On the Christmas gift swap thread, I arranged a gift swap on private messenger.

I posted my parcel on the 3rd Jan and was told my parcel would be posted within the next few days. I have not received anything as of yet. I have sent two private messages asking if my parcel had been delivered and that I had proof of postage if they needed it, and could I please have my proof of postage, as I think my parcel may have got lost.

AIBU to wonder if my parcel has not been posted yet?

To the person who I've sent my parcel to, please can you let me know when I can expect my parcel?

Thank you ☺️

omg - you are all so weird.

Dongdingdong · 28/01/2020 10:53

Sorry to hear this OP. Have you reported the username to MNHQ? You could at least get them banned (small consolation, I know...)

The OP says.... I have messaged MumsnetHQ who confirmed the lady hasn't been active since the beginning of January, so perhaps something has happened in her life.

She could be in hospital for all anyone knows.

@giftponderings Are they on mumsnet?

2020bluegirl · 28/01/2020 11:58

Sorry, I see she is. Silly me not reading second page of this thread. Blush

butterpuffed · 28/01/2020 12:02

If they've not been active on here since 1st Jan, perhaps something has happened in their life..why would you con someone for £10/15?
OTOH , they could have arranged a swap with several people...

2020bluegirl · 28/01/2020 12:05

Does seem odd to scam someone for £10-15, but then again, she could be doing it to dozens of people. Also, she has probably not been active since 1st Jan, because she it was a sock-puppet account, and she is done with it.

Name and shame @giftponderings ... who is the user? What's her username?

Have you sent your address to another stranger on the Internet? Please stop doing this.

This. ^

2020bluegirl · 28/01/2020 12:12

@RalphWiggumsWedgie

I tried to find that user on advanced search and it came up with 0 messages. Could it be that they have all been deleted?

Is this the one the OP is on about?

AndThenThereWereSeven · 28/01/2020 12:22

I'd look for your item on eBay OP.

DaveTheDesigner · 28/01/2020 12:28

It's probably been asked before but I do you have their address if you posted it? I'm sure someone near to them would volunteer to knock on a door for you.

heartsonacake · 28/01/2020 12:30

I'm sure someone near to them would volunteer to knock on a door for you.

DaveTheDesigner Awful advice, and so stalkery. OP has put herself in an unsafe and ridiculous situation through her own naivety, and one would hope this will teach her not to give her address to strangers on the internet.

ssd · 28/01/2020 12:31

Apologies for saying you were niave yesterday op. I hope you enjoy the gift another poster sent to you.

SmileyClare · 28/01/2020 12:34

Knock on a door? What is this madness? Grin and say what? Mumsnet are worried about you because you haven't posted under your username of MrsFanny (or whatever) since January?

I can't stop laughing at this absurd advice so thanks Dave.

ssd · 28/01/2020 12:36

Years ago, when mn did a secret santa, someone nominated me and my kids received a couple of lovely gifts and I received a gift voucher and a letter from another mnetter which I really appreciated. Another poster sent me a book which helped me grieving my mum, which I have now passed on to another mnetter in the same situation.
Years ago, giving out my address didn't worry me at all, now it rings alarm bells. I wonder if the world has changed that much. Or I'm just getting old.

GarlicSoup · 28/01/2020 12:37

I'd give it up as a bad job and let that be a lesson that people lie on the internet.

Who in their right mind would go round and confront a complete stranger because they allegedly failed to post a parcel to another complete stranger on the Internet?
People are so very, very weird...

Kalifa · 28/01/2020 12:46

So you put your faith in a total stranger to swap gifts with? Christ almighty!

heartsonacake · 28/01/2020 12:49

Years ago, giving out my address didn't worry me at all, now it rings alarm bells. I wonder if the world has changed that much.

ssd No, the world has not changed. The very strong advice from the very beginning was to never give your address to people on the internet. It should have worried you back then like it does now.

It really is just common sense. Yes, you may have been lucky over the years, but you were still very stupid and irresponsible to give your address to a total stranger.

AdobeWanKenobi · 28/01/2020 12:51

I do wonder whether removing the PM system altogether would be a better idea given the amount of completely irresponsible people on here.

BusterGonad · 28/01/2020 13:26

I wouldn't give my address out, but what could happen to the poster who does? I mean, you buy stuff on ebay and your address is sent over, if someone has your name they can easily look up your address, it's pretty easy to get someone's address if you want it. I know on mumsnet it's just a user name but I'm just wondering what heinous crimes have happened in the past? I'm just thinking that the op is getting a lot of stick for something which most probably is all going to be okay in the end.
