Boris Watch - Thread 1

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 19:11

Well, it's been done for Trump since he got elected.
No doubt some people will complain it's on AIBU - but it's a place with traffic.

So let's use this to keep an eye on the changes under Boris.

First Thing:

Boris introduces clause in the withdrawal agreement so the UK must leave with WTO rules if there is no trade agreement with the EU by the end of 2020

www.theguardian.com/business/2019/dec/17/pound-slides-to-pre-election-levels-in-wake-of-bid-to-outlaw-brexit-extension

Feel free to comment and add things that you notice changing. The Trump threads are at 97 now.

YABU - This belongs in Politics. If you don't get the traffic you crave there then maybe it's because people are bored of talking politics in the Mumsnet echo chamber.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 19:13

his belongs in Politics

The Trump threads have been here for 3 years.

One thread to track the changes is not much to ask in a place which gets traffic.

Yabu, take your left wing propaganda into politics.

Cheesecake53 · 17/12/2019 19:14

The OP is nbu. Sadly we need this thread..and here, too.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 19:15

abu, take your left wing propaganda into politics

It is a fact that Johnson has said we will leave on Dec 2020.

No propaganda here. Unless people don't want others to be aware and to track changes under Boris.

Enshrined NHS funding increases in law?

Treaclepie19 · 17/12/2019 19:16

I agree, yanbu.
Surely one thread is better than several?

yolofish · 17/12/2019 19:16

Nah why should this go in politics? and what right does anyone have to say where it 'should' be?

The new govt - whether 'you' chose it or not - should be held to account, and with a decent opposition (ha ha) it should in fact expect to be, and be prepared to stand up for its policies.

Nice to see Nicky Morgan going to the Lords...

I'm in.

dontcallmelen · 17/12/2019 19:16

Yy we definitely need this thread here, can we have a lie-o-meter as well please, already told a few in his cabinet meeting earlier today.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 19:17

Enshrined NHS funding increases in law

That's true

YANBU at all - but the ‘Why should I tell you what the benefits of Brexit are?’ crowd will tell you that you are because they won’t admit that Boris Johnson is a liar.

ethelfleda · 17/12/2019 19:18

YADNBU OP.
I can’t bear people thinking it is up to them to police what is posted in this forum or isn’t.
This forum is full of politics at the moment - you can’t silence one half and allow the other half to post whatever they like.

I’m following with interest.

ethelfleda · 17/12/2019 19:20

Enshrined NHS funding increases in law

Thankfully, Boris has full respect for anything which is enshrined in law.

Oh hang on...

MissGiddyPants · 17/12/2019 19:21

I don’t understand (thick Northerner). He said he’d get Brexit done so what’s your problem with that?

Zac Goldsmith to be elevated to the Lords for not getting elected (so much for getting away from unelected bureaucrats) and Boris intends to stuff the Lords with his allies to water down their scrutiny of his actions. www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/zac-goldsmith-to-be-elevated-to-house-of-lords-and-will-keep-cabinet-position-despite-losing-his-seat/17/12/

yolofish · 17/12/2019 19:23

Zac Goldsmith, that's the one I'd forgotten along with Nicky Morgan. Thank you cardi.

thecatfromjapan · 17/12/2019 19:23
Thanks
CrissmussMockers · 17/12/2019 19:25

That would be Zac Goldsmith the Islamophobic racist rejected by Londoners.

DaydreamingDay · 17/12/2019 19:29

Following with interest. Particularly interested in developments with the border/back stop in Ireland. Johnson wants to offload NI despite lying that he wants to protect the Union.

Girlmeetsbook · 17/12/2019 19:29

Boris going after the BBC via it's revenue - decriminalizing not paying licence fee:

HiHoToffee · 17/12/2019 19:29

The Trump threads are very informative so thanks for starting this one for Johnson. No problem with it being in AIBU.

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 19:31
