Hi there,

You may or may not know that a few years ago, Mumsnet users helped Dreams create the ‘Mumsnet Mattress’ by telling them exactly what they wanted from a mattress. A group of Mumsnet users were involved all the way through, from developing the concept to the final product arriving in the store.

We want to work with brands to make more ‘Mumsnet’ products that make parents’ lives easier, and that’s where we’d like your help please. Where do you think there’s a gap in the market for the perfect...what? Is it the perfect nursing bra? Or maternity jeans? Or family-friendly car? What haven’t we thought of that doesn’t exist yet?!

Whatever product you think could be improved (or created) to make your life easier, please tell us below and we’ll do what we can to try and make it a reality.

Thanks - MNHQ

A bits of tissue from the washing remover

Size 9 narrow fit attractive shoes. Everywhere seems to assume if you have long feet they're wide too

@constantuser "A car windscreen that doesn't suffer from condensation or ice. Or a heater that gets rid of it very quickly."

I have an old car that has no AC and very slow heaters. I have improved the condensation issue a LOT by having an open tub of rice and salt in the car (actually two as there is a bit of a leak too!) . Same principle as those dehumidifier things you can get in the pound shop.

You can see how the salt absorbs the moisture and clumps up and there is a lot less condensation now.

toomuchlikemyusername "For car manufacturers to do something about daytime running lights. Ever since these became a thing, I've seen more and more cars on the road, in poor light and visibility conditions with no rear lights on at all because the person at the wheel thinks that the daytime running lights have got it covered. They haven't. No one can see you from behind."

A thousand times yes! The number of days I have spent considering reviewing my dashcam footage and then putting up a list on MN to alert people with those models, who are clearly totally unaware they are invisible from the back.

A portable hammock with a folding, sturdy base. I love hammocks!

A food replicator like on StarTrek

A device like the Babel Fish in the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy so you completely understand every language. How cool would that be?

nogooddeedgoesunpunished · 23/01/2020 10:33

A gadget bit like a back scratcher/ roller that can apply body lotion to your back ( for those who live alone). I admit to occasionally asking DS aged 3 but his application technique is a little slap dash

A heated torso that mimics the movement of walking so I can strap my newborns to it in their sling and have 5 minutes without being touched by SOMEONE. I have a 5yo, 2yo and newborn twins and they are all incredibly clingy and I'd love to have a wee in peace GAH!

Automatic unlock on front/back door like a car door so you can undo easily with babies, toddlers, shopping, stuff.
A beeper function on remote controls, keys so if you lose them you can whistle and it will light up and beep.
Suitcases that will self move/follow beside you - maybe to a keyring or mob app control
A DH that leaves the place tidy!
Touch screen inbuilt to fridge for messages

  • there are remote locks already available I think. Or at least ones you just have to touch (like workplace security passes)

A beeper function on remote controls, keys so if you lose them you can whistle and it will light up and beep.

  • Did you miss the whole 1980s where whistle-keyring-finders were the rage? Grin

Suitcases that will self move/follow beside you - maybe to a keyring or mob app control

  • I saw an ad for a suitcase that does exactly that:

A DH that leaves the place tidy!

  • can't help you there. Get a robot one instead?

Touch screen inbuilt to fridge for messages

  • Smart fridges already exist. They can add to shopping lists, show you what's inside etc. Messaging capability is either already also available or easy to add on.

A lego sorter, one that sucks all the pieces up and sorts them in to colour/shape however you store your lego, ideally it sucks it all up from all around the house not just the vicinity.

Vik1ng · 23/01/2020 12:23

For years I’ve been saying to my DH that they should design a hoover that doesn’t collect tangled hair in the roller brush. And shark have now brought a version out! I would buy it in a heartbeat if my own shark wasn’t only a year old. It’s on sale too :(

A really attractive muslin housecoat type thing, that mums of small (sicky) babies could quickly slip on and off over their normal clothes, so that when baby is at the stage of chucking up every feed they don't have to change outfits umpteen times a day or drape muslin cloths grimly over one's shoulder. Would need to be absorbent, lightweight, comfortable and stylish (I'm thinking kimono rather than Dot Cotton), easily washable and tumble-dryable. Maybe a partnership with designers for some cool, non-cutesie prints?

An easy to clean toilet, no slots and cracks and holes impossible to access, same goes for toilet seats.

AlphaNumericalSequence · 23/01/2020 13:21

Tiny travelators on your kitchen floor, parallel to (and close to) work surfaces, so that when you are cooking, etc., you can more easily move between kettle, cooker, fridge, spice rack, cupboard, etc.

There would have to be two - one for each direction. And there would have to be enough space between them for you to jump off and stand still at each required spot.

This means they would have to be very narrow, but in marketing terms this would be a bonus because they could be promoted as improving balance and agility.

There are probably a few technical issues to sort out, but I'm a concepts person. I have stated my visionary innovation and I'm sure some sort of minion could flesh it out with details. Move fast, Mumsnet or I'm taking it to the Dragons' Den.

KeepThosePlatesSpinning · 23/01/2020 13:27

A buggy that folds up small enough for tiny car boots whilst having wheels big enough to manage cobbles without being a bone rattler. Or a buggy frame that works with a stage 1 / 2 card seat not the tiny baby one.

Rimless toilets are available - even B&Q have them. Wall-hung models also mean that you can easily clean the floor under the bowl.

theoriginalmadambee · 23/01/2020 14:31

@Havanananana could you link please, not in UK so don't know where/who to search Smile.

abitoflight · 23/01/2020 14:37

Re locating keys etc, friend has tags on hers that beep with an app on the phone

Havanananana · 23/01/2020 14:37

Here's an example, but you can just Google 'rimless toilet' for more.

www.grohe.co.uk/en_gb/for-your-bathroom/ceramics/euro-ceramics.html

Grohe products are available in Europe and worldwide.

OK Go were way ahead of you. Just get a couple of treadmills!

theoriginalmadambee · 23/01/2020 14:58

Thanks @Havanananana definitely going to look into that... eyeing annoying toilets here Grin.

justanothernameonthewall · 23/01/2020 15:37

A bin that you can use for different types of recycling, food waste and compacts you landfill into bricks that can be used (they have been used in construction etc). Btw, do I get copywrite on the idea???

OhTheTastyNuts · 23/01/2020 18:04

Something that would allow women to do their own cervical screening (at home, at the correct point in their cycle) - results could be sent off for analysis, as is done with the self testing for Group B Strep.

fligglepige · 23/01/2020 18:05

@Spanneroo have you seen the babocush?
