(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

Do the heels light up when you walk OP ?

I knew that it was a little more than I would be prepared to pay for what look like a pair of kid's shoes designed by a leprechaun on crack.

Christ, MN attracts more than its fair share of very young women married to very rich men, doesn't it?

I would love to be an old man's darling - oh - hang on, I AM. It'sjust I'm old, too.

But sadly, there's no old money, just two old farts.

Spotsandstars · 16/01/2020 17:13

It'll be fine, you guys will totally rock the whole Edina and Patsy look together!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/01/2020 17:14

This is how they look on

Thank you Owlypants - evidence that it is possible to rock that look.

And here it finally is. The proof money cannot buy taste or class.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/01/2020 17:16

it's the 'shoe' bit that tickled me grin surely it should say 'shoes'. Shoe, trouser, blah blah

I'll bet they don't "buy" anything either Swish - I'll bet the whole wardrobe is CURATED!!!!!

BettysLeftTentacle · 16/01/2020 17:20

Young people at work do this nonsense. ‘A shoe’, ‘a trouser’. ‘Ooooo I do like a sock like that’.

WTF is wrong with plurals these days. People worked fucking hard to develop the English language and defend it. Use the fucking plurals!!!!!

Princessfaffalot · 16/01/2020 17:20

Is this old money Monopoly money in your make believe would, op?

Pancakeflipper · 16/01/2020 17:21

Can't believe Gucci are still selling last years stock and not reducing it.

You missed a trick OP, you should have given her the sandals as a gift and got yourself this years gaudy creations.

Redyellowpink · 16/01/2020 17:22

Wow wow wow. Often on mumsnet things aren’t what they seem and unrelated worlds collide in an unexpected way.

TigerOnATrain · 16/01/2020 17:22

I much prefer these shoes to be honest...

Maybe you could get these @littleolwinedrinker seeing as your 'sister-in-law' has COPIED you. Wink

I mean look at the cute blonde pony tails on the first pic.

Does she know you're intending wear yours on holiday? If so really single white female behaviour but anyway you've got six months to get some different ones or go round and hide one of hers

ILearnedItFromABook · 16/01/2020 17:23

LOL... Okay... Thought you were being silly before seeing the sandals. After seeing them, I can't believe this is serious.

I'd be annoyed if my husband spent that much on someone's birthday gift without at least talking to me about it beforehand (unless we always spent that much), but honestly, no-one is going to care that you and your SIL wear the same shoes. Yes, they might notice (only because those are some seriously gaudy shoes), but why would anyone ever care?

Also, if you're 25 years younger, you'll probably look better in them than she will. (Well, as good as anyone can look in those sandals...) Isn't that what people worry about when someone shows up in the same outfit? (I don't get that, either, tbh. Unless someone makes a creepy, stalkerish habit of intentionally copying everything you do/wear, who cares?)

littleolwinedrinker · 16/01/2020 17:24

@littleolwinedrinker I don't like you're tone.... I was explaining why it's normal for DH and ds to spend a lot of money on each other for Christmas. They've always done this because they've always had a lot of money. I certainly haven't.

KidCaneGoat · 16/01/2020 17:25

@Plumpplums 😂 does the heel light up?
@littleolwinedrinker btw, I hate them but love the fact that you like them. I really like it when people don’t give a shit about anyone else’s opinion and just wear what they like. Really weird that SIL wants the same pair. I look at people’s shoes a lot and would defo notice if you were matching.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/01/2020 17:27

TigerOnATrain

every pair of shoes you have curated for us is Fabulous Darling!

I especially like the rats. Grin

midnightmisssuki · 16/01/2020 17:30

Get the Chanel ones OP, much comfier.

HouseyNousey · 16/01/2020 17:30

Yes, they say ' a red lip' instead of red lips. Maddening.

TigerOnATrain · 16/01/2020 17:31

@SchadenfreudePersonified

The rats shoes are FAB aren't they??

@littleolwinedrinker Are you replying to yourself now? Confused

@Pancakeflipper

Those shoes are ace. Grin

Sandalous story!

Tombliwho · 16/01/2020 17:32

My four year old would genuinely baulk at those and she shops in Claire's 😂 I always wondered what type of people buy the really weird gaudy designer shit.

littleolwinedrinker · 16/01/2020 17:32

@HouseyNousey I am definitely guilty of this

@littleolwinedrinker you don’t like my tone...I don’t like your sandals. There, balance Grin
