To ask those who work FT, what time do you get home everyday?

And what time do you leave in the morning?

I leave for the day at 7:20am and arrive home at 6:30pm. Working hours are 9-5. A lot of my time is spent waiting for public transport (trains mostly).

I feel like by the time I’ve got home I have no time to do anything! I’d love to leave be home earlier each day, but I wonder whether it’s ever possible (I work in the city) and what the norm is for other FT workers on here.

Leave 8.25 to arrive at work 9.30, generally home 7 or 7.30. Need time to walk the dog before work!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 28/01/2020 08:56

I used to leave at 4:50 and get back at 9pm-ish, if I could leave work on time...

Then I took a local job but transport links were worse, so I'd leave at 6ish and get home for about 7:30pm.

Currently I work from home, which is lovely, but has it's own stresses! I'm not sure 7:30pm is too bad, especially now the days stay lighter. It's probably worth reframing it in in your head.

OurChristmasMiracle · 28/01/2020 08:57

Leave at 7. Home by 5 IF I don’t go gym. Days I go gym home by around 8.

I walk to and from work (About 4 miles each way).

BakewellGin1 · 28/01/2020 08:59

I work 8.30am-5.00pm... Leave home at 7.50am (gives me 15 min to get diesal if needed or buy coffee on arrival and arrive home approx 5.25pm...

LurkerFinallyPosts · 28/01/2020 09:00

I leave at 6:45 and get home at 7:30 (working 9-5). But I commute from Oxfordshire to London.

Lolly86 · 28/01/2020 09:00

I'm a nurse doing long days/nights. I leave at 0630 to start work at 0730 finish at 203o and get home around 2145, or on a night leave around 1900 to start at 2000 and finish at 0800 and get home around 0915 (bus)

coffeeforone · 28/01/2020 09:00

I leave home at 7.30am, nursery drop off, commute into the city.

Working hours are 9.30 to 5.30

I try to leave work at 5.30 if possible then I get home by 7pm (DH picks up kids from nursery as he works more locally). If trains are delayed or I get stuck at work then could be home much later.

I know what you mean OP, I only see DC for max 30 mins before they go to bed then its a rush to have dinner and get a bit of sorting/laundry done etc.

But I like my job and it pays well. I love the weekends though!

FloraGreysteel · 28/01/2020 09:00

I work 8-4, leave home at c7.15 to walk to work and get home at about 5 (I often go to the shops on the way home). I live and work in central London, in a university.

ClientListQueen · 28/01/2020 09:01

Depends what shift
Leave at 8.45am, home for 6.20pm or leave at 7.15am and home for 5pm

Crunchymum · 28/01/2020 09:02

Leave at 8.30 (but do school run) arrive at work 9.30.

Finish at 5pm and home by 5.30pm.

I'm a half hour walk from my office.

Vulpine · 28/01/2020 09:02

One and a half hour commute in a city is rather loong. Have you considered cycling?

whitenblk · 28/01/2020 09:05

I leave at 7am and get home about 730pm earliest. That's if I don't work late which I often do. Also London and commuter!

Coffeetime989 · 28/01/2020 09:06

Used to work as a teacher, would leave at 7:45am for work and be home at 5pm (on average)

Now in a office, if it's the one near my house I leave at 8:45 to drop DC off and am in for 9:30, leave at 5:30 and am home for 6 unless I go shopping on the way home. One further away, I leave at 8:15, DC go to breakfast club and am home for 7.

Work are flexible with start and end times as long as you work the core hours and accommodate any meeting requests within reason and with reasonable notice, the one I was once sent at 7:45 expecting me to be there for 8:30 not so much!

Really would struggle without DM picking up the oldest DC in particular as their primary school has no after school provision and consequently childminders for that period have massive waiting lists.

DelurkingAJ · 28/01/2020 09:06

Leave at 8, back at 6. An hour or so either way. Turned down roles in London because it would be 1.5 hours if the trains worked...may change my mind when DC are older but currently in a fab role with career progression not affected.

timeforawine · 28/01/2020 09:06

Leave at 8, do drop off at nursery which is around 10 mins, usually parking up around 8:40, in the office by 8:45.
Leave anywhere between 4:45-5:30 depending how busy me/my husband is (work in the same office) then takes about 35 mins to get to nursery at that time of night
I try and do at least 1 day a week WFH

Cornishmendoitdrekkly · 28/01/2020 09:13

Leave home at 7.20 am so I am in school for 8. School finishes at 3.30pm but I do all my work in school so leave at 6.00pm and get home by 6.45pm. I used to leave earlier when my children were younger, but now find I enjoy having the rest of my evening free from school work.

ColourMyDreams · 28/01/2020 09:13

I leave at 21.45, arrive at 21.55. coming home I leave at 08.00 and get home at 08.10.
I work nights and walk to work and back.

VideographybyLouBloom · 28/01/2020 09:16

I don't work full time but do 24 hours in 3 days. I leave home at 6.40ish to take DC to the childminder. 7am train into London. Start work at 8am. Finish work at 4.30pm and usually home by 5.30pm.

WorraLiberty · 28/01/2020 09:21

I work a mix of full-time and part-time.

When I'm doing a 9 to 5, I leave at 9.15 and get home about 5.15 but I'm lucky enough to live a 6 minute walk away from where I work.

wanderwonderwanderwonder · 28/01/2020 09:28

I leave at 7am to go to go to the gym, showered, parked and at my desk by 8:30, I work until 5:15pm and get home about 5:45pm. I do slightly longer days with a 30 minute lunch so do full time hours over a 9 day fortnight. It's nice.

CherryPavlova · 28/01/2020 09:28

I work a mix of home, office and away but am officially a home worker.
On office days I catch the 7:30 train, so leave home around 7:00. I get back about 6:30 and home by 7:00, assuming trains are OK.

When away working we do longer days. 07:30 start (occasionally earlier 6:00am) and finish around 8:pm (but sometimes 11:00pm). That’s only a couple of days a month though.

When at home I start about 9:00 or 9:30 and finish about 5:15 unless I have something that needs finishing off or an early/late meeting.

CalamityJune · 28/01/2020 09:30

Leave at 6.15am and get back usually around 5.30pm.

It is really draining. I find it hard to get the motivation to exercise when i've been sitting in the car for so long

mindutopia · 28/01/2020 09:36

2-3 days a week I commute into London. Leave the house to catch train at 6:25 and get home usually at 7pm. Sometimes I have a meeting or teaching til later so it’s 8.

Usually other 1 day a week but sometimes 2, I work from home so start at 9, finish 2:45-3:45 depending on school run.

I have Fridays off so that doesn’t count.

U2HasTheEdge · 28/01/2020 09:38

I leave the house at 08.30 most days.

I get home between 16.45- 18.30.

I run my own diary so I can be flexible within reason. My contracted hours are 9-5, however if I work late I might come in late, depending on what I have got on.

shumway · 28/01/2020 09:45

I get the 7.25 bus or the 7.50 bus. Start work at 8.45. Leave work at 5.20. Usually home by 6.30 unless the bus is late.
