Jolyon Maugham QC stating on twitter that he has clubbed to death a fox rather than calling for help to free it from netting in his garden.

Call to RSPCA concluded and a report filed.

They confirmed the killing of the fox with a baseball bat was an offence and they are going to take action. The Police will be involved also.

Never turn a blind eye to wrong doing against those who cannot defend themselves.

@jonb6 he said the fox didn't get in to his chickens, the netting stopped it.

I couldn't imagine killing an animal. You've got to be a special kind of fucked up to even contemplate it, let alone actually do it.

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/12/2019 12:30

The rspca have a habit of only getting involved in high profile court cases. Just try calling them out when you come across a starving horse, or a trapped bird with a broken wing, or a dog without food, water or shelter. They don't give a shit.

halocompanach · 26/12/2019 12:31

Yes, they didn't care when I phoned them about a horse tied up in the middle of a roundabout a few years ago as they said there was nothing they could do about it legally.

Lockheart · 26/12/2019 12:32

@halocompanach so the RSPCA haven't said they're involving the police, a third party has said that the RSPCA said they're involving the police.

Forgive me but I'll wait until the RSPCA confirm it directly; it's very easy for misinformation to spread if you rely on claims from unverified third parties.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/12/2019 12:32

No I haven’t been in a hen house after a fox has got in. Because I’m a responsible chicken owner and make sure my hens are foxed proof. 20 years of keeping chickens and no fox attacks even though I’ve seen foxes in my garden so I must be doing something right! 👍

LoveNote · 26/12/2019 12:32

the RSPCA always say they will get involved and use police

nothing will happen to him

he did the right thing if the fox was injured and stressed. one hit is all is needed if done correctly

VivaLeBeaver · 26/12/2019 12:33

And the rspca don’t seem to do much about all the ongoing illegal fox hunting. Plenty of video evidence of foxes being ripped limb from limb by hounds....how many prosecutions?

Jimmers · 26/12/2019 12:34

@Jonb6

Is that old chestnut the best you’ve got. It’s a risk you take when you keep animals. Nature will take its course.

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/12/2019 12:34

Anyone here been in to a hen house after a fox has got in? No, thought not . . . There's a difference between an animal obeying its instinct and a civilised human being being heedless of suffering when dispatching an animal. The fox doesn't "deserve" to suffer because of its instinctive reactions.

Hoppinggreen · 26/12/2019 12:35

Someone always comes up with the bollocks hen house argument when it comes to hunting/cruelty to foxes
Whether you think they are beautiful animals or disgusting vermin it still make a you an evil fucker to kill one (unless you are licenses to do so and it’s absolutely necessary )
And yes, I have seen a hen house after a fox has been in AND a fox killed my beloved pet geese when I was a child

Jonb6 · 26/12/2019 12:35

Foxes are not nice cuddly animals, they are vicious killers. To those who say they couldn't contemplate killing an animal, you must live in a town or city. What do you think happens to the sheep cows horses goats you see in the fields? Don't you own animals? What do you think happens to cats and dogs when they are old and their quality of life deteriorates. Hmm

WhatshouldIdo123 · 26/12/2019 12:36

@Jonb6 off FFS That old chestnut. Try a bit harder Hmm

CraicMammy · 26/12/2019 12:37

And to think three weeks ago he was campaigning for the Green Party in the General Election

LakieLady · 26/12/2019 12:39

Good luck with the reporting.

Police forces routinely turn a blind eye to both illegal hunting and assaults on volunteers gathering video evidence of the same.

They wouldn't even give DSS a crime number when a hunt trashed fencing put up around a private wood he used to manage, and nailed a fox carcase to a nearby tree.

chomalungma · 26/12/2019 12:39

No matter what you think - you have to wonder why someone would post that on Twitter.

He knows how it works.

birdsdestiny · 26/12/2019 12:39

Absolutely Jon all the animals I have owned have been clubbed to death by a vet when their health deteriorated.

LoveNote · 26/12/2019 12:40

i grew up with nearby farms

you have to kill animals.....its how it is

we all kill its/mice quite happily when our homes become infested. the drama on here if theres a mouse or spider is laughable....mumsnetters are happy to kill then, when it suits them

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 26/12/2019 12:40

He's truly a weapons grade attention seeker yep

& a misogynistic arse

MrMeSeeks · 26/12/2019 12:41

Ahhh yes, lets compare clubbing a fox to death to slaughtering a cow or sheep, that’s the same.
When my cat gets old, shall i just club it’s brain in?

LoveNote · 26/12/2019 12:41

birds a rock or anything handy will do. rabbits with myxi in the wild usually. no attractive white coated vets with syringes full of sleepy medicine available out on the moors

MrMeSeeks · 26/12/2019 12:41

Jonb6 off FFS That old chestnut. Try a bit harder
Grin

Saddler · 26/12/2019 12:41

@LakieLady volunteers gathering evidence in balaclavas 😂

SourAndSnippy · 26/12/2019 12:42

I’ve had to kill a pet animal before. It was that or let it suffer a lot of pain before dying. It had been hit by a car and I needed to take immediate action. I didn’t like doing it but it was an easy decision. If I had waited for help it would have only prolonged the animals suffering. Maybe it was something similar in this case, we don’t know the facts yet.
