I’m just watching the new Mary Poppins. I know, knowbody else can be Mary Poppins like Julie Andrews- she is a legend! I didn’t expect Emily blunt to be to her standards, this is absolutely terrible. Sadly, I do not rate Emily blunt In this at all. Has anybody else seen it??

I've seen it and thought it was great.

Branleuse · 03/01/2020 22:29

I really liked it.

PeakingDuck · 03/01/2020 22:29

I loved it!

balletpanda · 03/01/2020 22:30

Yes i hated it too. The stage Mary poppins on currently, however, is outstanding and worth every penny

DragonflyInn · 03/01/2020 22:30

I really liked it! Admittedly I went with low expectations but I was really pleasantly surprised how well it captured the essence / spirit of the original.

emilybrontescorsett · 03/01/2020 22:30

No, I'd heard it was terrible so gave it a miss. I saw the musical version at the theatre about a year or so ago and as I really enjoyed that, I didn't think this version would compare.

wishing4sun · 03/01/2020 22:30

I was really disappointed and wish I hadn't watched it the same with Dumbo. I just don't think you can compare when films hold cherished childhood memories. X

mnahmnah · 03/01/2020 22:30

I really liked her, except the accent. Way too over the top. Julie Andrews has a natural sounding posh accent. Emily Blunt’s made me cringe all the way through

Someonesayroadtrip · 03/01/2020 22:31

We watched it in the cinema, I wasn't a massive fan but afterwards my husband said something like "well, it all makes sense now, she clearly had the children drugged" and now that's all I think when I try and watch it.

Canyousewcushions · 03/01/2020 22:31

I didn't like it much first time I saw it- it was the somewhat affected accent that I wasn't keen on. It's grown on me with repeated viewings though...

gower4 · 03/01/2020 22:31

I loved it! It really captures the spirit of the original - made for three generations I think!

beela · 03/01/2020 22:32

I didn't enjoy it either. Too much of a rehash of the original.

Samcro · 03/01/2020 22:32

I got it for my dd(sn) for Christmas, she and adult ds liked it. But I thought EB was terrible. No way eould i have her as a nanny

cinnabunbun · 03/01/2020 22:32

I thought it was sweet but maybe a little long. I saw it in a group of families and we all shed a tear or two so it can't be that bad. I thought Emily Blunt was great. Just the right balance of boundaried bossiness

PianoTuner567 · 03/01/2020 22:32

Loved it, and I’m a massive fan of the original so wasn’t expecting to.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 03/01/2020 22:32

Sorry. I loved it.

TildaTurnip · 03/01/2020 22:33

I really liked it! I agree her accent sounded a little forced though.

Pardonwhat · 03/01/2020 22:33

It was wonderful.
My only grumble is the scene with the men dancing around the lampposts lasts too long.

lorn195 · 03/01/2020 22:33

I had watched it the cinema with some of my Brownies as we had a special screening earlier last year. Came home to my husband and told him "that was 2 hours of my life I will never get back". 😂

Queenofpi · 03/01/2020 22:34

The original was my favourite film as a child (my sister claims she was traumatised by how often I put it in the TV!) but I didn't enjoy the new one at all. I'm pretending it never happened...

Buscake · 03/01/2020 22:36

Agree. The accent was shite, but more worrying was the constant gaslighting of the children! She kept saying that things hadn’t happened when they had - fucking weird.

Novia · 03/01/2020 22:37

I hated it - I think MP was smug and unlikeable. Also, the cartoony scene with her dancing with her skirt up/short was totally unrealistic as MP would have a greater sense of propriety than to be kicking her legs up and showing her knees in public like a jade! 😂

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/01/2020 22:38

I walked out and left my dd’s to watch it while I sat in the Costa.

PianoTuner567 · 03/01/2020 22:38

* Agree. The accent was shite, but more worrying was the constant gaslighting of the children! She kept saying that things hadn’t happened when they had - fucking weird.*

That happens in the first one as well.

JuneFromBethesda · 03/01/2020 22:39

I loved it. Ben Whishaw most of all but I thought Emily Blunt was pretty good. Not a carbon copy of Julie Andrews but why should she be? I thought the story was beautifully done and the score is terrific.
