If you want to leave fine, goodbye
But you can’t be half in half out !

But if they hadn't "announced" it, it was about to be leaked by the press. Like it or not, it would've made the news either way.
Does anyone know how The Sun newspaper got to know about it in such detail that they were going break the story?

If it were me, I would have let the press publish the story and I would have been respectful and informed the Queen personally. The media would speculate but, until the final details had been we worked out, it should have been kept secret. I feel H&M were too concerned about being in control of the process.

They cant just up and go, it is a process.
It is a process. The idea had been touched on with the RF some time ago and I feel H&M should have continued the process, accelerating it if necessary, in private and with respect for the Queen. I feel they have been disrespectful, controlling and selfish.

I don't think we can have royals who are 1/2 in and 1/2 out. If they want out then they need to relinquish titles, homes, funding, security and become private citizens. I would respect them more if they did that than wanting to be royals working towards financial independence. I believe they want to retain their titles because they they will exploit them in order to derive an income from their trademarked SussexRoyal.com. Remove the royal titles and let them be private citizens.

To the press: If they do become private citizens then, please, give them the privacy they profess to want. Please do not inflict any more stories about them on us.

Choosername · 09/01/2020 10:43

They can't keep their royal titles if they leave the royal family can they?

How do you suppose they leave the royal family? Can you leave YOUR family and deny your genetics and where you came from?

The name he has comes with his heritage. Why should he give it up? They’ve stated they’re decreasing royal engagements and trying to spread themselves between the two continents. Why can’t he have both? How does it personally affect YOU if he keeps his name?

What the fuck is wrong with this country where people either want black or white and call anything in between entitled.

Unhomme · 09/01/2020 10:43

What's the point of having cake and not eating it?

The80sweregreat · 09/01/2020 10:45

Considering that the British public voted to be ' independent' ' free of chains' ' able to control our own lives' in 2016 and are now gnashing their teeth when someone is attempting the same and wants to emigrate / lead a different life is a strange irony! I read the comments on the daily mail about this news and some have taken it very personally indeed. Those were the nice ones..
My only gripe is if the taxpayer has to pay out for them for security which I'm still not sure about really : the ' working towards independence ' sentence wasn't really a good idea when they are already very wealthy individuals!

They haven't behaved very well and should have at least told the Queen what they were thinking of doing : she has kept them going through all the bad times after all!
Without her I doubt any of them would still be around to be honest. None of them are without their skeletons in the cupboard: she is the only one who hasn't any and kept the 'Royal brand ' going( just my opinion )
I really don't care what they do or don't do to be honest, but the media attention will be worse now and Harry has really fallen from ' national treasure' to something much different now. Maybe they better off out of it all. I bet William is not happy at all by all this hoo ha!
They have certainly put the cat amount the pigeons.

MsPepperPotts · 09/01/2020 10:46

@Amaretto totally agree

Also the way that they have been and still are being hounded by the British Media as well as on Social Media.

The Queen is his grandmother and I bet he has her full backing in private no matter what crap comes from the so-called 'sources' at Buckingham Palace.
The public face of the RF is completely different to the private one.

ItIsTheWay · 09/01/2020 10:46

If you eat the cake there is no cake left.

ScreamingLadySutch · 09/01/2020 10:50

This is not going to end well.

It is rather sad that he is isolating himself from his family and friends, and investing heavily in one person.

bluebell34567 · 09/01/2020 10:51

i think something happened there and they reacted by giving public statement.
maybe when they went nobody asked about them, etc.
i also agree with op about eating his cake.

bluebell34567 · 09/01/2020 10:53

i agree @ScreamingLadySutch, and then she will leave him.
all happened will be happened to him.

bluebell34567 · 09/01/2020 10:53

with megs taking her half.

Mrsjayy · 09/01/2020 10:53

During their courtship , did the subject not come up ? Was their future role not explained to Meghan ?

According to Meghan in her itv interview it was all a complete surprise to her Confused

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 09/01/2020 10:56

Yes, he does want his cake and to eat it.

If he hadn't been born into such wealth, I would be surprised if he could have got a job making the bare minimum.

he is dim, greedy, entitled, whining and self pitying.

Then he got together with a woman who was like him in all respects, except dim. That's not to say she's intelligent but she is cute enough to be crafty, plotting and manipulative.

He was a second class twat and she has made him a first class twat and if he really thinks that she would have given him a second look if he wasn't a royal, then she has done her job well.

If he thinks she'll be gazing into his eyes in two years, then he'll really be woke...a rude awakening.

Enjoy those crumbs, Harry!

dreamingofsun · 09/01/2020 10:56

happy for them as long as i dont have to fund them any more. we wont have to listen to them moaning about how hard their lives are whilst visiting poor countries like africa.

William and Kate, by comparison are doing a really good job. So we really dont need harry and meghan now anyway.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/01/2020 10:58

That stupid south african documentary was their nail I think with their poor us nonsense after juat visited townships

I agree, it was unbelievable.

IfThingsComeInThreesWhyThisNow · 09/01/2020 10:58

Nah I see no reason for the uproar - leave them be ffs. They need to ease out gently, she's been put through hell the last year or so to cover up William's affair and she sounds depressed after the birth of Archie.
Let them live in Canada, see her mum and mates more often, if they do do some Canadian tour or duties out there pay them pro rata and give them the chance to do their charity stuff or let her return to acting why the hell not. He did a grand job of invictus games, carries on doing stuff like that.
Both are protected from the daily shit from the fail and the sun.
Rather that than another marriage split and a woman fucked over by the press all the time.

Cohle · 09/01/2020 11:00

The press have been speculating for months that Meghan and Harry would step back. I can't imagine what info the Sun had that would have made their story so much more believable.

I think if they were determined to do this it should have been much more coordinated with the Palace. There are so many unanswered questions that could clearly have been planned for if they had bothered to get their ducks in a row.

morrisseysquif · 09/01/2020 11:00

Let them go but they should be stripped of the HRH titles. if they won't be doing any royal duties they don't get the kudos.

They'll be living of the connection anyway.

See how successful Prince Edward was at using his royal name to forge his business career.

Gotthetshirt23 · 09/01/2020 11:03

One way to detract from your sister in laws birthday ....
Make an announcement like that and it's all you !

Lightsabre · 09/01/2020 11:04

How gross that the Queen makes known that she’s “disappointed” that her grandson’s wife doesn’t want to work for the family business, but not disappointed that her son has been accused of sexually abusing numerous teenage girls.

Copied from the other threads.

Ponoka7 · 09/01/2020 11:09

I thought the Queen has 'legal custody' of the Royal children and can insist that they are educated in The UK?

I liked than as a couple, but I always thought he was ungrateful. I also do wonder what happened to the idolised view he had of living in Africa.

I thought they were perfect for the role as Head of the Commonwealth and wonder who would replace them.

I thought Zara Tindall and her Husband were a disgusting for the celebrations they took part in and the pictures of them and their cleb friends on NYE, considering the fires. Rebel Wilson has given £1 million to the fund since. I think Zara is another one who likes the perks but thinks there's no responsibility.

Bluntness100 · 09/01/2020 11:15

Zara has no title and is entitled to earn money, she gets no payment from the royal purse and is effectively a private individual.

ChristmasSweet · 09/01/2020 11:29

Come on you have to hand it to Meghan, she's been smart.

Wasn't having a great career actress wise, yeah she had suits but it's not as popular as other TV shows, and any films she did she wasn't the lead.

Enter Prince Harry. She sees him and thinks there's an in for me to become more well known. Gets engaged and then starts demanding. Gets married, still demanding things. So then has a kid and gets Harry on board to 'leave' the Royal duties behind, but keep all the perks. So she is now free to continue her acting career with full security already and money coming in if it fails.

She has Harry wrapped around her little finger, to him, she can do no wrong. Before her, he was getting into royal duties and seemed to have grown up a bit, was being more sensible and mature (I'm talking recent years here). She comes along and it all goes downhill fast, and their relationship was bloody quick too.

She'll be in movie roles before the year is out. Then if she makes a few decent films, she'll leave him no doubt.

Scarsthelot · 09/01/2020 11:30

I do have to say. If they were Royal and it was a woman that was slowly distancing herself from her family, people would be saying they think the partner is controlling and potentially abusive.

LaurieMarlow · 09/01/2020 11:32

Wasn't having a great career actress wise

I know lots of aspiring actors. Anyone one of them would give their right arm for a role like she had on Suits.

The bitterness towards her is so depressing.

LaurieMarlow · 09/01/2020 11:34

If they were Royal and it was a woman that was slowly distancing herself from her family, people would be saying they think the partner is controlling and potentially abusive.

You don’t know a single thing about their marriage and the dynamics of it.

How utterly bizarre to pass this kind of comment.
