Apologies if you do it but I cannot stand the "guess who has been to our house" posts. Is it just me that gets irritated by them? I am pregnant so may be my hormones but I have seen 5 on fb already and it's Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day! Also, I find them quite braggy and think people only do it just to show off how much they have spoilt their children. I hope I don't turn into one of them 😂🙈

I like the pj posts actually.

Zzzz19 · 26/12/2019 21:23

It’s the elf ones that get me.

letmeinthroughyourwindow · 26/12/2019 21:23

"The adults I associate with are generally kind and supportive."

I'm kind and supportive, just not to braggarts.

LaurieMarlow · 26/12/2019 21:36

The key thing is I don't have to engage but I can still judge.

Why bother spending time sitting in judgement of people you don’t know from Adam? Who (in fairness) are not doing anything illegal or particularly objectionable (given that no one is forced to view their posts).

Haven’t you got better things to do?

nearlythere12 · 26/12/2019 21:55

Haven’t you got better things to do?

Don't you? I'm participating in a thread on mumsnet, same as you.

LaurieMarlow · 26/12/2019 21:56

I’m just shooting the breeze.

Not doling out judgement on people I have never and will never meet.

nearlythere12 · 26/12/2019 22:04

Not doling out judgement on people I have never and will never meet.

So you're not judging me?

letmeinthroughyourwindow · 26/12/2019 22:07

"Not doling out judgement on people I have never and will never meet."

Yes you are. You're judging people for judging, and for posting on mn.

I think we should all just agree to disagree.

Some people find bragging unnecessary and think it would actually be easily possible to tweak an annual brag just slightly to be more palatable and considerate, and will endure being called nasty and mean and judgmental in order to uphold that opinion on a discussion forum.

Some people are so wedded to their brag that they can't let go of the concept and will fight to the death to uphold their right to do so, and anyone objecting just needs to get a grip or unfriend them anyway. They don't actually like it being called a brag at all. It is merely an opportunity to share a photo of this year's themed wrapping, a way of communicating excitement and building happy memories. Sure, they could do all of that in other ways, but why should they, it's their sm and they'll post what they damn well please.

LaurieMarlow · 26/12/2019 22:08

So you're not judging me?

Not particularly. I’m more baffled by you than judgemental of you.

letmeinthroughyourwindow · 26/12/2019 22:08

I hope I've summarised that accurately.

letmeinthroughyourwindow · 26/12/2019 22:10

"Not particularly. I’m more baffled by you than judgemental of you."

You do sound quite judgmental of the alternative opinion tbf.

LolaSmiles · 26/12/2019 22:11

Thankfully, I've never come across the type of people that seem to frequent Mumsnet in real life. The adults I associate with are generally kind and supportive, happy and easy-going. Unlike here

Do you not think that it's more likely that even the supportive and easy going people you know offline have things that annoy them a little, and it is just the case they don't mention them offline because they're small things?

People will share minor annoyances online even though they'd not mention then offline because whilst they're annoying, it's hardly worth creating an offline conflict.

Unless of course you have access to the thoughts of everyone you know and can guarantee that everyone you know offline us one of the holier than thou mumsnetters who never finds anything irritating or annoying and would never dream of thinking anything other than gushing affirmation for anything another person does.

nearlythere12 · 26/12/2019 22:14

🤣🤣🤣

LaurieMarlow · 26/12/2019 22:16

Just to be clear, I’ve never done anything like this, I’m barely on SM.

I just don’t get this wading in and judging the crap out of people you don’t know.

You’ve never met these people.

You’ve no idea what’s behind their actions (which could encompass a whole host of things beyond ‘bragging’).

You’ve also no idea what the norms of their social circle are and what their own friends deem acceptable.

Yet from that lack of knowledge you’re going to sit in judgement Confused

Lxx16 · 26/12/2019 22:20

Well, in all honesty I didn't expect this thread to turn sour. I posted to see if it was just me that got irritated looking at a massive pile of presents hours before their children would see them.
As I've said, the pj pics, the pics of the children opening them. They don't bother me and I enjoy seeing them! It is just the pile of wrapped presents. I just cannot see the point except for wanting a 'like' or a comment saying 'wow' etc.
I also did say apologies if you do this but I still stand by saying I find them quite braggy and they just seek validation. However, I also sought validation when I posted on sm with my pregnancy announcement, or when I first moved into my home but they are life events - something I am proud of and I'm sharing with my bf, our families and friends in which they share the joy. I just cannot see how a pile of presents will make you joyful, hence why I have said post a pic of your DC opening presents. Very different and that is something in which I will.smile at. I did not intend for a slanging match just for differences in opinions! Agree to disagree and as pps have said - your sm so continue doing whatever the heck you want!

However tonight I have unfriended 2 people and unfollowed 3 people. The parents, baby and extended family in matchin Elf pj's - including gran and grandpa - was a tad too much

Not sure why this tickled me so much. Love it!Grin

CactusAndCacti · 27/12/2019 08:50

I have someone that I prefer to see the wrapped presents, it is a whole less braggy then seeing what is inside them.

Tumbleweed101 · 27/12/2019 09:35

I post mine but mainly because I’m a single parent so have no adult in the house to share that moment of quiet and readiness with before the chaos the next morning. I have friends/family keeping me company via the internet rather than in the house.

I also like looking back on previous years and seeing how it changes year to year.

ChocolateTeapots1 · 27/12/2019 10:15

I didn’t post a before picture the night before but I did share pics of our children finding out “he’s been” (I wrote that too!!) and pictures of them unwrapping presents, considering how many people sent our children things it’s the easiest way to share. Everyone (who sent stuff) asks for pics so stick them on fb is the easiest. I love seeing Christmas morning pics, it isn’t about bragging I just love seeing the joy and excitement on my friends and family’s children’s faces. You could say the pictures of the grand Christmas Day table and photos of food are the same, look at our house, look at our food... I don’t think that, I just think it’s someone sharing the one day the entire family comes together, it’s nice.

Bluerussian · 27/12/2019 16:23

I haven't seen any such pictures and am still waiting waiting to know who 'he' is who has 'been' :-).

Stripyhoglets1 · 27/12/2019 16:33

I love the pictures on Christmas eve. That quiet momemt when the children hace all gone to sleep and everything is ready. Mine are grown now so no Santa but it's still a lovely feeling and I love seeing others pictures too. It's what Facebook for tbh!

MrsEnglishh · 28/12/2019 11:19

@bluerussian Really? You can't deduct who might have brought presents on Christmas Eve? Confused

Bluerussian · 29/12/2019 09:33

I know who bought me presents and I know to whom I gave :-).
'He's been', sounds a bit sinister to me and I'd like to know who he is so I can avoid him.
