To be uncomfortable around topless sunbathers?

Went away for a bit of winter sun in a Spanish island. First day there, we were sat at a table - two middle aged women and her teenage DS and two young DC pull up loungers right near us. One woman proceeds to whip her bikini off - has been topless for hours now, walking round, up to the bar, swimming etc.

She’s the only one doing it and it’s a very family orientated resort, seems weird to do it around her teenage DS! It’s not 18-30 territory (and I’m in that bracket, not an old prude!).

Aibu to feel uncomfortable??

@Wildorchidz - her sunbed was maximum 2 feet from my chair. She pitched up well after us too. Didn’t appreciate my enjoyment being curtailed, ie having to move, just so she could have her boobs out. Ho hum —maybe I need another gin—

I completely agree. I think it's totally weird behaviour around a bar, swimming pool, etc.

If you want go to topless, go to a topless beach.

I still am shocked when I see women walking anywhere but the beach in just their swimsuits. With heels on, I just want to laugh too, it looks ridiculous.

Straycatstrut · 22/12/2019 17:01

Sunbathing fine, can understand her not wanting her boobs highlighted in a different colour to the rest of her body.

Prancing about like she's at a nudist place not fine at at family place. Just use one of those coverup wrap things. Sounds like she's doing it for attention.

CustardySergeant · 22/12/2019 17:03

"And here was me thinking Ireland was in Europe...🤔"

You're not the only one.

Endeavour1971 · 22/12/2019 17:04

They're just breasts. Get over it. Men with disgusting, hairy moobs do it, why can't women? I was recently told to cover up by hotel staff in Bulgaria after lying quietly and without anyone batting an eyelid... I was made to feel ashamed and sexually discriminated against for being a woman. Shocking in 2019

StinkyXmasCheese · 22/12/2019 17:07

Shoved in your face?
Yes it 100% is your hang up.

So what if people are looking at her boobs instead of her face? If she doesn't mind then why should you?

I have mine out all the time to breastfeed and don't think twice about it, I don't cover up and I don't see why I should have to, even if I was sunbathing. What's the issue really? Omg you saw some skin.

We all need to get a massive grip on ourselves and stop sexualising something meant to nurture a child!

Daisydoola · 22/12/2019 17:08

My Nan does this. She's 79.

And yes, it's v awkward. DH hates it.

Grapefruity · 22/12/2019 17:10

Since when is Ireland not part of Europe? Hmm

AgeLikeWine · 22/12/2019 17:12

They are only boobs. 50% of the world’s population own a pair, or will own a pair. It’s 2019, FFS. I can’t believe there is still so much prudishness in this day & age.

LuluBellaBlue · 22/12/2019 17:14

I can’t believe you felt you had to move because she was sunbathing topless near you.

You do recognise its you that has a hang up about this and she was not BU?

BeardedMum · 22/12/2019 17:18

Lol you write as if you are 95 years old OP

Flashinggreen · 22/12/2019 17:19

Each to their own but my 10 YO DS was most put out on holiday this year if he saw any ‘half naked mummys’ I think my nudity at home is enough for him 😂

Lweji · 22/12/2019 17:21

If you want go to topless, go to a topless beach.

There's no such thing as a topless beach in Spain. Just beaches, where people do go topless. Like around swimming pools.

Better keep off the South if topless bothers you.

Lweji · 22/12/2019 17:22

Do you get upset by moobs too?

Rosehip10 · 22/12/2019 17:26

Are you lower middle class OP?

SomewhereInbetween1 · 22/12/2019 17:28

OP, I'm your age and this bothers me too. I can't really articulate why apart from that fact that I'm pretty modest and cover up because I prefer it that way. My mum used to sunbathe topless and I hated it. It might be a generational thing, I don't know

damnthatanxiety · 22/12/2019 17:31

Just be you ffs. If you are modest, then cover up. If you are not then display your wares. Who cares? Seriously, there are more important things to concern ourselves with. Like the content of people's minds and hearts. Who the hell cares if someone flaps their boobies or not.

Divebar · 22/12/2019 17:32

I used to love sunbathing topless in my 20s. It seems to have become unfashionable for reasons I don’t understand ( since women in The media eg singers seem to be wearing fewer clothes nowadays). It feels so much nicer than being trussed up in underwired swimwear... which is what I wear as a 36G. If I could have gone topless on the beach this summer I really would have loved it but sadly it was a definite no go in my part of the US. OP you need to unclench. YABU.

MondeoFan · 22/12/2019 17:34

I don't like it and I'm not not a prude but to don't think it's necessary

TheReluctantCountess · 22/12/2019 17:34

We were on Margate beach in the summer and there were two young ladies right behind us who were sunbathing topless. No problem (I didn’t even notice for a long time) but my teenage son declares it to be the best day ever.

NameChangeNugget · 22/12/2019 17:36

You sound very uptight OP. What harm is she doing you?

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 22/12/2019 17:37

I hope she put sunscreen on, sunburnt nips hurt like hell.

I'd be fine. My norks would flop either side of the sunbed and be in the shade.

Talkingmouse · 22/12/2019 17:38

Wish I was topless on a beach in Spain right now...

happycamper11 · 22/12/2019 17:40

I'm just amazed it's warm enough to sunbathe at all in Spain in late December
