To think it's weird that she used the family bathroom?

Friend of mine visited the house yesterday.

She's been here before and knows we have a downstairs guest loo but yesterday when she asked to use the loo she went upstairs to the main bathroom (which was in a bit of a mess as wasn't expecting anyone to see it)
To do so she had to navigate two baby gates, so it's not like it's the easier option.

AIBU to think it's weird?

While initially I felt the same as op i think so many people have given fairly obvious reasons. To the pp who is shocked at people pooing in someone's else's house - I don't have a medical condition as such but I also can't usually hold my poo in. When i need to go i need to go and there is no way i can poo on demand. My dh can hold his until he is ready which i find weird!

Fatted · 28/12/2019 13:23

Our downstairs loo is in a cupboard under the stairs and right next to our kitchen table. It's tiny and cramped. I only want the DC using it when they can't wait to make it upstairs. I would always direct guests upstairs.

In one of our previous homes, DH actually worked out he could use the downstairs toilet and still watch the TV in the living room. Grim.

SchoolPanicTime · 28/12/2019 13:24

Possibly needed to poo or fart really loudly and didn't want you to hear?

This.

LauraMipsum · 28/12/2019 13:26

I'm amazed that so many people poo in other people's toilets

You're quite right, I always use the litter tray - or failing that, a plant pot in the garden.

SchoolPanicTime · 28/12/2019 13:27

I'm amazed that so many people poo in other people's toilets [shocked] unless there is a pressing medical need of course

Only on MN is the need to perform very basic bodily functions considered odd. Surely it isn't healthy to hold your poo in all day?

MrsToothyBitch · 28/12/2019 13:29

As pp have suggested, visitor likely wanted more privacy. What's the flush like in that loo? I won't use the downstairs loo at a friend's house because it's a bitch to flush.
I also occasionally need to poo in someone else's loo. Nothing medically wrong, I just can't always wait, especially if it's a long visit.

BillHadersNewWife · 28/12/2019 13:30

I don't have any medical issues but if I need a poo then I need a poo. Right away. I don't understand people who wait! I poo twice a day and they're healthy ones...my digestion is perfect.

forkfun · 28/12/2019 13:31

The pressing medical need is that when a human needs a poo, they should find a toilet and have said poo. I think this is why we have toilets.

northernknickers · 28/12/2019 13:33

@fatted I can (and do 😳🤦‍♀️) do this from my own downstairs loo! In fairness, I live by myself, so there's nobody witnessing me watching TV whilst having a wee 🤷‍♀️

I think it's a great convenience (but wouldn't inflict on guests, obviously 😂😳)

Weird to start a thread embarrassing a guest about their toilet habits though!! I think it's pretty obvious why they'd choose to go upstairs!! It would definitely be obvious in my house...as we've just discussed 🤷‍♀️ I'd actually direct them upstairs to save their blushes.

Womenwotlunch · 28/12/2019 13:34

Sorry Op, why are you so suspicious of your ‘friend’?

BillHadersNewWife · 28/12/2019 13:34

Fork yes! I am amazed at the people who hold it in! My friend does this and as a result, she only poos about twice a week. That's not good! I'm sure it's years of not pooing when she needs to.

DH also holds it in "Need a poo soon" he'll say...and I'm like "Well go then!" and he's all "No...busy"

Confused No wonder he has stomach issues.

TheTrollFairy · 28/12/2019 13:34

Why is it odd to use a friends toilet to have a poo?

simplekindoflife · 28/12/2019 13:36

She needed a poo or a fart! Or...

I use the upstairs loo at my in-laws house when I'm on my period. Their loo is so close to the dining room, you'd hear all the rustling! Plus I need a bin.

Batshittery · 28/12/2019 13:40

Whilst I'm aware that pooing is a normal bodily function, it's something that I find embarrassing. I would have to be very desperate to do it in somebody else's toilet. I don't even do it at work. It's obviously only me that has such a hang up Blush
And this thread further confirms my view. I would be mortified if my friend told people about it (if that's the reason they used the family bathroom) 😱

luckylavender · 28/12/2019 13:41

@Batshittery - I detest this as an attitude, seriously. Pooing is a normal bodily function and we can't all do it to order. Many people I know have serious issues because they never poo(ed) at school or work.

Thefaceofboe · 28/12/2019 13:42

Emeraldshamrock · 28/12/2019 13:43

I'd assume she wanted extra privacy to poo or change a pad. Especially if your downstairs is in the hallway with extra guests walking about.

Sparklesocks · 28/12/2019 13:43

People need to poo. Not everyone can hold it all the time. It’s perfectly normal and healthy, everyone does it. It’s not a horrific insult on your friend’s name if you dare perform a basic body function in their house.

Bluerussian · 28/12/2019 13:45

Maybe strange but did she want a poo and a bath? Please don't question her.

FlamingoAndJohn · 28/12/2019 13:46

I spent all Christmas Day, from 11am to midnight at my friend’s house. I can’t imagine being there and holding a poo in. How uncomfortable.

VladmirsPoutine · 28/12/2019 13:46

I've never understood this MN obsession with poo threads. It's literally a basic bodily function. Unless it's a thread about IBS or a wider general health issue what is there to really say about poo?

ferrier · 28/12/2019 13:48

If I need a poo and try to hold it in I'll end up farting instead. I'm guessing most people would rather I just went and used the toilet Blush

Perid0t · 28/12/2019 13:48

Perhaps she needed a poo so wanted more privacy.

recrudescence · 28/12/2019 13:48

A downstairs guest loo seems an odd idea to me. Does everyone else have to go upstairs for a pee when you have guests?

Thurmanmurman · 28/12/2019 13:49

Number 2. My brother was here yesterday and went upstairs as he needed a poo, announcing it obvs🤣 I also rarely poo downstairs for some reason
