On the Christmas gift swap thread, I arranged a gift swap on private messenger.

I posted my parcel on the 3rd Jan and was told my parcel would be posted within the next few days. I have not received anything as of yet. I have sent two private messages asking if my parcel had been delivered and that I had proof of postage if they needed it, and could I please have my proof of postage, as I think my parcel may have got lost.

AIBU to wonder if my parcel has not been posted yet?

To the person who I've sent my parcel to, please can you let me know when I can expect my parcel?

Thank you ☺️

"Gently suggest she stops scamming people in the internet "
Oh ffs
Yeah that'll go well
[Hmm

Send them a glitter letter in the post!

hookiwooki · 18/01/2020 15:28

MNHQ always make it quite clear that no poster should give more of themselves than they would be prepared to lose - emotionally, financially or otherwise. Thus warning crops up frequently across the MN boards.

I believe the swap threads are no longer sanctioned by MNHQ for exactly this reason - not everyone is honest.

I expect that you'll just have to count your losses OP.

Ninkanink · 18/01/2020 15:31

It’s not a gift exchange like that, where you spend money on the item - it’s from the swap thread where you swap your unwanted Christmas gifts or calendar items. OP hasn’t spent money on buying a gift for a random person on MN.

@giftponderings Hopefully there’s just been an issue and you’ll get your parcel soon. Sadly not everyone is honest and decent - as you’ve said, you’ve done this before a few times and it’s been fine.

wotsittoyou · 18/01/2020 15:32

Let it go. It's not sensible to throw good time after bad money.

ffswhatnext · 18/01/2020 15:33

Although I love the name changeability, it is also a downside for when people get scammed on here. Name shaming is futile.

CassidyStone · 18/01/2020 15:41

@hobnobsaremyfave

Sarcasm never works with typed words on a screen, unfortunately. If you thought that was a serious comment, I can assure you it wasn't.

SlayB · 18/01/2020 15:48

What was it you were expecting just in case another honest trustworthy mumsnetter has one that they don't want. I used to do swaps on here and Secret santa on Twitter no problems. Also stickers swap has always turned up.
Sorry you got the bad apple Flowers

EnidBlyton · 18/01/2020 15:49

ok, but op, you thought you would swap your unwanted presents, but actually you have purely got rid of your unwanted present.
at least there is less stuff in your house on a positive note

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/01/2020 15:58

OP, go to your parcel office & ask if they have anything for your address (take i.d. with you). Sometimes the 'I had a parcel for you' cards go astray, e.g. left at the wrong address.

Bluntness100 · 18/01/2020 16:02

I a,so don't understand these swap threads, clearly everyone knows not everyone is genuine so you're always taking a risk.

And how can you name and shame on here? The person just needs to name change or start a new account. It's not like anyone knows who they are. Confused

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 18/01/2020 16:31

If you have her address, can you ask someone who lives nearby to call round?

Surely they'd have given a fake name/address, no?

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 18/01/2020 16:32

Oh no of course not, ignore me Blush

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/01/2020 17:17

Unless you live in Gretna and she's in Carlisle, I wouldn't put it past her to have carefully watched out for posters mentioning living in Scotland (or NI) and deliberately targeting them for this. She might live in Penzance and be thinking that she can scam Scots freely and nobody will bother to go to her house to confront her for the sake of £15.

It's a very sad way to live your life, if that is what she's done.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/01/2020 17:20

Was the promised gift a French bulhuahua?

FlibbertyGiblets · 18/01/2020 18:34

Ewww ugly.

gypsywater · 18/01/2020 18:37

But she knows you have her address? That's a bit dumb surely, how does she know you wont go round?

HisBetterHalf · 18/01/2020 18:42

Send them a glitter letter in the post!

or a nicely wrapped dog turd

BoredOfTheBoard · 18/01/2020 18:49

bingbangbing · 18/01/2020 18:53

You could send loads of takeaways, taxis, sign her up for junk mail etc?

reesewithoutaspoon · 18/01/2020 19:01

Wish people would stop saying send taxis and pizza's as revenge. you do realise the only people you are hurting there is the businesses that make the bloody pizza and then lose the cost of making and delivering and the taxi who loses a potential customer while he is going to a fake call.

CrohnicallyEarly · 18/01/2020 19:13

@reesewithoutaspoon you’re right, that would affect the businesses too much. Instead, I suggest the OP sign up the address to receive lots of junk mail, JW visits, and MLM huns.

raviolidreaming · 18/01/2020 19:18

Let's not forget that they also have OP's address, eh?
