(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

You cant polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter. Or stick gemstones on it. Either is good.

Katypyee · 16/01/2020 18:21

People seriously pay almost a grand for those sandals?! Wow.

And who on earth spends that much as a gift for somebody?

Each to their own I guess. I am sure (perhaps) Gucci sold more than 2 pairs of these anyway.

butterpuffed · 16/01/2020 18:26

Years ago I had some plain black sandals ready to throw out but my Dd [3 at the time] wanted them and put coloured stickers all over them.

They looked rather like OP's after the transformation , why oh why didn't I keep them, probably could've made a fortune on eBay Wink

'As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out .....'

Generally my first thought too after I have booked a holiday.....

Incredible.

To be fair, if I had those sandals, I'd only wear them in places no-one knew me that I didn't have to go back to too.

acatcalledjohn · 16/01/2020 18:45

That's a lot of money for something that looks like you got it off Wish or Boohoo.

But each to their own I suppose.

I'm more baffled by a) your SIL wanting these and b) your DH just giving her his bank card to order something that expensive.

I wore platforms when the Spice Girls were famous. In my defence I was about 12 or 13. The folly of youth...

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 16/01/2020 18:46

Have you seen the take a shite page on Facebook? I think it would give you some genuinely useful tips.

JemimaPuddleCat · 16/01/2020 18:49

It isn't a big deal, but surely you're going to get new sandals for this holiday? You can't honestly be going to wear the same shoes two summers running? Shock

amaryl · 16/01/2020 19:03

At €980 I’d except 10 Summers out of them

Inherdefence · 16/01/2020 19:13

Buy some new sandals for the holidays (Gucci do quite a few pairs that are equally ugly and overpriced). On the first day of the holidays make a gift of your old pair to the chambermaid or other hotel employee. Then make sure your SIL is aware that the only other person in the resort/yacht/private island with the same shoes as her is a staff member.

Although if the recipient of the sandals has any taste whatsoever they won’t be wearing them. Hopefully they will notice the brand name and sell them on eBay.

RiddleyW · 16/01/2020 19:14

How many siblings does DH have? That’s a big gap!

Keepaddingpets · 16/01/2020 19:17

@PlatoAteMySnozcumber 😂😂

She'd be much better off wearing a pita bread than those monstrosities.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/01/2020 19:31

My nan (born 1920s) used to say to me 'you've got a good leg.' Meaning she thought I had nice legs. So that weird shit where people say a singular (when it is actually a plural) is not new.

I'd forgotten that! My nana used to say "You have a neat little foot.' Born around the start of the 1900s

DrKnickerbocker · 16/01/2020 19:35

Has anyone seen the £400 odd Balenciaga Zen that look identical to £20 Lonsdales?

The fashion houses are slapping their logo on anything and charging what they want purely to rip the piss out of us I think Grin

The OP has helped me to understand exactly who purchases these 'pieces'

If your dh has all the the old money legacy because he inherited it all as a son (when she’s 20 years older than him but a female) - fuck - that must sting. She probably deserves a dozen pairs of those extraordinary Barber bootie sandals on that basis alone.

Batshittery · 16/01/2020 19:38

@FatherRabulaConundrum Grin. Me too

EnglishRose13 · 16/01/2020 19:39

I'm sorry but...

I never thought I would see a shoe I hate as much as Crocs. I was very wrong! But each to their own, life would be very boring if we all liked the same things!

maccaroni · 16/01/2020 19:48

Hahahahaaaaa!! You are joking right?

StrangeLookingParasite · 16/01/2020 19:51

Eh, people are being really rude, they're definitely not my cup of tea, mine's more these or these, but I can see in the right setting, those would be quite spectacular.
I'd look like a clown; not everyone else necessarily would.
And yes, it's going to be really bloody obvious if both you and your SIL are wearing them; they're pretty conspicuous.

raspberryk · 16/01/2020 19:54

Sell them and replace with a classier pair. Tan leather or something. Make your dh pay the difference... if this and the details are even true. So bizarre.

SugarNyx · 16/01/2020 20:03

They’re sandals!!! I think you’re being a bit pathetic tbh

TigerOnATrain · 16/01/2020 20:10

Where has the OP gone??? 😏🙄

Raspberrytruffle · 16/01/2020 20:14

Wow they look very comfortable, something that my 7 year old would live to wear! Op if it were me I'd be rather smug thinking ha I got them first Grin

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 16/01/2020 20:21

Won't believe this until the OP posts a photo of those shoes, with a spoon in the left one and a piece of paper with her username written on it under the right one.
