To ask those who work FT, what time do you get home everyday?

Vilanelleisreal · 28/01/2020 07:59

And what time do you leave in the morning?

I leave for the day at 7:20am and arrive home at 6:30pm. Working hours are 9-5. A lot of my time is spent waiting for public transport (trains mostly).

I feel like by the time I’ve got home I have no time to do anything! I’d love to leave be home earlier each day, but I wonder whether it’s ever possible (I work in the city) and what the norm is for other FT workers on here.

I leave at 6.45am and get home at about 6.00pm. I work 8.00am to 4.45pm

BillThePony · 28/01/2020 09:48

I drive to work and leave between 7.45-8.30 depending on my appointments for the day.

I leave anything from 4-5.30 again depending on what o have scheduled. Finish at 3 on a Friday.

At the moment I am a 10 min drive but when I move will be around 30 mins

1990shopefulftm · 28/01/2020 09:55

i do 8 hour shifts that can be anything between 8-4 and 11-7, it's about 20 minutes walk one way so I have a decent amount of time left in the day to do things.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 28/01/2020 09:58

Leave home at 7, start work at 8, finish around 6 and home by 7-7.30.

Damntheman · 28/01/2020 11:15

I leave home at 7.20am and I'm usually back home again at 16.15, but I also drop and collect my oldest at school as well. If I didn't have to do that then I could drop 15 minutes from the commute each way.

MotherWol · 28/01/2020 11:17

Leave around 8.45, arrive around 9.30, doing the nursery drop-off on the way. Tend to leave the office by 5.15, do nursery pick-up, home just before 6.

Work in central London (Z1), commuting by bike, living fairly centrally (z1-2 border).

JammieCodger · 28/01/2020 11:26

Work in central London, live in zone 3, cycle to work.

Leave home at 8:30, at my desk by 9:15. Leave work around 6:15/6:30, home by 7:00.

I only work one long day a week in the office though. I work from home 9 to 5:30 one day a week, and do three short days when I get home around 3:30.

FreiasBathtub · 28/01/2020 11:29

God this is comforting.

I usually try to leave the house by 7.30 (often more like 7.45), and am usually home by 6. Have been feeling some guilt about the time I (don't) spend with kids, having just returned to work from my second mat leave and gone to a much more demanding full time job. But I love the work and they're very flexible, I do a couple of days a week from home which really makes all the difference. I definitely wouldn't cope otherwise.

We have a nanny two days a week which assuages my guilt somewhat: the other days I have to factor in a nursery drop-off which adds about 30 mins to my commute - we moved house recently and none of the local nurseries had space for DS.

Commute itself is c.35 mins but on the Central line so not wildly reliable. And there's a 20 minute walk at the home end and 10 mins at the work end. It's a slog, but good for my step count!

MaggieAndHopey · 28/01/2020 11:31

I leave at 8am and get back home at 4.30pm. I work 8.30 - 4 with a half hour lunch break. I have flexible hours so I could start earlier or later if I wanted but this is what suits me best.

JaceLancs · 28/01/2020 11:34

I work locally but can choose my own hours
Normally leave home around 7.30/8 and get back 6.30/7
I start cooking straight away and eat around 7.30/8 by time eaten, washed up etc it’s normally 9 and go to bed around 11
I usually keep stuff tidy and may put on a load of washing
I have a cleaner 2 hours a week and keep on top of other stuff like ironing, gardening etc Sunday PM

Chesntoots · 28/01/2020 11:54

For some of my shifts I leave at 6.15 and get back about 22.30...can't wait to leave in a few years

MrsJonesAndMe · 28/01/2020 12:32

DH works locally which I thinks make the difference - it's a 2.5 mile commute! So finishes at 4:45 and home by 5!

I WFH so no commute, generally finished by 5:30.

PrimeraVez · 28/01/2020 12:33

Office hours are 8-5

Leave home around 7.30 and drop DS1 at school on my way
Get home 5.15 ish

I drive

PrimeraVez · 28/01/2020 12:35

PS - meant to say, we live overseas and one of the biggest things that puts me off moving back to the UK (and inevitably having to commute into central London each day) is knowing that I would be leaving home super early each morning and getting home late each night, most likely missing school drop off and bedtime for my youngest.

floffel · 28/01/2020 12:35

Leave at 6.50 am. Home at 7.30pm

SomewhereInbetween1 · 28/01/2020 12:35

Work 8 until 4. Leave home at 7.15am and usually home by 5pm.

Doobydoo · 28/01/2020 12:38

Work 3 days a week..07.00 to 19.30. Leave at 06.20 back around 20.00.

Glassio · 28/01/2020 12:40

leave at 7.30 and get home at 5. my drive takes about 30 mins - in NE england just recently moved from london where it took me nearer and hour commute or 2 sometimes. so glad to be out of it!

MurrayTheMonk · 28/01/2020 12:41

Leave at 8.15, back before 6 most days and more usually 5.30. Live in a ritual area and work in a nearby town.

Gogolego · 28/01/2020 12:41

I leave house at 7:50 get home at 4:15. If I come straight home, I normally go the shops or something first. So it rarely happens. 3:45 on a Friday

I start work at 8 finish at 4

Doobydoo · 28/01/2020 12:41

I din't drive yet so dp takes and collects me. Ds2 comes as well and the hounds!

MondeoFan · 28/01/2020 12:44

Been covering other hours since new year , leaving 7.30 home by 5pm

Much prefer it and dreading going back end of feb Sad suits me so much more!!!

Longdistance · 28/01/2020 12:54

I leave at 9am for a 9.30 start. Finish at 5.30pm and dm home just before 6. Dds are in ASC until 6, so if I have to pick them up I slide in on the seat of my pants.
My commute is by car to the next town in another county.

BrimfulofSasha · 28/01/2020 13:05

My working hours are 8ish to 5ish (flexi-time contracted 9-5.30 but busy project)
I leave the house at 7.45 but dont get home until 8 most nights as DD has an activity every night of the week.

OH does school drop, I do pick up and clubs. (his twin office is in New york so makes sense for him to go in later and leave later)
I tend to batch cook on Sundays or OH cooks so we all eat as soon as we are home.
DD is 10 so bed at 9pm.

It's hectic but works well if we are organised. It also means we both get 1 on 1 time with DD.
OH loves having a chat and practising spellings with her in the mornings.
