I’m hoping Keir Starmer

Intelligent, center left and no concerns over his connections and political stance

Sensibly stayed in the background recently let’s hope he puts himself forward

I shall be rejoining the party again

Agree not Thornberry she is so condescending

KS is in a very safe seat (well it has been)

Let’s just hope the far left don’t cling on and vote Rebecca Long-Bailey as leader

That doesn't mean I don't like some of the women. But not Thornberry.

AlunWynsKnee · 13/12/2019 00:40

Dippy I think Brexit might be clearer at the next election and 'Brexity' might not be a positive.

MollysMummy2010 · 13/12/2019 00:41

Also kier for me

happycamper11 · 13/12/2019 00:46

Another vote for David, please come back

happycamper11 · 13/12/2019 00:46

Note - wishful thinking not prediction

AlexaShutUp · 13/12/2019 00:52

I'd love to see a female leader. It's well overdue. However, I'm not convinced with regard to Jess Phillips or Emily Thornberry.

I really like Yvette Cooper but I don't think she would go for it again. I really like Keir Starmer but take the point that he might be too "urban educated" for some voters. He is very intelligent though, and it would be good to see someone competent in charge.

InglouriousBasterd · 13/12/2019 00:55

Keir or Jess would be bloody lovely

DippyAvocado · 13/12/2019 00:56

He is very intelligent though, and it would be good to see someone competent in charge.

Sadly, intelligence and competence do not seem to be things that are valued at the moment (see, Boris Johnson). Hopefully the pendulum will swing back in the opposite direction after what will undoubtedly be a completely inept performance as PM.

Milicentbystander72 · 13/12/2019 00:56

Yvette Cooper, Jess Phillips, Keri Starmer or even Hilary Benn.

Any of them.......please.

GCAcademic · 13/12/2019 00:57

I'm afraid I don't have any faith in party members to pick someone palatable to floating voters (of which there are a large number in this country).

HollaHolla · 13/12/2019 00:57

I like Keith Starmer/Yvette Cooper/Jess Phillips. Maybe they could be Green Party style Co-Conveners? 😏

AlexaShutUp · 13/12/2019 01:01

Clearly not. I keep thinking of Michael Gove saying that this country is sick of experts.

DippyAvocado · 13/12/2019 01:02

Keir might have to change his name though if he wants to become leader. On this thread alone, he has already been corrected to Kier/Keri and my personal fave above, Keith Starmer. It just doesn't quite have the same ring to it Grin.

Frizzcat · 13/12/2019 01:03

A carrier bag, a carton of milk or a packet of cheesy wotsits.
All would be better than the current leadership and might even have beat Boris!

On a serious note Keir Starmer, Jess Phillips or Yvette Cooper

Luckyleprechaun80 · 13/12/2019 02:16

Jess Philips is the only one I would vote for, down to earth and would appeal to many voters I’d imagine.
Can’t stand Yvette Cooper!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 13/12/2019 02:25

Keir Starmer? Dan Jarvis?

VanyaHargreeves · 13/12/2019 02:38

I'm really interested in what will happen as the Centrists have been silenced in Shadow Govt for a long time

Tom Watson had credibility but is gone

Is Chris Bryant still an MP and would he get backing in a leadership run?

TiggerOfThigh · 13/12/2019 02:43

Dan Jarvis is the mayor of some Yorkshire thing (as a Yorkshire woman, I have no idea) but I know he’s the MP for Barnsley Central, has a safe seat and is generally a nice man

DippyAvocado · 13/12/2019 02:43

Dan Jarvis had his majority slashed in Barnsley. Down 24 points. Brexit party in second place with 30% of the vote!

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 13/12/2019 03:17

I'm really shocked how many people here want Keir Starmer - he was the director of public prosecutions at CPS and reportedly made the decision not to pursue the many, many criminal complaints from dozens of women against black cab rapist John Warboys which resulted in him almost getting early parole.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jan/05/why-is-john-worboys-being-released-after-less-than-10-years

CharlottesPleb · 13/12/2019 03:23

Not Thornberry please. Boris might be many things, including a clown, but he is obviously not of low intelligence, we need somebody sharp to run rings around him and actually do the job the country expects of the position.

VanyaHargreeves · 13/12/2019 03:26

Well Corbyn has basically just resigned on live TV so a lot of people will be having serious

"Could it be my time?" chats tonight

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/12/2019 03:29

Not Thornberry
Not Abbott
Not Long-Bailey

OrangeSlices998 · 13/12/2019 03:32

Jess Phillips would be incredible. But I doubt the party would vote for her as leader. KS would probably appeal to more centrist voters.
