To ask those who work FT, what time do you get home everyday?

Vilanelleisreal · 28/01/2020 07:59

And what time do you leave in the morning?

I leave for the day at 7:20am and arrive home at 6:30pm. Working hours are 9-5. A lot of my time is spent waiting for public transport (trains mostly).

I feel like by the time I’ve got home I have no time to do anything! I’d love to leave be home earlier each day, but I wonder whether it’s ever possible (I work in the city) and what the norm is for other FT workers on here.

I leave at 7.30am and home at 8pm. I work 8.30am-7pm.

DeathMetalMum · 28/01/2020 22:13

Leave 8.30 home by 5.45 hours 9-5.30. We're luckily out the door on the dot the majority of the time. I also travel the opposite way to most of traffic both ways and my drive home is also all left turns and only one set of traffic lights. It takes me about 12 minutes travelling home and about 20 minutes there.

missjaysays · 28/01/2020 22:14

I leave home at about 7:45 at get to work a little after 8.

leave work at about 15:50ish and get home around 16:15

I work 8-4 but my office is super chill, we have no management at my clinic and they don't care so much as long as we're all on top of our caseloads.

I like the flexibility.

KindKylie · 28/01/2020 22:21

I leave the house around 7.15/20 to get dc to cm for 7.30, aim to be in work around 8. I leave at 5/5.10 and am normally home with kids collected by 5.45.

I'm changing my hours so I can do 2 shorter days and some wfh to try and beat the traffic as it feels like such wasted time!

Phipho · 28/01/2020 22:21

Why does anyone live in London? Move, it's a shit hole.

nancyclancy123 · 28/01/2020 22:34

I leave my house at 8am and I’ll usually home by 4:15pm. I work 5 days a week, term time only.

Snog · 28/01/2020 23:02

DH leaves the house at 8am and returns at 6pm.
He has a five minute commute and his working hours are 8.05am - 5.55pm

getupnow · 28/01/2020 23:06

I'm not full time but in London, my commute is a 15min slow walk.

maddening · 29/01/2020 00:07

When working at office Leave home at 8, drop ds at breakfast club around 8.20, park up at work around 8.40.
If straight home after work then I get in around 5.30.

Twice a week I got to the gym and then an exercise class straight from work and get in around 8:45pm

Tomorrow I am wfh so get home from breakfast drop off around 8:45 and finish at 5pm

ChristmasCarcass · 29/01/2020 00:15

I live a ten minute walk from work, so leave the house st 8:15 for an 8:30 start, and usually get home around 18:30 (finish work around 6, then spend a bit of time logging off, putting my coat on etc). On compressed hours, so on my long days it’s closer to 11pm.

So much better than previous jobs! I had a twelve month secondment to Stevenage in 2011 (from South London), and I used to leave the house around 6am, and still would often get in after 9 if the trains were messed up. I left at 5pm once, and didn’t get into King’s Cross until after 2am (signal failure or something, stuck on a train just outside Finsbury Park for literally eight hours. The crew had to give out free food and drink). Then back again at 6am. Horrendous, horrendous commute. And we were short staffed, so I was working my arse off when I was actually at work as well.

RubysRoo · 29/01/2020 02:36

I leave for work at 7:45 and am usually at my desk by 8:30 (35 minute drive, 10 min walk). I leave by 2 pm to do school pick up at 3, but then I work 2 hours from home every evening and/or hours on the weekend from home. I'm very thankful I'm allowed to do this.

Prior to this I negotiated at my old job working 7:30-3 Tuesdays and off Fridays (doing 2-3 hours from home by email) and then 7:30-4:30 M/W/Thur.

I have had great luck over the last decade at being able to negotiate at all 3 jobs doing hours differently. Prior to that it was terrible. I'm so thankful I'm hopefully past that.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 29/01/2020 03:15

I leave home at 7 15 and get home around 7. Work hours 9 to 5 30 buy I like to get in by 8 15 so that I get a little while to myself before the hordes arrive. I don't take a lunch break but do usually take one or two 10 minute walks to clear my head. I leave by 5 45 must days.

I like my job, and I am the boss so have to set a good example, but also to be there for the early and later birds.

Bluesheep8 · 29/01/2020 06:10

Leave home at 7:00
In the office for 7:45
Half an hour lunch
Finish At 4pm
Home for 4:45.

Fivetillmidnight · 29/01/2020 06:20

My full time contract is 36 hours which I work over 4 days. However as I am on 'detached duty' my day starts as I leave home and end when I get back.
So leave home at 8 arrive at work at 9 have half hour lunch and leave at 4.30 arrive home 5.30 and never work on Mondays. (They pay my mileage to get to work too !)

Jammysod · 29/01/2020 06:21

Leave at 6:30, home at 6ish.

PlumsGalore · 29/01/2020 06:23

Finish at 5, commute takes 12 seconds down two flights of stairs 😀

curiousierandcouriser · 29/01/2020 06:35

Leave the house around 7:00am and return between 5:00 - 5:30pm most days. Working hours are 7:30-4:00 (I'm a teacher at an international school).

curiousierandcouriser · 29/01/2020 06:36

Forgot to add that my commute is 15 min by taxi or 20min by bike.

Rezie · 29/01/2020 06:37

In winter
Leave home around 8.25
Back home around 5.30

In summer
Leave home around 8.30
Back home about 5.10

This is the general schedule but sometimes go earlier and sometimes stay later.

EnidBlyton · 29/01/2020 06:38

I leave home at 8.30 and am home at 6.00 pm
It looks like I am lucky

christmasathome · 29/01/2020 06:41

I leave at 8 to drop my kids at their schools and usually in work for 8.40. My dh picks them up so I can work as long as I like. Usually work till 5.30/6.00 and my drive home is less than 10 mins. Except on a Friday as I pick the youngest up so leave at 3. I'm going to miss my early finishes on a Friday when she starts big school in September.

runescape · 29/01/2020 06:42

Out 7.30am
Back 6.30pm
I’m an intern

Polly111 · 29/01/2020 06:49

For those that get home after 6, what do you do for childcare as most are closed at that time? Also how do you manage to fit in homework and reading? Or does your partner do that.

Wolfff · 29/01/2020 07:03

Out at 6.45-7 back between 4 and 5. I work a 36 hour week and take 30 min lunch. Get to work 7.45-8 and leave between 3-4pm. Occasionally stay late and leave 6pm-7pm. Commute is up to an hour.

Working flexi was an absolute godsend when my kids were young. I could start work at 6.30am and leave at 3pm. DH could get them up and to school and I could collect in the afternoon. I worked quite locally then.

Parker231 · 29/01/2020 07:07

Polly111 - nursery/after school club was open until 6. DH dropped off and I collected. Read whilst they were in bed and ignored homework until they left primary.
