Who will be the next Labour leader

I’m hoping Keir Starmer

Intelligent, center left and no concerns over his connections and political stance

Sensibly stayed in the background recently let’s hope he puts himself forward

I shall be rejoining the party again

I’m not a fan of Keri Starmer. He always seems a bit too impressed by himself to me.

I like Jess Philips.

Can’t stand Emily Thornbury.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/12/2019 03:42

Nobody I know who votes Labour likes Jess Phillips (they're not Corbynistas either) so I can't see floating voters going for her. It has to be someone with broader appeal.

Yarboosucks · 13/12/2019 04:15

Before the leadership can be resolved, the Momentum issue must be tackled. That is the force that lead to the Corbyn farce.

thr33andme · 13/12/2019 04:19

Keir Starmer or Jess Phillips for me 🙏

ItsNearlyMorning · 13/12/2019 04:19

Corbyn has said he will step down after a leadership election.
The head of momentum straight away says he shouldn't be rushed !
Momentum should be banned from any involvement in party politics.

Yarboosucks · 13/12/2019 04:20

@ItsNearlyMorning - Hear! Hear!

ItsNearlyMorning · 13/12/2019 04:21

I say someone needs to start a petition up to get David Milliband back in UK politics.
In the meantime we need the least controversial leader for the Labour Party but someone with integrity and substance, who supports women's rights.

Witchlight · 13/12/2019 04:24

Yvette Cooper or Hilary Benn.

If a Labour is ever to get in, it must be someone that the moderate centrist would vote for.

ItsNearlyMorning · 13/12/2019 04:29

@Witchlight yes Hillary Ben could be the one

ThereIsTooMuchConfusion · 13/12/2019 04:31

Jess Phillips!!

FagashJackie · 13/12/2019 04:31

I'm not really a labour voter but I do like Yvette Cooper. I think all her cross party talks in regards to brexit she seemed really rational. I think she's OK.

Witchlight · 13/12/2019 05:00

I watch the Parliament Chanel far too much. She is amazingly competent as the chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee. I should add I am not a Labour supporter, but I would vote for her (or Benn) rather than BJ

tttigress · 13/12/2019 05:15

Erm the Tories elected a female leader in the 1970s, maybe 40 years later labour couy do the same?

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 05:16

Jess Phillips for me. She's from a relatively normal background, not too London-y and she had me when she said that left-leaning men are often the most sexist of all.

Reasonable on the whole trans thing too.

I think she actually listens to people too.

Keir Starmer is good too.

Love Diane Abbott but she is massively unpopular.

lovesmarties · 13/12/2019 05:29

Hopefully another hard-Left nut who'll immediately turn off the majority of the small-'c' conservative population and give the Tories an easy ride.

Failing that, an aggressive, hectoring ultra-feminist who'll alienate most male voters. Jess Philips or Angela Rayner would do nicely.

Deffo not a centre-left moderate - someone like Blair who - you know - can win elections.

Carry on, folks, I'll see myself out.

Bloodybridget · 13/12/2019 05:29

Just imagining a reasonable, intelligent, electable Labour leader is cheering me up!

AnnaNimmity · 13/12/2019 05:40

Jess Phillips or Yvette Cooper hopefully.

Not Keir Starmer please.

Singlenotsingle · 13/12/2019 09:48

It has to be someone likeable, charismatic. It shouldn't be important but it is. Thornberry is roundly disliked, as is Diane Abbott.

Boris's strong point is his sense of humour. He said he's going to work on achieving carbon neutral environment, and he'd already achieved a Corbyn neutral one. He's positive and he makes people smile. Come on Labour, you must be able to rustle up someone?

whatnow40 · 13/12/2019 09:52

Andy Burnham is doing a brilliant job in G Manchester as mayor. I'd like to see him become leader and start making a difference at a national level again.

Itstheprinciple · 13/12/2019 09:55

Keir Starmer or Yvette Cooper. I love Jess Phillips and her great attitude but I feel she doesn't yet have the experience behind her.

MojoMoon · 13/12/2019 09:56

I like Kier

But I think it needs to be a northerner.

Needs to be less London orientated (I say this as a Londoner)

vickibee · 13/12/2019 09:58

What about Dan jarvis

fedup21 · 13/12/2019 10:03

I do not want Emily Thornberry just because some people think we ‘have’ to have a woman. I think she’s awful.

Keir Starmer is brilliant. Jess Phillips is also good.

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 13/12/2019 10:05

I’d like to see Yvette Cooper.

Trewser · 13/12/2019 10:06

Yvette Cooper or Dan Jarvis.
