unfollowed Mrs Hinch

raabossi · 09/12/2019 08:28

So i originally followed Mrs Hinch when i saw her on This Morning and i thought i would be a great way of getting cleaning tips.....which originally it was. But now i think it has turned into this one big advertising campaign and what items she has been gifted.
So i have decided to unfollow her and i feel so much better for it.
What are your thoughts?

Daniel Wellington is one I hate the Most! They literally send their horrid watches even to those with not many followers to promote. Every other day I am seeing someone promote tacky Daniel Wellington watch.

Symbollove · 12/12/2019 10:37

@WotchaTalkinBoutWillis she earns far more than just pennies. Her husband no longer works to pay the mortgage and other bills.
Good for her for getting to where she is.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2019 10:44

She says her DH is on a ‘career break’ or something.

fivesecondrule · 12/12/2019 10:48

lol Symbollove we once sat in a restaurant in Covent Garden outside the DW shop watching an instagrammed get photographed by her friend. It was the most cringeworthy 40 minutes of my life (yes it really did take 40 minutes)

Symbollove · 12/12/2019 10:58

@fivesecondrule Lol!! oh my goodness that is cringe!

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2019 11:07

I can see how any normal Mum of a 5 month old would look at Mrs H and her show home spotless house and a baby that never seems to cry, plus a DH that doesn’t work might feel a bit Sad

WonkyDonk87 · 12/12/2019 11:26

Sparkling Yes. Have unfollowed her and SS. Currently on mat leave with 10m DD and couldn't bear watching them show off all the lovely outfits and accessories their boys were gifted. I can't afford any of them (nor can I keep my home as clean or manage nice outfits/makeup every day!). Made me feel awful so I have consciously chosen to unfollow quite a few people for this reason.

astralweaks · 12/12/2019 12:10

Is her husband a professional? The “career break” reference suggests that he is...

thenightsky · 12/12/2019 12:11

I just had to google and see who she was (I keep hearing her name mentioned). She doesn't look like a cleaning woman to me. Hmm

Londongirl86 · 12/12/2019 12:17

It's funny how someone forever buying stuff is so decluttered too isn't it! So weird that people like seeing her b&m spending spree. Even Asda have cottoned on. I went to get some washing up liquid only to read recommended by Mrs Hinch. Since when have we needed Mrs Hinch to recommend fairy. We all know it's the brand that lasts ages! Crown Hmm

duckyolucky · 12/12/2019 12:23

I thought she was a stooge as in someone with a contract with a P&G or similar to promote products whilst pretending not to if that makes sense. Clever marketing idea.
Never followed as don't care about cleaning, although it makes me uncomfortable that she's selling a load of shite to people who likely aren't earning 6 figures.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2019 12:28

This from Hello! magazine-

Sophie's husband is called Jamie and he works as a sales manager. He often appears in her Instagram Stories. They met when they both worked together in sales for a central London job-search company before Sophie left to become a hairdresser.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 12/12/2019 12:36

Her consumerism is off the scale, she needs to get a grip. Where does she physically put it all?

Bluntness100 · 12/12/2019 12:44

Gosh, tall poppy syndrome is alive and well on this thread.

What is it about successful people that makes some others want to rip them down.

Yes, she very successful. Yes she promotes products. So what. Good for her, she's made a lot of money from it. No one has to buy zoflora or dettol if they don't want. No one even has to watch it.

There is always going to be someone, smarter, richer, more successful, more attractive, so what. As said, good for them.

duckyolucky · 12/12/2019 12:45

Nothing wrong with success. Is she clear about ads & affiliate links?

astralweaks · 12/12/2019 13:15

She appears to promote a strange, various shades of gunmetal style of decor and there appears to be very little in the way of personality in her abode. (It actually wouldn’t surprise me if she didn’t live there at all; it is pretty much a sort of studio set as it is.)

If she gets such an array of chemical products sent to her, what happens to them? They certainly would not be allowed to live “on set”. The whole thing is fake. No way should anyone ever aspire to living like that. For the sake of the planet, if nothing else.

Bluntness100 · 12/12/2019 13:52

Is she clear about ads & affiliate links?

Yes, very much so

ClementineIvy · 12/12/2019 14:22

It's not unreasonable to unfollow anyone if you don't enjoy their content. Though I agree with the poster who said that this thread (and others elsewhere on the internet) is alive with tall poppy syndrome. Mrs Hinch has done very well for herself; instagram is her job, and unlike many other SM influencers, she is very upfront about her ads and affiliate links. You can't please all of the people all of the time and if she's not your cup of tea just unfollow. No need to announce your departure.

KatoPotato · 12/12/2019 14:34

There used to a be a mum blogger/insta star in our village. Her #ads became comical. Trying to Pose and pout in matching knitwear holding frozen peas from one stop shop.

wetpants · 12/12/2019 15:25

misspepper: Not out to defend her here, but this is wrong, she made some grey loungewear and a book I think for a charity and all proceeds went to said charity.

So many people have fallen for this. According to her all the profits will be donated to the charity but tbh it's all smoke and mirrors too. Profit is what you are left with after the stock cost and everyone else has been paid, all you know there was 5p donated per loungewear set. But you can make it sound very lofty when you say all the profit will be donated. It still means fuck all.

I find it depressing that so many women find her inspirational. Being a slave to housekeeping and doing hauls from tat shops. It is abhorrent in the current climate crisis to push so much toxic waste and rampant consumerism. I am honestly baffled that shit like this is "inspirational". I am not jealous one bit, just embarrassed for her. I am purposefully not buying any minky cleaning pads and zoflora. Will need to examine what else is produced by P&G to avoid it further.

If I remember right, Kim and Aggie never pushed branded products, did they? They were often suggesting using vinegar, bicarb and other eco friendly methods.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 12/12/2019 15:42

Anyone finding her inspirational is lacking in fucking grey matter.

Equanimitas · 12/12/2019 15:54

And a life, *HowIsMovingBungalow".

Menora · 12/12/2019 17:52

I don’t think you have to be necessarily jealous and spiteful to change your opinion on someone either, when they have changed - and its ok to talk about it too.
A lot of people followed previously including myself and I really enjoyed watching her. I now no longer enjoy it at all, due to how significant the content change is, so I stopped and just added my reasons to this thread

duckyolucky · 12/12/2019 18:06

Is she clear about ads & affiliate links?

Yes, very much so

Then she's doing something right.

I think a lot of people in general have an issue with following someone, thinking there a mate, buy what they are selling but then end up feeling cheated cause the product is shite or that the influencer is no longer relatable. I've left instagram yrs ago, used to love it but facebook has ruined with their need to make money.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 12/12/2019 18:09

She was investigated over her ad's and given 'advice' over 2 incidents from ASA - so no she hasn't been crystal clear in the past.
