Workhouses or the death penalty? I can see the People's Government deciding that either or both would be a good way to further entrench their power...

How about reintroducing top hats in Parliament? Or go one better and make women MPs sit in the gallery so that the boys can talk about Serious Issues?

Antigonads · 13/12/2019 21:32

Hunting. Yes please.

Frequency · 13/12/2019 21:36

I've been saying for years workhouses will be brought back. It'll be under the guise of workfare 2.0. People will get to live near their £land for the rate of the local HA in exchange for providing £land with free labour.

Of course, it will have a fancy name and people who are disabled will be exempt except the disabled people who are classed as not disabled by non-medically trained 'professionals' aka Atos.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 13/12/2019 21:42

I wouldn't be so shocked to see the death penalty brought in, the amount of people calling for it for terrorists (who survive their attacks) and for child abusers/ rapists.

I abhor the thought of it being brought back and don't think it's ever ok to take a life, I hope that people wouldn't back it but then again I once thought there was no way the British people would vote for Brexit or the American's for Trump so what do I know.

EL2019 · 13/12/2019 21:42

I can’t wait for raw sewage to be pumped straight into the sea like the good old days.

Oh and child chimney sweeps.

HoHoHoik · 13/12/2019 21:44

People like FIL who has arthritis in both knees, is on the waiting list for a hip replacement, has had a kidney transplant, is blind in one eye, retires in two years time and was found fit for work? He regularly gets shit off his "job coach" for not managing to find employment and they seem genuinely shocked that no one wants to hire a clapped out bloke in his 60s who often leers at you like a pirate because he thinks if he screws up his eyes and leans forward it'll somehow magically restore his vision. He has an interview with fucking Bounty next week to be a Bounty "lady", popped up on the system as mandatory for him to apply. This is the man who told the actual Bounty lady on the postnatal ward to fuck off after she asked me where my baby was (special care) and commented that I looked very tired (sepsis and PPH). It's not going to go well.

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/12/2019 21:44

What the fuck are you lot going on about now? No wonder so many people were turned off from voting labour with this kind of bollocks being spouted. And I did vote for them!

Snowjive2 · 13/12/2019 21:47

KenDodd you are right, that was chilling.

longtimelurkerhelen · 13/12/2019 21:51

Page 48 is the most worrying thing in their manifesto. I was very surprised there wasn't much mention of it in the election.

OP I pick workhouse's, as pp said we have them already.

ChristinaMarlowe · 13/12/2019 21:55

Why are people who voted for this mentality now saying workhouses are an over reaction?! I defended the intelligence of the majority this morning but now I'm regretting it. You voted for this kind of thing. What're you expecting?! I just hope you only voted Tory if your kids are in private school and, above all, you are fully paid up with private healthcare with zero need for the NHS. If so then why not?
Now, anyone that needs tax credits to top up their income but voted for Boris - Brilliant. Remember me and how daft I sounded when it comes back to bite you. Merry Christmas Xmas Wink

ReanimatedSGB · 13/12/2019 22:07

Those of you whose approach is basically 'Calm down, snowflakes, it's only a Conservative government', are you not even a little concerned about:
Several high-profile veteran Tories going on record with their distrust of Fucko and his crew?
The fact that Fucko, at least previously unelected by the 'people' he's so enthusiastic about, illegally shut down parliament and lied to the actual Head of State?
Page 48 in the manifesto, which basically sets out a plan to remove and destroy any official body or organisation which might stop Fucko doing whatever he fancies?
And, finally, his appearance this morning in front of banners declaring him and his gang of vicious shitheads the People's Government?
Doesn't it smell to you, even faintly, of 'Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer'?

Death penalty applied on the spot to burglars (get to shoot intruders in order to 'defend your property').

Snowjive2 · 13/12/2019 22:19

What this election has brought home to me is that most people are very poorly informed. There are some whose lives are fully occupied making ends meet and keeping the wolf from the door. But most people just choose to spend their leisure time in ways that don’t include informing themselves about major issues. As a result I wager that the vast majority don’t know what page 48 is, and if they did, they wouldn’t understand because they have only the vaguest notions about what Parliament, the executive and the judiciary do and why. You can’t sum up the horror of page 48 in a 3 word slogan so the media didn’t even try.

When we have so much information available to us these days with so very little effort, I can’t help thinking that there’s just no excuse for that level of ignorance.

Disclaimer: this might not apply to Brexit. All anyone can be expected to know about that is that it’s an utter arse of an idea. Beyond that, the complexity of it is a complete headfuck.

Andysbestadventure · 13/12/2019 22:20

I feel Boris is too egotistical to want to go down in history as an absolute cunt with the masses. All of the shit you're harping on about would affect his new core voters FFS. Why would he want to lose a majority again at the next election?

Bluesrunthegame · 13/12/2019 22:43

Why would he want to lose a majority again at the next election?

The new voters have seen Tory policy over the past 9 years and have voted for it. Why should the Tory party change anything? They have a whole lot of new supporters, some of whom may have been affected by changes to benefits, but who obviously liked the changes, so my guess is more of the same, but maybe worse. It seems to have been popular.

The last 9 years have adversely affected his new core voters, yet they still voted for him. I know it was generally a two finger salute to Labour and JC, but I do wonder why them and not the Brexit Party for example. (Though they did appallingly in my constituency) It is interesting to see though that locally the Tories actually gained very little (less than 1%) the 'lost' labour instead going to a local independent.

I think that a lot of people (locally at least in what was labour strongholds) disconnect parliament and the local MP, so if something 'bad' happens in the area or affects them it is the fault of the Labour MP, therefore if you get rid of the labour MP all will be great again. I may be way off the mark though.

KenDodd · 13/12/2019 22:57

I agree. The Tories have also learnt that they can lie with impunity, the electorate will not punish them for it. Also, voters won't want to look like they've been taken for fools so anything that follows voters they will say 'they knew what they voted for, and this is what we wanted'.

BingoLittlesUncle · 13/12/2019 23:43

You do realise it is this sort of rubbish (to use no stronger term) that has helped Labour to 4 election defeats in a row.

Ah, another whinge thread.

May I offer you a copy of my latest book The Neverending Tory. It was written following discussions with a time traveller from the future who explained to me that Labour never once got into power in the 54 years following the 2019 election.

sobeyondthehills · 14/12/2019 06:05

I was informed today by a Tory voter to ignore the Manifesto cause they all lie and its based on nothing. It wont be remembered in 5 years time

So thats a relief, when I rock up to a food bank

chomalungma · 14/12/2019 08:39

It wont be remembered in 5 years time

The thing about having 'soundbite' phrases is that people remember them.

Get Brexit done
50,000 more nurses
50 million more GP appointments
40 new hospitals
20,000 more police
Gigabit broadband

Easily memorable soundbites. Easy to challenge at the next election.

motorcyclenumptiness · 14/12/2019 08:56

European Convention on Human Rights will be the next thing to go. Bringing back capital punishment would be a real vote-winner - just think of the cost savings.
This really is the worst of times.

CactusAndCacti · 14/12/2019 08:59

Ah, another whinge thread

This thread has no effect on you, hide it if you are that bothered. Democracy means there will be an opposition and they are not going to go silent because they lost.
