To think that there are too many personal insults and attacks on Tory voters

I’m really sick of it now. I don’t log on here to be called a cunt, told I hate disabled people and want to ruin the NHS.

I’m interested as to whether others feel the same or if it is just me. If it’s just me, I think I’ll piss off.

Yes its not wonder they preferred Boris who frankly was given an easy ride in the media compared with Corbyn who has had 4 years of utter abuse from them.

Imagine if Corbyn had made the claims about hospitals ?

BertrandRussell · 28/12/2019 13:17

Yes- it’s interesting that Johnson never said “Defeat Labour”. It was always “Defeat Jeremy Corbyn”

derxa · 28/12/2019 13:21

compared with Corbyn who has had 4 years of utter abuse from them.
Some of it richly deserved.
BJ had a campaign underpinned by a strong easily understood message, JC didn't.
The fact is that we live in a democracy and that means each vote is equal. That sticks in the craw of liberal intellectuals.

BertrandRussell · 28/12/2019 13:28

“ BJ had a campaign underpinned by a strong easily understood message, JC didn't.”
It may have been strong and easy to understand, but it was also simplistic and duplicitous. I agree Labour ran a crap campaign.

malylis · 28/12/2019 13:35

It doesn't stick in anyone's craw.

Some of the abuse was deserved, the majority wasn't. But you know lets discount the media campaign against Corbyn and the easy ride Boris gets, it had nothing to do with it.

I don't know if anyone has read this article about Tom Watson. He emphasises Corbyn's personal kindness but kindness doesn't win election campaigns. Dominic Cummings ran a brilliant campaign and Labour headed by Seumus Milne did not.

BertrandRussell · 28/12/2019 13:46

Oh and democracy doesn’t “stick in my craw” . An extraordinary accusation often made by supporters of the party that illegally shut down Parliament, lied to the Queen about it and is now considering ways of curbing the powers of the Suprene Courr!

BertrandRussell · 28/12/2019 13:47

*Supreme Court

malylis · 28/12/2019 13:49

Yes those voting Tory and sounding off about democracy have massive cognitive dissonance.

CendrillonSings · 28/12/2019 13:59

Oh and democracy doesn’t “stick in my craw” . An extraordinary accusation often made by supporters of the party that illegally shut down Parliament, lied to the Queen about it and is now considering ways of curbing the powers of the Suprene Courr!

Since the electorate had the immediate opportunity to pass judgement on the Conservatives’ actions and returned them to power in a landslide, it would appear that they rather approved of those supposedly “undemocratic” actions, does it not?

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:04

Hmmm, there was no specific proposal about limiting the powers of the supreme court in the manifesto.

Its also strange that people who wanted British judges to rule on British law have objected to this so much.

CendrillonSings · 28/12/2019 14:10

Hmmm, there was no specific proposal about limiting the powers of the supreme court in the manifesto.

The party that was ruled to have prorogued Parliament illegally by the unanimous verdict of the Supreme Court was - less than 3 months later - returned with a thumping majority and the highest national vote share since 1979.

Democratic endorsements don’t get more emphatic than that: Boris fought the Law, and the Boris won! Wink

SubordinateThatClause · 28/12/2019 14:11

Returned them to power with a landslide?
Hmm - 53% of the electorate voted for parties proposing a different way forward, for parties advocating at least a PV. And a % of the con votes were anti-Corbyn rather than anything else. Spin it as you wish but this is not a nation behind BJ and his policies.

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:13

No he didn't they ruled against him

Good to see that you are so for democracy you are for the unlawful poroging of parliament.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 28/12/2019 14:17

it would appear that they rather approved of those supposedly “undemocratic” actions, does it not?

That really isnt a good thing

The british public isn’t generally a law abiding lot...they decide which rules and laws they want to follow

MarySidney · 28/12/2019 14:17

....lied to the Queen....

Only the Prime Minister and the Queen know what was said. Everyone else is speculating.

CendrillonSings · 28/12/2019 14:18

No he didn't they ruled against him

Obviously- I already said that. The point is that 3 months after the Supreme Court passed judgement, the electorate rendered their own decisive verdict. And the one thing that outranks the courts in a democracy is the electorate.

mastertomsmum · 28/12/2019 14:21

All of those nailing their colours to the mast and putting their heads above the parapet risk this, whatever their affiliation. The nation has become shouty since the whole Brexit thing kicked off

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:26

Except the electorate are only asked on a few occasions on an issue.

The courts are part of our democratic system and what they did was entirely right, and what the government did was wrong.

But hey, you back the government because you think its giving you what you want and you will threaten democratic process to do that. Sounds good eh.

CendrillonSings · 28/12/2019 14:32

Spin it as you wish but this is not a nation behind BJ and his policies.

If you’re keen on the rule of law, then you should acknowledge that our existing electoral system is the one that possesses a full legal and constitutional mandate. Other electoral systems that exist only in your head do not Smile

Pumpkinpie1 · 28/12/2019 14:42

Strange how it’s ok to ignore the rising number of deaths of vulnerable people , and countess reports , blatant discrimination like wind rush but as soon as it’s pointed out Tory voters whine being bullied

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:44

Its that victim status all right wingers have, it fuels the alt right too.

Losers.

SubordinateThatClause · 28/12/2019 15:36

@Cendrillion I didn't say he had no mandate. The 'idea' that this landslide means the nation is wholeheartedly behind him is bollocks.

SubordinateThatClause · 28/12/2019 15:38

Interesting that the election result under the FPTP system is ok but the courts, which form an important part of our parliamentary democracy, are wrong.

MaButterface · 28/12/2019 15:49

@malylis so Corbyn is a saint? I can't stand Boris, but how do you explain Corbyn's lies, and that photo of him in an empty train? He ain't no saint. I wouldn't trust him to run my bath.
