to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

OMG OP I love Perth, I met DH there. You will have a fab time.

Laughing at the fact it's your first long haul and you are going straight for London-Perth (no building up by going to America or anything) Grin

No as others have said don't do onesie on the plane, the arms will end up dangling in the wet floor of the toilet, sounds grim.

Enjoy Perth.

I got the app but my points haven't appeared

You don't get the points added to your account until after you've flown.

YANBU but I agree with the loo issue of it ending up touching grim loo floor or toilet itself as there’s so little room to manoeuvre. If you got warm fleece lined joggers and a sweatshirt hoodie could you not use them for lounging around in at home? Uniqlo have some good ones and I know what you mean about leggings but uniqlo also have heat tech leggings which might solve the problem of normal leggings being chilly.

Toilets make it a no no for me. 5th vote for Primark cosy leggings they're brill. Large soft scarf and something with a hood. My favourite thing for long haul (or any flight really) is noise cancelling headphones. Got me to Japan and back.

kateandme · 04/12/2019 21:30

screw everyone else.they wont be comfortable will they if they dont change to suit their own needs.go for it.if anyone looks at you just think "yeh but im comfortable, and i feel safe enough now so who gives a shit"

katewhinesalot · 04/12/2019 21:31

Another vote for snuggly blanket or scarf rather than a onesie.

Did this thread raise issues that you'd not even thought of OP?

I could pee on it by accident, that would be awful

But not as awful as getting someone elses' pee on it (yes I did mean to put the apostrophe there!).

Perpetual fear of the female scuba diver is what the sleeves of your drysuit touch when you go to the toilet on a boat. We're almost always outnumbered by men and, like aeroplanes, there's no such thing as a single sex toilet on a boat, and it usually makes the average aeroplane toilet cubicle look enormous.

kateandme · 04/12/2019 21:32

though op you can get some bloody soft what is now called loungewear.especially this time of year, its going bananas how much of it they sell at christmas.and it can be gorgeously soft.
from aldi to m&s all prices.id have a look at them.they can make you feel lovely

Blacmange · 04/12/2019 21:35

Some of uniqlos warm joggers and leggings to consider.

Oooh Outsomnia you mean "bollocks" right?

When you say

*If OP or someone has to ask this question I often wonder why?

BLX. sorry, We all know what we are comfortable with/in. End of*

Well excuse me for starting a light-hearted discussion which is ,yes, also an excuse for me to talk about how excited I am about quitting my job and going a long way away for the first time ever after having been homebound for years by DMs illness 🤷 I didn't realize MN was only a place for serious stuff now. 😋

It did! I've only flown 4 hours before Xmas Smile

Sorry - didn't mean to repeat insomnia.

Just wanted to reassure that whatever you're comfortable in - so long as it's not indecent - is fine!

The thought of a onesie in airplane toilets makes me feel ill! Don't do it.

mbosnz · 04/12/2019 21:40

As a bit of a longhaul vet', who feels the cold, I wear black yoga pants, the gathered kind, with a merino top, and take a pashmina to snuggle under. And get on board and take my bra off.

Aaah thanks! Am Qantas novice Xmas Smile

Uniqlo Heat Tech stuff is really good. You could get some leggings in extra warm, a pair of those lounge pants to wear over the top, and a heat tech top to wear under a hoodie or loose t-shirt. I defy you to feel the chill in that little lot OP. Smile

And your sleeves would stay on your arms and away from the pissy floor.

BendyLikeBeckham · 04/12/2019 21:40

Yabu for saying singlet Grin

What the hell is that anyway?

Namestranger · 04/12/2019 21:41

And get on board and take my bra off

Omg really?? Idk if it's because I have absolutely no boobs but I get even colder without a bra on Grin

Wear whatever you'll be comfy in. I saw someone on a long haul flight a few weeks ago wearing a very stylish all in one. It was made of soft jersey material but was wide leg so didn't look like a babygrow.

Hopingtobeamum · 04/12/2019 21:41

I fly long haul a lot, I always pack a pair of loose pj pants, spare underwear, loose top, jumper, scarf and toiletries bag. Also bring my own pillow as I like it.
Definitely makes a 20 hour journey more comfortable

Namestranger · 04/12/2019 21:42

What the hell is that anyway?

Like a strappy top thing?? Idk Tyra Banks always said it on ANTM Xmas Grin

Multicoloured and spotty is what will make it look very chavvy.

Judgy much? Are you so shallow you form an opinion about someone depending what pattern is on the clothing you wear?

OP, If you are comfortable then wear it. I wouldn’t think twice about seeing a person in a spotty onesie on a long haul flight.
