It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

It was always obvious that Meghan married in to the Royal Family for celebrity, fame and fortune without understanding that the order of precedence within a hereditary monarchy can't be overturned by snide PR campaigns. She never had respect for the role.

What she shouldn't take the blame for is changing Harry, we've just seen who he really is now the veneer of respectability Charles, William & Kate gave him has been stripped away.

I don’t think she has changed Harry. She’s probably just given him the confidence to make a move. Also you mature when you become a partner/ husband and father. He’s now thinking of the life his child will have.

Given that Prince Charles is planning on reducing the core of the royal family when he becomes king, have they jumped before they were pushed out? It looks like they will be living in America for at least part of their time. After the way the press have hounded MM & what happened to Princess Diana Harry is protecting his family, they can live a more "normal" life away from the UK, I don't blame them one bit. MM probably wants to spend time with her own mother, since she got engaged to Harry she hasn't really had any proper time to spend with her, i know everyone will be saying that she knew what she was signing up to when she married him but you can't help who you fall in love with.

She's not giving up being a royal. They're giving up being 'senior royals' which is basically saying they don't want to be royals as a full time job and they don't want their roles to be defined by any other palace influence (including the Queen) and want to be free to cash in on their royal profiles. They're not giving up public funding or security, or their platforms and or patronages or their own pet projects. The statement also seems to hint they will be continuing to engage with the woke brand of politics they're both very keen on.

Basically before they would have been expected to do certain things as senior royals, trooping of the colour, Remembrance Day, Ascot, state occasions including banquets and receptions for foreign dignitaries plus overseas royal tours and a full diary of engagements.

Rather than stopping being royal what they seem to want to do is treat royalty like a tap they can turn on and off at will. So 6 months in America writing lifestyle blogs, pushing products and interviews with Oprah pontificating on woke causes , then back for a fortnight to stick on a tiara and some royal jewels and mug for a few photos next to HM so nobody forgets they're royals.

If they were genuinely giving up being royal - fine. But they're just giving up the bits they don't like and hanging on to the perks and privileges.

That appalling woman was always going to cause maximum trouble for the Monarchy. William was right in his reservations!! My sympathies lie with the Queen, Princes Charles and William. I hope they receive no more public monies.

Sorry to be a bore but I’d been watching Suits for years, long before anyone here had ever heard of her. Loads of cast interviews where she came across well plus in one interview they asked each cast member which of them was most like their character and they all said her (her character was a very positive one). This was before she’d ever met Harry so no agenda.

think it’s very kind of The Queen to allow them to give the PR impression this was their decision. They’ve been booted, pure and simple.

What makes you think that? I've been saying they're going to start distancing themselves from royal duties for ages. Harry has never been a typical royal. Always spotted in places that he probably shouldn't have been. This behaviour (going against tradition) is not a new thing.

Also Archie is not a mythical creature, you did not need to put apostrophes either side of his name.

I think good for them for breaking away from it all to focus on their family unit.

It’s quite possible that being Royal hasn’t been what MM expected. However, I also wonder whether her already difficult family were so much worse once she was dating Harry. At one point, pretty much every time she did anything, her sister commented on it in the press. Her family have made the Windsors look almost normal. Doing this cuts off all the attention that they get.
