I’m hoping Keir Starmer

Intelligent, center left and no concerns over his connections and political stance

Sensibly stayed in the background recently let’s hope he puts himself forward

I shall be rejoining the party again

OP posts:
vickibee · 13/12/2019 10:07

Anyone who appeals to the electorate will do

Puppymum2018 · 13/12/2019 10:07

I’m in the please come back David Miliband camp........if only.....sliding doors moment between him and his brother wish I was on the other side of the doors!!

But agree Keir or Jess would be a better choice. For some reason I can’t stand Rebecca LB she just talks like a younger version of JC - can’t warm to her at all!

Trewser · 13/12/2019 10:08

Is who I'd like. Sadly it will be someone awful like Rebecca LB or shouty like Angela rayner.

It's irrelevant anyway as Labour now don't have a hope for 10 years.

vivacian · 13/12/2019 10:11

I feel about Labour the way I feel about the Democratic Party. How fucking difficult is it to find one single person who is intelligent, compassionate, charismatic and electable?? We only need one.

Hereyougosandwiches · 13/12/2019 10:12

Keir Starmer, Jess Phillips or Yvette Cooper for me.

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 10:13

Keir yep

fedup21 · 13/12/2019 10:13

Where did David Miliband go and why?

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 13/12/2019 10:20

@fedup21 David Miliband is in the US working for a major charity. His brother stabbed him in the back and did a deal with the unions to be elected leader. That was the beginning of the end for Labour. I don’t think he would return to British politics which is a real shame.

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 10:21

No one can say for sure but had Labour gone with David Miliband way back when who knows how different it would be now

The whole Ed thing was irritating too

minesagin37 · 13/12/2019 10:24

Kier for me but DA would be hopeless. Muttering and mumbling through!

Expo · 13/12/2019 10:24

David Miliband. That was THE SLIDING DOORS moment for this country.

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 10:24

It really was

Expo · 13/12/2019 10:25

Ed also changed membership rules which has led to this momentum takeover

loobyloo1234 · 13/12/2019 10:31

Shame we've lost Andy Burnham to Manchester. I think he would make a great PM. Cooper or Starmer for me

thepeopleversuswork · 13/12/2019 10:35

Tricky...

Got to be Kier for me although I fear he will be seen as too metro elite given the results last night.

Would like a woman but can't stand Emily Thornberry. I am a big fan of Jess Phillips but I don't know if she's statesmanlike enough. Diane Abbott I'm afraid would be a disaster. Yes she's been the victim of horrible racist bullying and I feel awful for her but she is just too associated with Corbynism and just doesn't have her shit together enough of the time to be reliable.

Trewser · 13/12/2019 10:36

Did someone seriously suggest Diane Abbott Shock

anxioussue · 13/12/2019 10:55

Jess Philips please

underneaththeash · 13/12/2019 11:02

If you join the Labour Party you get to choose...(and hopefully someone more moderate and we can stop these extreme politics)

join.labour.org.uk

As a swing voter, I also decided to join the conservative too!

Coldilox · 13/12/2019 11:23

I’d be happy with Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner, Lisa Nandy or Yvette Cooper (although I don’t think she’ll go for it)

AGnu · 13/12/2019 11:30

How long does one have to have been a member of a political party before one becomes eligible to vote for a leader?

Somanysocks · 13/12/2019 11:30

I always thought David Milliband would have been better than his brother as leader.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 13/12/2019 11:37

Realistically Keir Starmer or Yvette Cooper. I do think it's a shame that both Andy Burnham and Sadiq Khan (understandably) took sideways steps in the lMomentum madness, as I think both would be excellent as well.

Trewser · 13/12/2019 11:38

Not Keir Starmer. He permanently looks like a rabbit in the headlights.

MojoMoon · 13/12/2019 11:40

Each party has slightly different rules on the cut off point for length of time needed to be a member before voting in a leadership election.

Corbyn came to power in the party because the rules were changed to allow non- members to vote (you had to register a supporter for a quid)

PLEASE weird as it may seem. join the Labour party today.

It will take a while for there it be a leadership election so you would likely then have been a member for long enough.

We need sensible people who want a proper strong opposition to Boris and the Tories to join Labour today and vote for a sensible, viable leader who can win.

It's not expensive to join and you don't have to do anything like go to meetings if you don't want to. Barely anyone does!

Wincher · 13/12/2019 11:43

I wish it could be Stella Creasy, but it's the wrong time for her as she's just had a baby and is on maternity leave. It would be great if she could get a high up shadow cabinet post even in her absence - would send a great message about women's rights while on maternity leave.
