DH ordered me a surprise present from John Lewis.
It was just delivered - wrapped in thin plastic, visible for the whole world to see. No box. WHY??????
Surprise ruined!!

What does Grinches mean?

RedLipstickHighHeels · 07/12/2019 19:53

Packaging Depends on the item
I had a scarf & hat delivered by JL came in clear branded bag.not all items require a box
It’s not the retailer’s responsibility to ensure your item is concealed

CallmeAngelina · 07/12/2019 19:53

It's December, for goodness' sake. The vast majority of parcels delivered at the moment will be Christmas presents for someone in the household.
You shouldn't need to tick a "gift packaging" box, which I would presume is for something to be gift-wrapped, which was not necessary.
I don't think I've ever received a parcel with translucent polythene packaging.

Which will explain why OP is ranting on here rather than her DH speaking to JL about it.
He is in the process of emailing them.

I think you are being really childish - you are adult, I assume?

RedLipstickHighHeels · 07/12/2019 19:55

Grinches = miserable ill spirited.suck the joy out of events
Bit of an outburst and Huge over reaction from op

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/12/2019 19:56

What does Grinches mean?

Posters who disagree with OP, in this case.

Aridane · 07/12/2019 19:57

It normally states on the website an item won't be delivered boxed

I have never seen this in hundreds of online orders placed!

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/12/2019 19:58

Not in my household, no. Not a single present is expected to be delivered this month.

RedLipstickHighHeels · 07/12/2019 19:58

If you want gift wrapped yes you need to request it,it’s no routinely offered
And not all purchases in dec are gifts or surprises. I shop for myself.im unsurprised
it’s wholly unnecessary to raise a complaint and bend someone ear about an inconsequential event

Aridane · 07/12/2019 19:58

I think you are being really rude - you are a keyboard warrior, I assume*: Hmm

voddiekeepsmesane · 07/12/2019 19:58

I'm with you OP at this time of the year especially. And those who are saying that you are too old for surprises I really feel sorry for you if your lives are devoid of anyone wanting to surprise you with a gift jeez bah humbug the lot of you! Other companies manage to package without giving the game away so JL should be able to IMO

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 07/12/2019 19:59

Hahahaha.
OP be happy. You have a husband who clearly loves you enough to source order something from JL that he knew would mean a lot to you.
I think you need to put this into perspective and grow up a bit.

GoKartMozart · 07/12/2019 19:59

Amazon do that.

ScrambledEggForBrains · 07/12/2019 20:00

@CallmeAngelina ,honey all’s not lost, he can get you another surprise. Bonus 😉

RJnomore1 · 07/12/2019 20:00

Since when was clear plastic more environmentally friendly than a cardboard box?

Op yanbu. There are some very joyless people on this website. Can only presume they’re here tonight being mean cos they weren’t invited to the Xmas night out 😝

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 07/12/2019 20:02

This is really unusual, i order a lot from JL and its never come without an opaque bag or a box. I'm willing to bet the delivery company damaged the outer packaging and discarded it.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 07/12/2019 20:02

I should also say, last month, before alexa stopped announcing what was being delivered, she let slip in her very loud voice one of ds presents.
I blamed myself for not being stealthy enough.
Meh, he'll still be well chuffed christmas morning.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 07/12/2019 20:02

I literally cannot imagine anything ordered online arriving in transparent packaging. It has never happened to me so perhaps that's why I have problems picturing it. I don't suppose you took a photo?

Cohle · 07/12/2019 20:02

Why ask AIBU if you think everyone who disagrees with you are "miserable Grinches" Hmm

As this thread indicates there's a great deal your DH to could have done to avoid this situation. Although if you think ordering something from John Lewis is "sourcing it" then I suppose you would view that as practically insurmountable.

AdobeWanKenobi · 07/12/2019 20:03

Saturday night is peak time to pile on the OP. Meanwhile many people would be a little disappointed to have a surprise ruined and that doesn't make them childish.

MinervaSaidThat · 07/12/2019 20:03

I went to great lengths to source something

I one-clicked a FitBit earlier for my DH, I will be sure to tell him I sourced it 😂

RedLipstickHighHeels · 07/12/2019 20:04

I ordered a scarf from JL last week it arrived in a clear bag. It’s not outwits bounds of reality

OneBeeTwoBee · 07/12/2019 20:04

Not in my household, no. Not a single present is expected to be delivered this month

Well good for you, but GENERALLY this time of year it's pretty safe to assume it's a gift and not use see through bags. See?

Dislocatedeyeballs · 07/12/2019 20:05

I completely understand and agree and think some of the posters are indeed miserable grinches who can't understand why u would be annoyed I would expect any company to send stuff in packaging that you cannot see what it is especially this time of year and I think u shod contact them and bloody well tell them so. I would also either hide it outside and pretend you haven't seen it or put it in something and pretend you haven't seen it or leave it by the letterbox and pretend you haven't seen it. Just pretend you know nothing and act all surprised and touched on the day also thank your lucky stars you have such a nice thoughtful husband and that's all that really matters
