to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

Absolutely don't worry about this. Just get on, drop your stuff on the seat and then change into your onesie. Good luck with this being your first long-haul!

I usually fly business long-haul these days but I always have a pair of PJs with me for a night flight and I just get changed and go to sleep. It's the most sensible option to be comfortable.

Twattage13 · 04/12/2019 20:44

I do mean get changed in the toilet not at the seat!

Soontobe60 · 04/12/2019 20:45

The thing with planes is the heating is crazy wild! It can go from icy cold to hot and sticky, so layers are your best friend. A onesie would be very tricky! The toilet situation alone would be very hard to manage. A confined space, wet floor, weird shapes loo. No!
When I fly long haul, once the seat belt sign goes off, I nip to the loo, put on some comfy pants like tracksuit bottoms or yoga pants, a long vest and a hoody. I also have warm socks to walk about in and trainers n a bigger size than usual for foot expansion. Finally, I have a lovely big scarf that acts as a blanket when I'm trying to sleep.
I have face wipes to remove make up, and a little pot of moisturiser. About an hour before I land, I get changed back into regular clothes, have a wash, clean my teeth and chuck a bit of make up on.

Hmmm sounds like slight win for "go for onesie" Grin I'll cram it into my hand luggage. Any other tips for long haul? Am downloading some films onto my laptop to watch, and am getting lots of podcast (variety) on my phone. Am taking two books and a notepad, along with super neck pillow and eye mask. Can I use my Bluetooth headphones does anyone know? Googling was a bit mixed on that...

Definitely a bad idea in tiny aeroplane toilets.

They'll definitely have blankets for you.

I find travelling with something like a pashmina is always a good idea for long haul flights. Comfy trousers, long-sleeved t-shirt or similar, cardigan or zipped fleece and pashmina. Not particularly stylish, but comfortable and allows you to adjust the amount of clothing you're wearing for the temperature at the time. It can fluctuate a lot.

H&M will sell you a comfy pair of tracks bottoms for very little cash. I wouldn’t give a toss about what people thought of me if I wore a onesie but the toilets would be a nightmare.

BennyTheBall · 04/12/2019 20:47

Multicoloured and spotty is what will make it look very chavvy. Plus the loo situation - yuck x100.

Could you buy a less conspicuous one?

Like someone upthread - I have the Hush amie joggers. They are so comfy for long haul (although I am quite happy in jeans too)

SecretWitch · 04/12/2019 20:47

How about a cheap pair of leggings with a long T-shirt?

Namestranger · 04/12/2019 20:49

I just get so cold in leggings and my yoga pants are really thin. Sounds a bit wet but I can't really afford to buy anything else at this stage... we're camping as it is Crown Grin

The toilets are so small, a onesie isn't very practical! Thermal leggings are my suggestion

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 04/12/2019 20:51

You were going to were it anyway weren't youWink

SecretWitch · 04/12/2019 20:51

I’m just thinking of how you would manage the loo in a onesie.

Ultimately, wear what is comfortable for you. Long flights like these are too exhausting to be uncomfortable

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 04/12/2019 20:51

*wear

Namestranger · 04/12/2019 20:51

Okay so mixed bag...I think I'll wear thickest leggings, slippersock things, long sleeve T, hoodie, coat and giant scarf...and put onesie in hand luggage for if more comfort/warmth is needed. Any more long haul tips please? Everyone online says to bring own water bottle.

I agree toilets would be a nightmare.

Having been on many long haul flights the toilet floors can become awash after hours.

Barsh · 04/12/2019 20:54

Wear a really long vest tucked into your knickers to stop draughts. But we Nessie, yuck in the loos. See if anyone has a blanket you can borrow, and wear 2 pairs of leggings. It can get really hot.

Sexnotgender · 04/12/2019 20:55

I’d definitely not wear a onesie, they are so impractical and plane toilets are grim, imagine dragging the arm of your onesie in someone else’s piss on the floorSad

GrouchyKiwi · 04/12/2019 20:55

Yoga pants with tights or leggings underneath?

GrouchyKiwi · 04/12/2019 20:57

Who are you flying with? Most airlines will give you as much water as you ask for and they walk around with jugs of water throughout the flight.

I always make sure I have lip balm and hand cream in my carry on, and a change of underwear and socks (or two). Even changing into a clean top makes you feel a lot more human.

Back2Bali · 04/12/2019 21:00

Wear it.... change into it just after boarding...comfort is key on any flight Especially long haul!! Loose fitting and comfy, the blankets on planes are rubbish and not washed after each use.... (my sister is an air stewardess for a very popular long haul airline) unless the blanket is clearly dirty with food/drink they just pick them up shake them off and re package them 🤢🤢🤢

I fly a lot I dont like flying.. and I usually change into a pair of tracksuit bottoms and hoody top then get my self off to sleep or at least wear ear plugs and eye mask to relax then change back into nice clothes before landing..

ohprettybaby · 04/12/2019 21:01

Yes YABU. Will you look insane? Probably. Grin
Joggers and a hoodie?

TacoFlavouredKisses · 04/12/2019 21:01

Another no here just for the loo situation! I've got a really nice pair of brushed lining joggers from Primark that were about £8 and are perfect for travelling - super soft and cosy.

ReturnOfTheMackerel · 04/12/2019 21:04

Primark do some XXX cosy leggings that are fleecey on the inside. So warm and cosy

Clymene · 04/12/2019 21:04

Just buy some cheap jogging bottoms. If you're a cold person, they're good for wearing anyway. It's not just you peeing on them, it's the state of the toilet floor on a long haul flight , particularly one which has xperienced turbulence 🤢
