unfollowed Mrs Hinch

raabossi · 09/12/2019 08:28

So i originally followed Mrs Hinch when i saw her on This Morning and i thought i would be a great way of getting cleaning tips.....which originally it was. But now i think it has turned into this one big advertising campaign and what items she has been gifted.
So i have decided to unfollow her and i feel so much better for it.
What are your thoughts?

Popular Istagram accoutns have such a short shelf life, beacuse thet tend to go like this:

Person is passionate about something

Person starts Instagram account to give tips (midwifery, cleaning etc)

Person becomes popular

Person thinks: great, I can give up my day job and earn money from my Instagram

Person starts to spam followers with photos of weird shit they've been 'gifted' or of their perfect life

Followers leave in droves because no one, literally no one, is bothered about seeing gifts some random person has been sent

Person goes back to the day job.

The only exception I can think to this is the Unmumsy Mum, who I follow because I'm renovating a house. But I might unfollow, as her House Project account has started to have a few gifted posts (always of shit things!)

Giftbagapocalypse · 09/12/2019 09:35

I think that if you don't want to use Instagram in that way that is your choice.

I really like Mrs Hinch and still follow her, as I find her posts inspiring and some of them have made a positive difference to my life. I have anxiety too and it was nice to hear from someone who shares my perspective on that.

I'm well aware that her posts contain adverts - as far as I'm concerned that is how she earns her living and I have no problem with that. Lots of things I watch and follow have a similar business model - most of the television, films, YouTubers I like and so on. I don't have a problem with that and I see it as the price of getting the content I want.

AlexanderHalexander · 09/12/2019 09:36

... anyone else waiting for:

Aliceinwanderlust: Oh I totally agree. Apart from Mother of Daughters, she's doing some amazing new content and seems like a wonderful, kind and generous person

Grin

I suppose logically it is always going to go that way though for any influencer. Advertisers have to find new ways to target us as so many of just fast forward through TV ads.

YANBU for unfollowing Mrs Hinch for whatever reason you want.

nocluewhattodoo · 09/12/2019 09:38

Mrs Hinch becoming such a huge deal was all down to very careful planning through a 'talent' agency and paid for articles in the media. Her ditsy personality to make her seem relatable is all an act. She set out to live a life being paid to promote noxious chemicals and assorted tat to a demographic that views her as aspirational, often working class mothers. Promoting cleaning as some sort of hobby to women who often don't have that much time to themselves is so ridiculous.

Elbeagle · 09/12/2019 09:39

Of course YANBU to unfollow someone on social media who you don’t want to follow on social media... not sure why you think you would be unreasonable? Confused

YouSawThePlans · 09/12/2019 09:40

My thoughts are that unfollowing someone doesn't need an AIBU. And if you want to bitch about Mrs Hinch then you'd be better off on Tattle or back there

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/12/2019 09:41

Her house strikes me as beautiful but not a home. It's too perfect. I like a house that has a soul.
I stopped following her as she made me think my perfectly lovely, mostly tidy home was a shit heap.

She has done well for herself and for that I admire her.

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2019 09:41

TBF nothing needs an AIBU. It’s not ‘bitching’ to state a few facts either.

Smelborp · 09/12/2019 09:41

There are other things to follow on Instagram. I follow Gardening pages and there’s very little product placement there.

MutedUser · 09/12/2019 09:42

Everything she does is now planned out by management to make as much money as possible I think. Unfollowed her months ago.

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2019 09:43

I can see how she could make people feel a bit inferior.

elderlee · 09/12/2019 09:44

I also unfollowed for the same reason and also because of the mass-consumerism and her seeming lack of care about the implications her behaviour has on the planet etc. - she never really mentioned it

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2019 09:45

Strange Planet is a good one to follow-a cartoon strip about aliens living on earth. V funny.

Stoople · 09/12/2019 09:46

YANBU, not just Mrs H but 'influencers' in general get sent an obscene about of stuff that they could easily afford with the revnue from ads etc, it's sickening. I know it's business and it's a good way for companies to reach people, but honestly, eurgh. The trouble is a lot of them start off passionate about something, build a following of people who are interested, and then they become so unrelatable they're boring and out of touch; they then lose followers and wonder why. All of those chemicals around a baby and a dog as well, no thanks- and then preaching about the environment, sure.

Fucck · 09/12/2019 09:47

Love strange planet, sparkling! I agree, it's a good one to follow. It's my daily smile.

littleduckeggblue · 09/12/2019 09:51

Stacy Soloman is heading the same way I think. When they say "loss of people have asked where I got blah blah from so here's the link" #ad
So annoying

SlothMama · 09/12/2019 09:52

YANBU Her content is so boring now, it's full of sponsored stuff or tatt she's bought off Ebay.

DuckWillow · 09/12/2019 09:52

I LOVE Tattle for a laugh.

Mrs Hinch is a big name now, it's fair enough that people say "actually it's all about advertising and I've gone off it."

Less good that they bitch about her home but she's an adult and I'm sure she can accept her taste differs to others. It's all too grey for me but it is lovely.

Kitkatcuppa · 09/12/2019 09:52

Funnily enough I did the same. Also with father and mother of daughter's. It's like they are no longer true to themselves. I almost I followed Susie j verril for the same thing. Adverts for makeup brushes and stuff we can't afford. I get abit sick of the well of people showing us things we can't afford. They are already privileged.

As for Mrs Hinch she seems so nice but alot of what she does is bad when she has millions copying her. The amount of zoflora and bleach and sponges wannabe hinchers are tagging her in is crazy. People wasting stupid amounts of money to be like her. A women on my Instagram I live near has opened up her own wannabe hinch page and keeps doing those boomerang videos of her squirting cleaning stuff on her draining board. I just think are we really this excited about cream cleaner. We were all cleaning before Mrs hinch made the price of everything go up lol. Seriously aswel how many people really have an immaculate house all in grey with no crumbs marks or mess. Is that child going to be allowed to make an actual mess. Is he going to have zoflora sprayed allover his home. If only people realised how harmful these chemicals are too our lungs. I've actually moved to method cleaning products as I realised Mr muscle bathroom cleaner was hurting my chest and making me cough. Bleach fumes make my throat irritated. I have to open the back door to air the kitchen out when I clean. Overall I don't have a a problem with her but it's over consuming and bad for people's health.

I've never understood this buying something because a famous person owns it. Buy what you like.

She gets so many freebies now as you say and then less well off people go buy it because she pretends she believes in the brand.

Father of daughter's is exactly the same. I unclicked him after the person advert. Imagine figuring out how to wash your kids clothes without his advice on a stain remover he's been given to pretend to love. Cringe!!!

Kitkatcuppa · 09/12/2019 09:54

Persil advert

hifolks · 09/12/2019 09:59

Isn't there something slightly sad about intelligent women getting excited about vile smelling chemical cleaners/
Clean up, open your windows. There you go.

Thesearmsofmine · 09/12/2019 10:00

YANBU I had a big cull of people on Instagram a while back. All those accounts which are sent free shit daily and go on several free holidays a year. Very nice for them but it doesn’t make me want to go and buy those things(quite the opposite) and I don’t like the way children get used so much.

Trafalger · 09/12/2019 10:01

I don't understand anyone following any of these "influencers". They don't influence me to buy a product they turn me off the product! Same with these unboxing videos! I just don't get how people can get excited about this shit.

People have been cleaning for millennia! We don't need a random to tell us how to do it and how to make our house a mass of chemicals from all the products.

19lottie82 · 09/12/2019 10:01

I can’t understand why anyone would want a house that......... grey??!
