To think a 10 year old should eat crusts

My stepson is 11 in a few months and only eats the middle of his sandwiches and then is hungry 1 hour after lunch and grazes on snacks all day. I don't understand why, at nearly 11, he is having his crusts cut off or being allowed to leave them. Is this normal? Do lots of people leave their crusts? Fyi he doesn't have any problems with swallowing or have any allergies.

I am 54 and don't eat crusts.

Boys that age eat like horses. YABU

dementedpixie · 18/01/2020 14:26

A lot of people must be the same as you can buy crustless bread

QueenTaTe · 18/01/2020 14:26

My daughter doesnt eat crusts, I dont eat crusts Confused why make it into a big deal?

thejollyroger · 18/01/2020 14:27

This is on the list of small problems, isn’t it?

coconuttelegraph · 18/01/2020 14:27

Some people don't like crusts, no biggie

Eating the crusts wouldn't have any impact on when I was next hungry I don't think, maybe you need to up what you're feeding him in general.

nokidshere · 18/01/2020 14:27

Buy crustless bread?

LennyPugGoat · 18/01/2020 14:27

I never eat the crust

DartmoorChef · 18/01/2020 14:27

I dont eat crusts. Never have. And I'm 50.

And I have curly hair despite my mother telling me if I didn't eat them I wouldn't 😂😂😂

PerceptionIsReality · 18/01/2020 14:28

Are you looking for reasons to object to him?

Cornettoninja · 18/01/2020 14:28

Knocking 40 and don’t eat the crusts unless it’s a particularly nice bread.

Buy wraps.

FlibbertyGiblets · 18/01/2020 14:28

What else does he do that you find irritating?

milveycrohn · 18/01/2020 14:29

In my view, the crusts are the best bits.

Kaykay066 · 18/01/2020 14:29

I don’t neither do my kids....
Perhaps give him more to eat doesn’t have to be bad for him but as a mother of 4 sons who eat me out of house and home boys do eat a lot and are seem to be hungry 24/7.

Neverender · 18/01/2020 14:30

Doesn't really matter does it? As a teen I used to cut the middle bit our of bacon. DM used to say, "You won't do that when it's you buying the bacon"

I still do...

TwilightPeace · 18/01/2020 14:30

Why does it matter?

DioneTheDiabolist · 18/01/2020 14:30

I don't eat the crust on most bread.

thatonesmine · 18/01/2020 14:30

63 years of leaving my crusts and straight haired. Mum was right.

Reallynowdear · 18/01/2020 14:31

Crusts will not fill a child up.

The non eating of the crusts are not the reason he snacks all day.

It is perfectly normal to dislike crusts.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 18/01/2020 14:31

I hate crusts on bread and on pizza. Its not an age thing its a personal preference

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 18/01/2020 14:32

My mum’s in her 60’s and doesn’t eat crusts! Although I could see it being annoying if a child literally takes one bite out of the middle (as some do) and leaves the rest. Perhaps buy rolls / wraps / bagels / pitta for a change?

latheritup · 18/01/2020 14:32

I don't eat the crusts either!

AlrightyyThen · 18/01/2020 14:32

1 adult 2 DC household, the kids are hungry not long after they've eaten and we all give our crusts to the dog

YABU sorry

RollaCola84 · 18/01/2020 14:32

35, don't eat crusts and pretty much never have done. Accept when forced as a child. Funnily enough the things I was adamant I didn't like as a child and would only eat when made to I still don't like as an adult.

theSnuffster · 18/01/2020 14:33

I know adults who don't like crusts. My children will eat softer crusts but sometimes leave harder crusts. Doesn't bother me.

Pick your battles.

UndertheCedartree · 18/01/2020 14:33

Have you asked his dad why he 'allows' him to leave crusts?
To be honest if you literally just cut off the crusts it's not going to affect whether he's hungry an hour later. Why not make him 2 sandwiches and soup, fruit etc at lunch as well. If he snacks a lot and you're concerned about the snacks get lots of healthy snacks in. He's growing and hungry. I don't think crusts are much of an issue.
