To ask those who work FT, what time do you get home everyday?

And what time do you leave in the morning?

I leave for the day at 7:20am and arrive home at 6:30pm. Working hours are 9-5. A lot of my time is spent waiting for public transport (trains mostly).

I feel like by the time I’ve got home I have no time to do anything! I’d love to leave be home earlier each day, but I wonder whether it’s ever possible (I work in the city) and what the norm is for other FT workers on here.

Leave home a bit before 6am, at work by 6.30.
Leave work anytime between 2-3 depending how I feel/busy/calls.
Home by 3-4 latest or I might stop at the gym a few times a week which would see me home by about 6.30

But also WFH several days a week where my day can start/finish anytime.

I don't need to do those hours, its almost entirely to avoid my commute being doubled (duration and stress) if I travel in rush hour.

bengalcat · 28/01/2020 13:13

On average 7 - 7

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 28/01/2020 13:14

One thing that really helps me is that I travel against the (massive) flow of traffic into a big city too. The other side of the motorway can be standstill where I am flying along with about half a dozen other cars.

I consciously chose not to work in that city from an early stage of my career because of the commute (time and cost). Luckily it worked out well for me as my income is comparable with city salaries, once travel costs taken into account.

EnglishRain · 28/01/2020 13:15

7.30 and 4.30.

I live a mere 12 miles from work at the moment. Where I lived before it was 52 miles there and the same back. Could easily take me 1.5 hours AM and 2 hours PM.

SirTobyBelch · 28/01/2020 13:21

Usually leave around 7:30 am and get home around 7:30-8 pm. About 75 min each-way commute and about 9½ hours at work (approx 9-6:30).

elc19 · 28/01/2020 13:25

Leave the house at 7:15 and arrive home between 18:30-19:00 depending on traffic.

My working hours are 8:30-17:30 and I find it knackering to be doing a 12 hour day including travel times.

My ideal would be to start at 8:30 and finish at 4 so I could miss the traffic and be home in time to cook, have a shower and watch some TV/spend time with DH but I'm always so tired.

Being an adult is bloody hard work! I'd do anything to go back to school 😂

ArabellaDoreenFig · 28/01/2020 13:27

All these long days, little family time, little time for yourself - is it really worth it?

notforonesecond · 28/01/2020 13:36

I leave about 6am, work 7am - 3pm (30mins lunch) and am home about 3.50pm

It’s flexi time with no core hours though so I can manipulate those hours however I like really, stay later if I’m busy or leave earlier if I want to etc but I mostly stick to those times.

TheTea · 28/01/2020 13:41

Leave 7:45-8, home for 4:20 generally. I drive and its about a 15-20 min communte.

Tweetypie6 · 28/01/2020 13:42

Leave 7:40am return 5:15

Alarae · 28/01/2020 13:49

Leave at 7:45 and get home any time between 4:45 and 6:30, depending on whether I'm busy that day.

My working hours are 8 - 4:30 with an hour for lunch. My office is about 10 mins drive away.

Normally I'll leave and get home at 5pm as being over 36 weeks I don't feel like hanging around late anymore!

viknow · 28/01/2020 13:52

I try and do 8-4 to avoid traffic. Can be home by 4:30 if everything lines up.

I'll be working out of London next month - commute will probably be 3 times as long. Dreading it.

SquigglePigs · 28/01/2020 13:53

I often work from home but if I'm in the office then it's leave the house about 8, into office by 8.30 including nursery drop off, then leave office by 5 and home by 5.30 including pick up. If I can I try to do shorter days in the office so I can leave at 4.30 and be home with DD by 5. I do 8 hr days + 0.5 hr lunch. I'm lucky with how close I live to my office though.

midnightmisssuki · 28/01/2020 13:54

415/430pm.

Oblomov20 · 28/01/2020 13:54

I only do a 9-3, or an 8-4 with 10 -15 minute commute. I'm not prepared to do more.

midnightmisssuki · 28/01/2020 13:55

^^ sorry I start anytime a after 815am.

Cath2907 · 28/01/2020 13:57

I work full time from home. I leave the house at 8:15 to walk my DD to her Aunts for a lit in to school and to take the dog round the block. I get back home by 9am and start work 9 - 9:15am. I work until 5 or 6pm (DD gets dropped home around 15:45 and pops in my office for a chat and to beg for snack!) I don't take a lunch break but I do take a break at around 2 or 3 to take the dog out for half an hour.

Oct18mummy · 28/01/2020 13:57

7.30am till 6.45ish also work in city and rely on train can get to my home/desk in one hour exactly if everything aligns

Hester54 · 28/01/2020 14:00

Work 8-5 leave home 7-50 walk to work, home by 5-10,
I earn less but have an easier life, it’s not all about the money, quality of life is more important sometimes

Hotseat · 28/01/2020 14:25

Leave at 6am, home at 4pm 15 minute commute against the traffic. Dinner, laundry, general clean up, bed at 9.30/10pm. Still no time to myself.

JosieB68 · 28/01/2020 14:39

Start at 8, short drive to work so leave at 0745, finish at half 4 so home for 1645 each night.

HellsBills · 28/01/2020 14:41

Feeling very lucky (hope that doesn't sound smug!) We left the city 5 years ago. Kept my civil service job but now work from a small area office or from home. We all leave house 8:40. In work for 9am. Either myself or husband collect kids all home by 5:30 latest. Pay off is I do 2 days in London with an over night stay approx once a month (but usually less often). Before moving I hated dropping kids in nursery at 8am, collecting at 6 and getting home just in time to put them to bed. The move has been really good for us, but can see it wouldn't work for everyone, especially if job can't be transferred.

WardrobeJumper · 28/01/2020 14:51

Home at 5:45

DontMakeMeShushYou · 28/01/2020 14:56

Leave at 8am and home at 8.30pm. It's a longish commute by car. My hours are 9.30-7.00 but that's because they're compressed so I only do 4 days at work.

notacooldad · 28/01/2020 15:01

My working pattern varies so much. However I always try to avoid gig I for 9 and finishing at 5. I'd rather start at 8 or 10 or finish at 4 or 6. Outside these times it takes about 12 mins to get to work. In these times it can take over 20 mins. I wish cold cycle or walk but I am an essential car user.
