other exercise around work and the weekend.

I work very efficiently to minimise longer hours than would normally be expected in my role. Hours v different when I travel for work, I have events, or when we have a big deal on, but trusted to deal with that in a way that works for me and them. I am now unashamedly ruthless about what I say yes or no to in terms of invitations. We outsource almost all domestic chores save for cooking.

Parky04 · 28/01/2020 08:20

Leave at 7.00 and get home at 16.30.

JaffaCakeGal · 28/01/2020 08:25

I leave 8:15/9 (depending on if I'm running late!) and home 6/6:15 IF I go straight home. But I usually go straight to exercise classes etc, so some nights it would be 10:30 before I get home. If I went home straight from work I wouldn't do half the stuff I do, I'd just end up lolling on the couch!

soberfabulous · 28/01/2020 08:27

I leave at 7 am and get back at 7 pm.

I completely hear you on being stretched for time. There is basically two hours between 7-9 pm for me to fit everything in my life into.

It's hard.

Don't read the thread on here asking for people's average days: so many people don't work and take naps during the day Smile

Rowgtfc72 · 28/01/2020 08:28

Get home at 230pm. Start work at 6am but leave the house at ten past five. Half hour commute on my push bike each way. I have afternoons free and weekends. Drawbacks are Dh works opposite shifts so we only get ten minutes a day with each other and my 12 year old tucks me into bed at 9pm each night!

WeaselsKingHenry · 28/01/2020 08:30

About the same as you OP, but only on my office days. I work 50% from home and it keeps me sane!

icannotremember · 28/01/2020 08:31

If I leave on time, about 7ish, but I rarely leave on time.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 28/01/2020 08:31

I worked ridiculously close to my house when I was working FT so I'd leave about 7:45, drop DS at nursery for 8, be in the office for 8:20 and work until 5pm, pick DS up at 5:20 and home by 5:45.

Appreciate this isn't the norm though!

Sausagewrole · 28/01/2020 08:36

Leave home between 6 and 6.30, in office for 7.30.

Leave anytime between 5pm and 8pm, depending on workload and deadlines. Home between 6 and 9.

The days are long, but usually fly by. Lots of short term deadlines to meet so always in that mild panic mode! Can involve weekend and late nights at times.

It’s good though, I really enjoy my work and between jobs we usually have a couple of quiet days whilst waiting for the next project to kick off.

My boss is happy for us to work from home those days, which in reality means checking emails a few times a day and doing some admin.

I also work from home at least once a week which makes a big difference.

SurferRona · 28/01/2020 08:36

Leave 7.30 am, back 7.30-8.30 pm. Hour commute by train into city. And yep, is a long ole day. All of life has to be done at the weekends!

jennymac31 · 28/01/2020 08:38

I tend to leave home at 7.15am to drop DD off at breakfast club before starting work at 8am. I usually get home between 5pm and 5.15pm once I've picked DD. If I'm doing drop off & pick up of my youngest then I tend to leave home at 7.25am and get home just before 5pm.

user1483387154 · 28/01/2020 08:40

leave at 06.15
start by 06.45
finish about 16.00
home by 16.15

LadyR77 · 28/01/2020 08:43

I leave the house at 7:50am, drop DS at breakfast club at school and then pop to a shop on the way to work to buy lunch/snacks. I'm usually at my desk before 8:30am. I leave at 5pm, pick DS up from the childminder and then we get home around 5:20pm.

Mintjulia · 28/01/2020 08:44

Leave 7.30am, drop boys at school bus, in work by 8.15, seldom have lunch, leave work at 5, collect boys, home by 5.45.

But I’ve chosen to take a local job on 20% less pay than if I commuted. I save about £8,000 by not commuting, and gain 2 hours a day. It works for me.

BlueJava · 28/01/2020 08:47

Leave at 6:30am, get into office around 8:20am. Leave anywhere between 5:00pm and 7:30pm and takes me about 1.5 hours to commute back home.

GaaaaarlicBread · 28/01/2020 08:50

I work 9am-4pm . I leave at 8:45 to walk to work and get home 4:15. Very lucky I live walking distance to my job and so does my husband . He works shifts , 8am-6pm , 8am-8:45pm etc but luckily the short walk helps and doesn’t make the day drag too much . When we lived outside the city it was a much longer day due to getting public transport .

BammBamm · 28/01/2020 08:52

Currently leave around 9 and home around 6:30/7.
We're moving so this will extend 15 minutes each way.

OccasionalNachos · 28/01/2020 08:53

On mat leave at the moment but would leave 7:20, arrive work by 8, technically start at 8:30 but my office hours culture is quite flexible so if I had an early meeting or the phones were already ringing then I would count as starting from 8am.

Leave between 5 and 5:45, get home between 6 and 6:45 if going straight home.

Travelling on public transport - mostly train, sometimes bus.

Cineraria · 28/01/2020 08:54

DH, DS and I used to leave home at about 7:10 for work/nursery and get home at 6:15. DS went to nursery 8:30-5 and I worked ten minutes away from there, so worked 8:45-4:45 and DH did similar hours to DS. He could actually have left half an hour later but liked to travel with us, especially when I was pregnant again. I enjoyed our commute together at the time but I'm really enjoying a break from it after having the younger one.
