To think instant coffee is not a disaster?!

Hi all

Just had a friend over for a coffee and I mentioned my Nespresso machine was broken, so I only had Instant coffee. (Azera). She looked horrified, wrinkled her nose and said 'Oh god no. No one I know still drinks Instant. God, I hope you get that sorted before the birthday on Sunday or everyone will complain'.

Ok...so now I am totally paranoid. For me it is not a big deal. If someone only has instant, I drink it. However, for all the coffee snobs out there.....am I making a fatal mistake if I dont have my Nespresso machine back in time for my daughters birthday on Sunday? In total 9 kids and their parents are coming over to our place. This is actually stressing me out. I don't want coffee-gate come Monday morning!

Well, all I drink is instant unless I go to a cage and guess what? I look forward to my morning instant coffee so yanbu op

Sawwhet · 13/12/2019 22:06

Cafe

ittooshallpass · 13/12/2019 22:08

I bet most of them wouldn't even be able to tell! What a snob your 'friend' is.

Whoops75 · 13/12/2019 22:08

Only drink instant and I apologize to no one.
It’s what I like despite trying several fancier coffees.

SouthwarkSkaters · 13/12/2019 22:11

I’m from a country where coffee is a massive part of the culture. My sister is a proper coffee snob - black, no sugar, Starbucks/Costa is dirty water etc - and even she thinks Azera is perfectly fine. Not better than freshly brewed filter coffee, but fine.

DesignedForLife · 13/12/2019 22:12

Hate instant. Total disaster. I’d be much politer and ask for tea instead though.

GiloulovesLaure · 13/12/2019 22:13

Oh ffs, has nobody any manners any more? Just drink what you’re offered, or don’t, but don’t bitch about it or look down on the host.
OP, just buy a cafetière or a decent instant. And no, I haven’t RTFT cos page one gave me the rage. In my defence, was following the election until after 04:00, so not at my best. Soz.

superfandango · 13/12/2019 22:13

Not all instant coffee is created equal. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a coffee wanker but I’ll happily neck a decent black instant coffee for a quick caffeine hit.

SerenDippitty · 13/12/2019 22:16

I like both instant and fresh. I think of them as different drinks. Sometimes an instant is what I fancy.

celtiethree · 13/12/2019 22:17

I like instant!!! Actually prefer it. I have my brand and stick to it. Would never buy a pod machine. No one has ever refused.

Nearly47 · 13/12/2019 22:18

Get a mocha machine. Perfect coffee on the hob. Italian style

DilysPrice · 13/12/2019 22:19

Whatever has become of MN?

You might think that my CafeDirect freeze dried instant tastes vile, but its manufacturers haven’t sacrificed the lives of thousands of babies in their pursuit of profit, so there’s that on its side.

I can’t believe I’m the first poster to point that out.

Nearly47 · 13/12/2019 22:20

Sorry it spelled MoccaBlush

Gilead · 13/12/2019 22:21

Some of us can only afford instant.

GorkyMcPorky · 13/12/2019 22:22

I prefer Azera to filter Confused What brands are you all using? No way I'm starting on plastic pods.

missanony · 13/12/2019 22:25

Coffee bags?

5zeds · 13/12/2019 22:26

How rude is she???!!! Shock

I don’t drink instant because I get kidney stones and it’s would tip my oxilates so high I’d have to skip meat for the rest of the day. I’d just pretend I prefer tea, but am now wondering if people think I’m the biggest coffee snob on earth. Blush

Nearly47 · 13/12/2019 22:28

I drink instant coffee but don't really like it. I don't own an electric coffee machine and wouldn't buy one. At home is filter or Mocca coffee. At work I will have instant as there is nothing else available. And wouldn't be keen on instant coffee after a meal. But not a disaster...

eaglejulesk · 13/12/2019 22:29

Talk about first world problems!! I couldn't care less about what coffee I'm offered, but even if I did I wouldn't dream of commenting if someone offered me instant, I would gratefully drink it. It was incredibly rude of your friend and she's a snob. And if "everyone" complains at the party then stuff them - the party is for your daughter anyway.

AdriannaP · 13/12/2019 22:35

I wouldn’t drink instant coffee - it’s disgusting. And I love my coffee.

Get a cafetière.

GoGoLego · 13/12/2019 22:38

Compared to the utter faff proper coffee is to make instant is perfectly acceptable

Having said that our tap water is tasting awful atm, and so any coffee made with drinkable water is stuff of dreams rn

81Byerley · 13/12/2019 22:40

I love coffee, but not the stuff from those home machines. I have friends with them, and I hate the coffee, it's always a bit flavourless and never hot enough (3 different machines) . If I'm out, I drink Costa Winter blend cappuccino, and at home I like coffee made in a cafetiere with hot milk, or Gold Blend, very strong, with cold milk. Give them Gold Blend, they won't know!

Pinkshoelace · 13/12/2019 22:44

I thought Nespresso machines were considered 'naff' by coffee snobs? So I don't know why your friend is moaning.

I personally like instant coffee and 'real' coffee. There are some very nice instant coffee brands now that have really good flavour.

blueshoes · 13/12/2019 22:48

Coffee snobs are so tiresome.

cosytoaster · 13/12/2019 22:49

Haven't rtft but bemused by the number of self-confessed "coffee snobs" who think they're a cut above using Nespresso Grin

Cafetiere with a decent bag of coffee is a good option, but failing that instant is fine.
