(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

DP came in to see why I was laughing so much, took one look at the sandals, mutter "Jesus Fucking Christ" and quickly left the room.

OP, if you like the sandals then more power to you.

There are plenty of eccentric items that don't have designer labels though, so I hope you are buying them because you genuinely like the design and not because they're Gucci.

HouseyNousey · 16/01/2020 17:36

littleolwinedrinker lol!!

Applesandpears23 · 16/01/2020 17:40

If you have enough money to buy £1000 presents why is this your first holiday in 3 years?!?

PortiaCastis · 16/01/2020 17:41

Jesus Mary Mother of God !

Get thee to somewhere for a bit of down to earth reality

littleolwinedrinker · 16/01/2020 17:42

@Applesandpears23 it's not our first holiday in 3 years. It's DD's first holiday. We go away without her quite frequently

My nan (born 1920s) used to say to me 'you've got a good leg.' Meaning she thought I had nice legs. So that weird shit where people say a singular (when it is actually a plural) is not new. Confused

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/01/2020 17:52

Oh come the fuck on, people.

God knows it's true that the rich are eccentric and the rest of us are just weird (I myself am very weird Grin) but if you think this is a proper thread, I've got a bridge to sell you...

DontCallMeShitley · 16/01/2020 17:55

Yes, they say ' a red lip' instead of red lips. Maddening.

Ahh but I rock a red lip, usually when I have been out in the cold. The other one is pale pink.

Mouldiwarp1 · 16/01/2020 17:58

If she’s 25 years older than you, you’ll look like a mother and daughter double act!

SilverPinkDaisies · 16/01/2020 18:01

If you are about 30 ? ( haven’t read everything) and she is approx 55, I think she’s going to look slightly bonkers, and I’m old -ish
She might very well not like them.

Don’t show her you’re bothered, at all.

She won’t take them on holiday.

Who wants the exact same sandals, that someone else is mad about ??
Ignore her, she’s obviously very impressed by your style.
Take it as a compliment.

pelirocco123 · 16/01/2020 18:04

Id be pissed off that my partner spent that amount on a present for someone else
I would also tie a big sign when I wore them just to let people know the 'label' and price because I doubt anyone would guess ...quite the opposite I would think

TigerOnATrain · 16/01/2020 18:04

@SilverPinkDaisies

The OP said her SIL is 47, then changed it to 48, so she's probably 50, or 33.

Wink
AcrobaticCardigan · 16/01/2020 18:07

How can these be your only sandal choice - they are hardly versatile! But it’s completely not on that she is buying same ones for the same holiday! I wouldn’t be happy!

TheWernethWife · 16/01/2020 18:08

I can't imagine anyone buying these fuck ugly shoes.

As my old mum used to say "just because you can doesn't mean you should"

Strokethefurrywall · 16/01/2020 18:09

I only have one question...

If you've married into old money and this is DHs sister we're talking about, why the fuck hasn't she already bought the monstrosities for herself?? Presumably she has the old money too?

Aside from the other joys of this thread, this is the one question stumping me.

TigerOnATrain · 16/01/2020 18:11

This thread is brilliant.. Seriously. Fuck ugly shoes! Grin

Zoflorabore · 16/01/2020 18:11

How is it even possible for 2 people to have such bad taste? Those are hideous.

They may be Gucci but look cheap and nasty. I’m surprised they’re still available if you bought yours last summer op. Wouldn’t they be onto summer 2023 styles now?!

Gazelda · 16/01/2020 18:12

Where are you off to on your holidays OP?

TigerOnATrain · 16/01/2020 18:12

I mean I hear FUGLY sometimes, but fuck-ugly (the full saying) sounded really funny. Grin

Tombliwho · 16/01/2020 18:12

In three years you've been away frequently and not taken your kid once?? Shock

TigerOnATrain · 16/01/2020 18:14

Ba ha ha Grin

Nquartz · 16/01/2020 18:14

You could stick a Gucci logo on a dog turd and someone would buy it.

This!! These shoes just prove the saying that money can't buy you style/taste 🤮

helpmum2003 · 16/01/2020 18:18

Crumbs. Stealth boast?

VulcanRay · 16/01/2020 18:19

Billie Eilish is that you?!

Beau2020x · 16/01/2020 18:20

Well aren't you a delight... maybe spend less money on hideous shoes and enjoy holidays with your daughter. The do free child places these days you know...
