*They went away for 6 weeks. No one even knew where they were

Six weeks later 'hello we're back and we're going now - for good. Are you looking? Are you still looking because we really are going'

All they had to do was quietly write a cheque for the renovations on the cottage, decline their state pocket money, step back and wind things down without making a big old show about it all*

Yes THIS. Such attention-seeking, it's embarrassing

woodchuck99 · 10/01/2020 17:32

They have declined the state pocket money. I don't see why they should pay for the renovations on the house which came with the job assuming that they don't own it and aren't going to continue living there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/01/2020 17:38

I also don’t think the money she amassed is anything like being a part of the Royal Family in terms of wealth and position

Very true, but equally - while it's the riches of Croesus to most of us - the fortune of £34 million they're alleged to have is a pittance compared to the celebs whose attention they seem to crave
A "suitable" house could easily take a third of it and a Clooney-type lifestyle doesn't come cheap, which is doubtless why they'd quite like others to go on funding them

If it does come to a separation, though, I only hope Harry gets to see as much of his little lad as he wants to and that Archie doesn't become a bargaining chip

Booboostwo · 10/01/2020 17:58

Should her Maj be reading I would like to confirm that I am available to take over the HRH Duchess of Sussex title at very short notice and on very reasonable terms.

AraGrand · 10/01/2020 18:14

The thing is Harry is mid 30's. He's not a little boy anymore. He has had very little responsibilities laid on him. Yet he has the privilege and wealth of a prince. He appears to have a poor work ethic as does Meghan (though, she's obviously been on ML). The Queen on the other hand has spent 67 years putting duty and her job above everything else. She has been very indulgent of her grandsons and William and Kate seem to have actually stepped up. Harry has been let off with a lot. Now that he wants to decamp to Canada and go NC/LC with his family of origin is a bit of a slap in the face. I think we all know that without Meghan, he wouldn't have chosen this path. It's a bit ungrateful and spoilt really. He's not a little boy now. He's a grown man.

The80sweregreat · 10/01/2020 18:16

It is true that 34 mill is ' peanuts' to most big name A list celebs and the likes of Bill Gates!

AraGrand · 10/01/2020 18:21

It's the expense accounts that they've been living off. Like to see how they live off their own earnings. She could go back acting. Can't say I heard of her before their marriage, so I don't know whether she's a good actress or not. Harry could go back into the military. And they could stop irritating and pissing on the rest of us minions who pay for them.

DuchessofWoke · 10/01/2020 18:23

Hard to believe someone who has only been on the scene for 3/4 years can make such waves

And yet I think a great many people would have privately predicted exactly this scenario playing out...eventually...the speed of it is the only thing that’s come as a surprise.

Blind Gossip also mentioned how they originally planned to monetize Archie's birth

doritosdip · 10/01/2020 18:29

And they suggested that the six week holiday was about getting pregnant with #2

LIZS · 10/01/2020 18:34

@DuchessofWoke agree it was always on the cards, for her at least, but probably for once Queen has passed on and a general rejig of roles took place. They could live off what they have personally but seem to be overly financially ambitious to the point of vulgarity. Tbh I don't think she ever really settled here as an expat, many less financially advantaged don't either and having children away from support of family and friends is often a catalyst for moving "home".

doritosdip · 10/01/2020 18:34

I'm curious about the £600k security costs for Harry and Meghan quoted in the papers,

Caitlyn Jenner said that Kylie Jenner (Caitlyn's Dd) spends $300k-$400k per month on security for her and her dd

The80sweregreat · 10/01/2020 19:14

Maybe Meghan will have to get her people to ring around ' rate my security guards.com ' and get a better deal on the minders and body guards! Might be cheaper over there.
They will need to watch the pennies once the money from the duchy starts to dry up a bit!

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 10/01/2020 19:16

I think they're just money hungry and wanted to be the flame of a new monarchy-trailblazers, gaining the adoration of the disadvantaged.

A sort of human Statue of Liberty.

He needs to stop harking back to his childhood. Many, many childrenhave it much worse than him right now-no food for example.

It is nauseating to see a grown man feel so sorry for himself, continually filling up over what happened when he was a child. Grow Up!
You're a hugely privileged man now and it's a pity you chose to marry someone who whines along with you instead of someone who could have realised your potential and checked your privilege.

They're gabbers-money, attention-anything. Foul pair.

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 10/01/2020 19:22

I totally agree with those posters who point out the huge difference in wealth and it is a key part of the jigsaw of their murky money grubbing minds/

Megan wanted to be a fairytale princess with more billions than anyone, plus everyone bowing and calling her by her title and bowing to her.

cavabiensepasser · 10/01/2020 19:24

Aw poor ickle Meg and Harry. I've been to places where children have no mummy and no daddy and no shoes on their feet and they don't cry. So Harry should stop with his luxury whinging.

That website is beyond ridiculous. That logo KILLED Me. The stylised H/M with the crown above it. I frankly don't know whether to laugh or cry.

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 10/01/2020 19:24

@crispysausagerolls.

I agree! She's been a newly wed a couple of times hasn't she. You would think she would know all about it by now!

Al1cewith2020vision · 10/01/2020 19:26

Megan wanted to be a fairytale princess with more billions than anyone, plus everyone bowing and calling her by her title and bowing to her.

I think so too. She wanted to be the star of this show, and has found herself further down the pecking order.

AraGrand · 10/01/2020 19:35

I 100% agree that Meghan thought she'd be top dawg and show those brits how to do it. That she was way down the pecking order hasn't gone down well at all. I've said it before - she's a diva. She needs to be centre stage and unfortunately she's not in the RF. I really had great hopes for their marriage, but I think she has fucked it up royally - pun intended. I genuinely don't give their marriage another 2 years.

AraGrand · 10/01/2020 19:37

Harry will be collateral damage and he just can't see it coming.

That her sister speaks so poorly of her says a lot.

Prince Andrew didn't get an ounce of this s**t.
He's laughing his head off right now

Alltheprettyseahorses · 10/01/2020 19:53

Good luck to him I say. The queen has said nothing about her son's behaviour but is apparently upset by her grandson living his own life - what a joke! I really don't understand the forelock-tugging whining that there has somehow been 'disrespect' to the queen, an over-privileged woman who's lived in idle luxury her entire life surrounded by kowtowers simply because she came out of the right bottom - a rather nasty and cheeky over-privileged woman to boot going by the story Miriam Margolyes has told. Meghan is her equal, as are we all, and she has the right to decide her own role in the outdated circus.

Anyway, there were no complaints when the heir to the throne and his wife decided to step back from public duties (as if anyone would notice) and very few when they were ripping out kitchens and spending £millions to indulge themselves rather than merely living in a house that had to be done up anyway. There are no demands for Andrew to hand back all the money he's benefitted from. The hypocrisy stinks.

The80sweregreat · 10/01/2020 19:59

The Queen has kept ' brand royals' going it's true. The only time she shed a tear was when they took the royal yacht away!
She is as hard as nails and so was her mum.
They made then hard in the 1920s. ( my dad is 98 and just the same)
No navel gazing or new age rubbish with that lot!
